8th October - Jayne Plume ran the London Parks half Marathon at Hyde Park raising money for MacMillon in aid of Jenny Hawes and her Dad. I am pleased to say that she survived the race and thank you to generous donations from Buntingford Bowls Club Members past and present, members from other Clubs, and friends & family, Jayne has raised a whopping £922 so far. Barclays Bank are matching this amount under their 'Pound for Pound' scheme which means £1844 has been raised to date in Jenny's honour. I am sure Jenny would have been very proud of this achievement.
It was an emotional day and Jayne would like to thank you all as she has been overwhelmed by your support. A couple of photo's below showing the photograph Jayne had put on her running top - and proof that she lived to tell the tale!
It is not too late to donate and the below link will take you to her Just Giving Page. Thank you all once again.

4th October - It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the sad passing of Jenny Hawes after a long battle with illness.
Jenny was our Club President this year and also became the first ever Buntingford Bowls Club Member to take on the role EHDWBA President. Although Jenny was unable to take full office and fulfil many of her duties, Jenny did whatever she could to support both Club and the Association.
During her 20 years as a Buntingford Bowls Club member, Jenny also served as Ladies Captain, Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for our club Buntingford.
On the field of play Jenny is a Club ‘Grand Slammer’ after winning all four major club competitions, and is currently ranked high in the clubs history for the total number of Competitions won.
Over the last 15 years Jenny formed a unique friendship with Eddie Plume and they did everything together. They travelled, they ate, they wined, they went to shows - and they ate and wined some more….. and of course they became the very best of friends.
Thoughts are with Eddie, friends and Family.
30th September - The season drew to a close with the Annual Captain versus Captain match. It didn't rain which was a bonus and great fun was had by all that attended. The members even survived the Bunty boys being in the kitchen led by John & Zoe Powell serving an excellent meal. A couple of photo's below show that 2 of our members really did get into the spirit of the day which was great to see:

'Super Sunday' for Buntingford
on EHBA Finals Day
3rd September -
EHBA Two Wood Pairs Champions:
A great start to the day with Ross Murphy & Scott Wake coming from behind to win the match 20-15.
EHBA Thurgood Cup Champions:
The Thurgood Cup Final against Bishop's Stortford was a close affair with the team going behind at the half way stage, and with 9 ends to go across the two rinks the Bunty Boys were 9 shots down. But what a turn around as the team ran out winners by 7 shots. The Rink of Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender went down 21-27, and the rink of Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick & Mark Plume won 27-17.
EHBA Officers Singles Champion:
It was then the turn of Bryan Davies to take to the stage and after a tight battle he came through to win 21-17.
EHBA Singles Runner Up:
Garry Warrender was involved in another tight battle but unfortunately his opponent just got the better of him in a close game.
EHBA Fours Champions:
Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake took to the green on a very tricky rink that was full of divots. The lads were always in front and finished up winning 21-13.
EHBA Champion of Champions Runner Up:
The late session saw Scott Wake take to the green and this was a nail-biting game that went down to the wire. Scott led early but was eventually pegged back to 20-20. Unfortunately the last end didn't go Scott's way.
EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy Champions:
This was the last match up for Buntingford and after a close game early on, Buntingford ran out winners by 10 shots. Peter Warren, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume won 20-16, and Bryan Davies, Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick won 21-15.
Buntingford have now won the 'EHBA Club Double' for the second year in succession (Winning both the Thurgood Cup & Lyndhurst Trophy in the same season). Well done to all of the players.
A big thank you to those Buntingford supporters that came and supported the players at various stages throughout the day. It got a bit chilly towards the end and that's when some started to drift away, but your support is very much appreciated. Thank you.
And we still have another EHBA Final to be played. The EHBA Triples Final will be played on Sunday 10th September at 4pm at Buntingford Bowls Club and willl be: Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender versus Roger Evans, Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick.
3rd September - The Final EHBL Tables have been published and we have confirmation that the Buntingford Bears are the EHBL Division Three Champions and win the 'Buntingford Cup' The Buntingford Bulls didn't do too badly either and came a very creditable 4th. Well done to all of the players that represented Buntingford throughout the season in both Teams. The top half of the table is published below:
|8||MUCH HADHAM HAWKS||13||4||0||9||411||475||-64||30|
3rd September - The Annual 'Beale Cup' took place at Buntingford and this pits the Buntingford Bears up against the Buntingford Bulls for bragging rights and to decide who really is the best EHBL team...... Four games of Triples were played that went down to the wire with shot difference coming into play. The match finished 2 games all - and the winners by 4 shots winning the match 66-62 was ............ The 'Buntingford Bulls'. This puts the series at 1 match all after the Buntingford Bears were winners last year. And a special mention to Simon Anstey who is said to have had the game of his life. The chants of "There is only 1 Simon Anstey" can still be heard in the distance....
The Annual 'Buntingford Ladies County League North Team versus the 'Buntingford Ladies County League South Team' also took place and this one wasn't as close as the mens game as there was a 'stonking' win for the Buntingford Ladies North Team. Well done.
Good fun was had by all during thhe afternoon and a big thank you to Roxana Clifton, Ellen Amos, Gwen Beale & Rosemary Webber for providing an excellent meal after the game.
3rd September -
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BUNTY BOYS!
Buntingford's Men were crowned HB East Area League Cup Champions for a record 8th time after victory against Rosedale at Sawbridgeworth Bowls Club. The rink of Peter Warren, Ross Murphy, Vic Greenberg and Garry Warrender won 24-12, and the rink of Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell and Mark Plume won 19-15. 5th August - Buntingford's Ladies played their re-arranged EHDWBA Challenge match against Hertford Castle but unfortunately couldn't muster a win this time. The original fixture was postponed due to the threat of rain as the Hertford Castle Ladies didn't want to play - so therefore I award our Buntingford Ladies victory in the first game by virtue of walkover, and this game then made it an honourable draw! A few new Bunty Lady members took to the green in this match and the experience gained will be invaluable for the future. Well done.
5th August - So let's recap on the excellent East Herts B.A. performances so far this season, as Buntingford's Men have representatives in all of the competitons listed below at the Semi Final Stage:

They will now face Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake after they came through a tough encounter 21-18. The Semi Final will take place on Tuesday 8th August at a Neutral venue - however I suspect it will be at Buntingford.

Mark Plume, Eddie Plume, Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Roger Evans.
29th July - Buntingford hosted the HB County Top Team Semi Finals and thank you to those club members that made the day possible. Feedback as always from those playing has again been positive and that is a great testament to the 'usual few' that always put in the hard work. Thank you.
27th July - Buntingford's Men secured all 6 points in their County League game at Ware, winning on both rinks and by 45-33. The rink of Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, John Powell & Mark Plume won 25-15, and the rink of Bryan Davies, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake won 20-18 with the win coming from the very last bowl. Well done lads.
Latest League Table:
So - I make it that with 1 game to play, 3 points in our final game at home to Bishop's Stortford will see us get to 14 points and that will be enough to take us through to the East Area Cup Final. (2 points - one winning rink is likely to be enough)
27th July - The Club History page has been updated with further information.

25th July - The invincibles keep on winning......... It's now 11 out of 11 for the Buntingford Bears in the East Herts Bowls League Division three. The 'Dream Team' of Stan Keen, Len Purdy & Mick Marks were beaten for the very first time this season going down by just 4 shots - but it's a team game and the Triple of Mick Cheeseman, George Swaby & Ross Murphy came from behind to win by 12 shots and ensure the team maintained their 100% record. Welll done lads - Excellent stuff! Just 4 games to go..........
24th July - Peter Warren & Vic Greenberg pick up a 3 on the last end to win by 1 shot in their EHBA Quarter Final Pairs match. Well done lads
21st July - Buntingford Club President Jenny Hawes (on her Birthday) held a successful Presidents day despite the inclement weather as the day featured members from the past and the present. Lots of money was raised for the Presidents chosen Charity, MacMillan Cancer Research. (an exact total raised will be published at a later date). It was especially nice to see some of our newer members taking part in the occasion - Carol Cain, Paul Besser and John Weaver. And also a big thank you to Roxana Clifton, Gwen Beale and Jill & Graham Waite for their sterling efforts in the kitchen, and to all of those who maintain the green. The Club looked magnificent.
21st July - Middleton Cup Quarter Final Report: Hertfordshire v Bedfordshire.
48 Players, 126 Ends played, 2016 Bowls delivered - and the match came down to just 1 shot with Bedfordshire taking the overall win. A fantastic advert for Bowls with an unbelieveable atmosphere, and around 100 supporters cheering the team on in a very entertaining game. Hertfordshire led the match early on after 5 ends across the board. At 10 ends it was Bedfordshire's turn to go in front. 15 ends and it was very close - but then it slipped away from Herts with Bedfordshire taking a 17 shot lead with less than 20 ends to be played across the 6 rinks. Herts pegged them back and with just 5 ends to be played Herts led by 2 shots, but then went behind by 4 shots with just 1 end to be played. Herts picked up a 3 but it wasn't enough and Hertfordshire's run came to an end. The rink of Phil Russell (W&D), Carl Frostick, Alan Hutchison (Bishop's Stortford) and Mark Plume had an excellent game and won their rink by 2 shots to finish the Middleton Cup series with 4 wins out of 5 matches played. Well done lads. Thank you to our regular supporters who travelled up to Aylesbury Town Bowls Club to support the Buntingford Lads - Eddie Plume, Greg & Ellen Amos. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
21st July - The biggest Middleton Cup game for 20 years takes place today at Aylesbury Town Bowls Club as Hertfordshire face Bedfordshire in the Middleton Cup Quarter Finals. Representing Hertfordshire are Buntingford's Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. We wish them well as the winners will qualify for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa on Saturday 5th August. C'mon Herts!
21st July - Two Buntingford Fours have made it through to the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Fours after wins at Buntingford against Bishop's Srortford and Ware. Both Fours were behind early on but came through in the end. Well done to Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake; Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender.
20th July - Mark Plume's attempt to qualify for the Bowls England National Championships ended in defeat at the HB County Singles Semi Final Stage at Hatfield Bowls Club - mainly because he played absolute rubbish!
Thank you to the usual suspects from the Buntingford club that always come to support at these high profile games - Eddie Plume, Tony Keeling, Peter Warren, Garry Warrender, Scott Wake, Vic Greenberg and Greg Amos.
The great news for Mark Plume was that earlier in the week he received an email from the Hertfordshire County Team Manager saying they had put him forward to be considered for an England International trial in the 2018 British Isles series. Mark will know in a few weeks if he has been chosen for the England trial squad which will take place in September this year.
This is recognition for Mark's performances over the last 3 years and great news for Buntingford Bowls Club. We wish him well.
(Let's just hope they don't just go by his performance in the County Singles Semi Final as to whether he is successful in securing a trial or not!)
20th July - With so many great performances and thumping wins by the Club this year, the 'Club Record Wins' page has been updated with some fantastic victories.....
19th July - Oh so close for the Bunty Boys of Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender in their HB County Pairs Semi Final as they went down by just 1 shot. It was a tight contest throughout the match and it came down to the wire on the very last end. Hard luck lads. Thank you to the Bunty supporters that travelled to support the lads at Hatfield Greg Amos, Vic Greenberg, Tony Keeling, Peter Warrren, Mark Plume, Eddie Plume and Scott Wake.
17th July - It's 10 out 0f 10 for the Buntingford Bears in the EHBL Division Three after yet another thumping victory - and a record score this time!
Both triples were 13-0 up early on and totally outbowling their opponents. The final scores were Nigel Bentley, Mike Hatley & Tony Keeling winning by 38-6, and Stan Keen, Len Purdy & Mick Marks winning 23-12. Well done lads.
But let's not write off the Buntingford Bulls aswell, as in the latest League Tables they currently lie in 4th place in their battle for promotion.
17th July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Semi Finals of the Lyndhurst Trophy after another comfortable win against Rosehill. The away triple of Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake won 18-10, and the home triple of Peter Warrren, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume won 28-8. Well done to the Bunty Boys.
15th July - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team has been named for their vital Quarter Final Match against Bedfordshire on Saturday 22nd July. 12th July - Congratulations to Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender for reaching the Semi Finals of the HB County Pairs after a nail-biting quarter final victory 20-18. It was nip and tuck the whole way through the game with the Bunty Boys going in front just after the half way stage. A count of 3 shots towards the end of the game put them in control and they went into the last end 3 shots up. A great last end saw the boys progress. Well done.
Buntingford Bowls hosted all of the Quarter Final matches and put on an excellent show. Thank you to Roxana Clifton, Rosemary Webber and Roger Evans for their support in the kitchen providing an excellent meal for everyone. Thank you also to barman Bryan Davies for his hard work
11th July - Mark Plume is now just 1 game away from qualifying for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa after winning through his County Singles Quarter Final match. The game being played at Garston Bowls Club was played in torrential rain throughout making the green exceptionally heavy. The match lasted 2 and a half hours and 28 ends, and Mark won through 21-16 beating a fellow Middleton Cup Skip. Thank you to Scott Wake and Eddie Plume who braved the awful conditions to come along and support. The Semi Finals will be played at Hatfield Bowls Club on Thursday 20th July and please come along to support.
10th July - It's 9 wins out of 9 games played for the Buntingford Bears as they secured yet another victory in the EHBL Division Three. The rink skipped by Mick Marks won comfortably, and with a winning wood from Tony Keeling with his last bowl to pick up 5 shots (turning a 3 down on the scoreboard to win by 2) secured all 6 points. The Buntingford Bulls currently lie in 4th place in the table. Well done to all so far.
10th July - Well done to Debbie Marks as she has booked her place in the Quarter Finals of the EHDWBA Millennium Singles Cup.
To all members - Please consider attending the Skills Day as detailed below. A lot of time and effort has gone into securing the coaches and this is a great opportunity that will help bowlers across all abilities. Thank you.
Skills Day Monday 31st July - 10.30am to 4.30pm

Just because you think you can bowl, don't think this is not for you.

The Hertfordshire Bowls Coaching Society run a number of these

Last month there were Mens Middleton Cup players, and Ladies John's Trophy players attending one of the events. The feedback was excellent and these players continued to learn from the coaches.
It will cost you £4. which will go towards the mileage for the Coaches,
and a light lunch wil be provided.
The club need a minimum of 24 members to attend to make this event happen. Please think about it and put your name down.........
8th July - The Mens HB County Two Wood Singles competition took place across 4 venues in Hertfordshire today with the winners of each venue progressing to the Semi Finals. Buntingford had members taking part and although they didnt progress through to the latter stages of the competition, Ross Murphy was the best performer after reaching the Area Semi Finals at Datchworth.

A belated and a very warm welcome to our newest members: Jason Edwards, Jim & Kate Farquhar, Terry Geraghty, Martin Owen, Pat Sinnett, and Jan & David Ward. Thank you.
3rd July - Mark Plume has made it through to the HB County Singles Quarter Finals after a 21-16 victory on a tricky rink at Baldock. The quarter finals will be staged at Garston Bowls Club on Tuesday 11th July. Unfortunately Vic Greenberg and Peter Agnew bowed out at the last 16 stage.
30th June - Debbie Marks run in the HB County Unbadged Singles came to an end at the Last 16 stage. By reaching this stage of the competition, Debbie became the first ever Buntingford Ladies member to reach the Last 16 of the HB County Unbadged Singles. Well done Debbie.
30th June - Vic Greenberg's fine run in the National Champion of Champions came to an end at the Hertfordshire Area Semi Final Stage in a very tight game. A great run in the competition and well done Vic.
30th June - A reminder to all of our members to enter the Fixed Jack Competition on Saturday 8th July. This inclues our new members aswell and I would encourage you all to take part. This is a competition for everyone whatever your ability and will give our newcomers a taste of competition bowls. Please don't be afraid to enter though. Go and write your name on the competition entry sheet - what's the worst that can happen.....
30th June - Congratulations to Ross Murphy for being selected for Hertfordshire in the next Eastern Counties League match against Norfolk on Saturday 15th July at Garston Bowls Club. This will be Ross first game at this level and we wish him all the best.
Buntingford have now had 6 players that have been selected to play for Hertfordshire this season and this is a new Club record. Well done to all.
29th June - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after a thumping 43-18 win against Northaw & Cuffley. Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake won the home leg 18-7, and the away team of Peter Agnew, Garry Warrender and Mark Plume won 25-11. Well done team.
27th June - Carl Frostick and Scott Wake continued their fine run in the EHBA Pairs with another thumping victory.
26th June - Buntingford's Men kicked off their County League campaign with a win against Sawbridgeworth scoring 5 points out of a possible 6. Well done to the team of Bryan Davies, Peter Agnew, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Scott Wake, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender, Roger Evans and John Powell.
25th June - After the heroics of yesterday Hertfordshire just fell agonisingly short against the current National Champions Leicestershire in the Last 16 of the Balcomb Trophy (Top 8 players). The match was very close throughout the game with nothing more than a few shots in it for either side. The match swung both ways. The rink skipped by Tom Muir had finished and won by 4 shots, meaning that on the last end the rink skipped by Mark Plume required 3 shots to tie the match and take it into an extra end. Unfortunately they could only manage a single and Hertfordshire went out by just 2 shots. A great effort on a tricky green at Parkway in Peterborough. Thank you once again to our faithful supporters Greg and Ellen Amos. It is much appreciated.
24th June - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team took on the County of Norfolk at County Arts Bowls Club in Norwich knowing that an 18 points to 4 victory (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for the overall score) would see them win their group regardless of how the scores in the other matches finished. Hertfordshire haven't won their group for 20 years but they knew their fate was in their own hands today..... And what a game it was!!!
The Norfolk team contained former World Champion and top ten world ranked player Mervyn King, a number of National Champions and a number of current England International players. Carl Frostick playing at two, and Mark Plume playing at Skip were drawn to Skip against one of those National Champions in John Ottoway and they knew it was going to be a tough match. Mark's rink raced into a 16-3 lead, but overall Hertfordshire were behind on the scoreboard. As it came down to the wire Mark's rink were pegged back, but still recorded a victory by 20-18 and secured Hertfordshire 2 points. With just a few ends of the match to play Norfolk led by 5 shots, then it was Herts time to go in front. There was another winning rink for Herts, a very close match for Garry Warrender's rink but they went down by 6 shots. Another winning rink on the last end for Herts, and then another meaning they had 4 winning rinks and 8 points in the bag - but still needed to win overall on shots to get the 10 points aswell. 1 rink to play, 1 end to play, and Hertfordshire led by 4 shots in the match but were 4 down with just two woods to play. Our Skip drew 3rd bowl, the Norfolk Skip was tight with his last bowl and Hertfordshire had done it - and cue massive celebrations, and I mean massive celebrations! Hertfordshire are now in the National Quarter Finals to be played on Saturday 22nd July with the winners of that game qualifying for the National Championships at Leamington Spa. Our opponents won't be known for a couple of weeks yet as there are still games to be played.
I would like to thank Greg and Ellen Amos for travelling all the way to Norwich to support the team. I hope they enjoyed being part of the occasion.
24th June - I'm expecting a full report from Mick Marks soon - but in the mean time just take a look at this - EHBL Division Three. The Bears are invincible!
|Plyd ||Won ||Drawn ||Lost || For || Aga ||Shot Diff || Points|
21st June - Buntingford's Men cruised through to the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Thurgood Cup with a 45-13 win against Ware. Well done to the team of Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake; Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Mark Plume and Garry Warrender. Thank you to Ellen Amos in the kitchen.
21st June - Great news as both Vic Greenberg and Ross Murphy have won their HB County Unbadged Singles last 16 matches and advance to the Quarter Finals. The Quarter Finals will be played at Harpenden Bowls Club on Wednesday 5th July. We wish them both well.
20th June - Well done to Ross Murphy and Garry Warrender as they advanced to the Last 16 of the HB County Pairs after defeating another Buntingford Pair in Peter Warren and Vic Greenberg. We wish the boys well.
20th June - There is a 'SPAM' email that has been sent from Eddie Plume's Email account to his entire address book quoting 'Bad News' asking for money. It also quotes telephone numbers to ring Eddie on - These are infact fradulent. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone respond. This has been reported. Thank you
19th June - Three Buntingford Men have made it through to the last 16 of the HB County Singles. Wins for Peter Agnew, Mark Plume and Vic Greenberg. Well done lads.
17th June - A great win for Hertfordshire in their Middleton Cup match against Suffolk now puts them in pole position to qualify for the National Quarter Finals. The win was 18 points to 4 (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for the overall score). Representing Buntingford in the winning team were Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. Garry playing three on his rink went down by just 1 shot on the very last end, and Carl playing two with Mark skipping, won by 13 shots that helped Herts to victory. Thanks to Roger Evans and Scott Wake for coming along to support and cheer the lads on.
With 1 game to play against Norfolk next week, a win of 18 points to 4 will guarantee their place in the Quarter Finals. A win of any sorts will also most be likely enough to qualify aswell should other results go their way.
17th June - A great win for Vic Greenberg in the National Champion of Champions. The victory takes Vic through to the Semi Finals of The Hertfordshire Area and just 3 games from qualifying for the National Championships at Leamington.
16th June - Scott Wake bowed out of the National Champion of Champions against the 2016 County Singles Champion after a hard fought game. Hard luck.
The Buntingford Gala Day details and poster have now been published onto the Hertfordsire Bowls Website. Details will also be published onto the home page of this website once they become available.
15th June - The next set of Hertfordshire Friendly games have been published and Roger Evans has been selected for the home game against Middlesex on Tuesday 11th June 2.30pm at Herts Watford Bowls Club. Roger Evans and Carl Frostick have been selected for the friendly game on Wednesday 26th July against Kent at Sawbridgeworth Bowls Club.
13th June - County Singles wins for the Buntingford players has seen 5 Bunty Boys progress to the 4th Round (last 32 in Hertfordshire). Wins for Peter Agnew (21-1), Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg, Mark Plume and Carl Frostick. Vic will now play Carl in the next round.
12th June - The next Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team (Top 24 Players) has been published and Garry Warrender has been selected playing at Lead this time. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume have also been selected for the game that will be held at Welwyn & District Bowls Club at 2.00pm on Saturday 17th June against Suffolk.
12th June - The Hertfordshire Balcomb Trophy squad (Top 8 players) has also been announced and Mark Plume has been selected. The Regional Finals (Last 16 Nationally) will take place on Sunday 25th June 10.00am at Parkway Bowls Club, Peterborough, with the Quarter Finals taking place at 2.30pm should the Hertfordshire Team win in the morning. The winners of the afternoon game will qualify for the National Championships that will take place in August at Leamington. We wish the team well.
11th June - Buntingford's Men came oh so close to causing an upset in the National Top Club competition after a narrow 3-2 defeat against last years National Runners Up and former National Two Fours champions Garston Bowls Club. Ross Murphy got the team off to a great start after defeating England Under 25 International player and England representative in the Junior Commonwealth games Bradley Coles, with a great win in the Two Wood Singles. Well done Ross. The Fours of Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake also won their game, but there was defeat in the Triples, Pairs and Four Wood Singles for Buntingford. So close, yet so far, but this result proves that Buntingford's Men are heading in the right direction competing with the best of the best in top level bowls.
Thank you to the supporters that turned up to cheer the team on. Thanks go to the reserves, the markers Tony Duffin and Mick Marks and of course our top chef Roger Evans for the early morning bacon rolls and lunch. Thanks Roger.
11th June - The second round of the EHBA Triples saw two Buntingford Triples take on each other. The winners were Roger Evans, Ross Murphy and Carl Frostick after they defeated John Collins, Rick Brown and Mick Marks
10th June - Hertfordshire defeated Huntingdonshire at Brampton Institute Bowls Club in their latest Middleton Cup match by 17 points to 5 (2 Points for a rink win, 1 for a draw and 10 points for the overall score). Playing for Hertfordshire and representing Buntingford were Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. Garry playing three on his rink came up against a former Junior England International and couldn't quite muster a win, whereas Carl and Mark came up against a member of the 2015 National Triples Champions that defeated the boys in the Semi Finals that same year. Some consolation for that game was a 21-15 victory today that helped Hertfordshire to victory. Well done lads. Hertfordshire now top their group with 2 games to go. Thank you yet again to our supporters of Ellen and Greg Amos for travelling all that way to cheer on the Bunty Boys. It is much appreciated.
On Sunday 11th June at 10.00am Buntingford's Men take on Garston Bowls Club in the National Top Club competition. Garston are arguably the best team in the county of Hertfordshire and in recent years they have won the National Two Fours Championships, as well as being runners up in the National Top Club Competition. It should be a great contest and we would welcome supporters to cheer the team on. Bacon rolls will be available from around 9.00am so what better incentive to come down to the club and show your support. Thank you.
9th June - A long trip to Mill End in the HB County Top Team ended with a narrow loss for Buntingford's Men that went to shot countback. 2-2 on the games, but by virtue of Mill End winning more shots, they progressed through to the Quarter Finals. Thank you to everyone that made the long journey including the players, reserves and supporters. It is very much appreciated.
9th June - The new Ladies Friday Afternoon League kicked off and Buntingford's first game was against Hertford Castle Ladies. After the rain on Monday night, the sun shone for the Bunty Girls this time around and victory was theirs. Well done to all of the Ladies.
8th June - The 2016 County Pairs Champions Peter Agnew and Mark Plume crashed out of the first round this year after a last end defeat. Carl Frostick and Scott Wake also fell at the first hurdle. Better news as Ross Murphy and Garry Warrender won. Roger Evans and Tony Keeling had an extra end victory. And another win for Peter Warrren and Vic Greenberg.
The number of visits to this website is not as high as it was during 2016. I call on all Buntingford members to spread the word and share this website please. The more views = more chance to attract sponsors and bring revenue to the club. Thank you.
6th June - HB County Singles 3rd round wins for Ross Murphy, Garry Warrender, Peter Agnew, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. The next round sees a Buntingford clash as Ross plays Carl.
6th June - Pleased to report that Peter Agnew is now out of Hospital after being told he slipped discs in his back. Hopefully he should be back on the green playing again by the end of the week.
5th June - A victory for the Bunty Girls in the Monday night league against Hertford. The game was played in a tsunami and well done to those ladies that won - and survived!
5th June - Dinah Geere's good run in the National Champion of Champions came to an end in the 3rd round at Shire Park on a very poor playing surface. Hard luck Dinah.
5th June - The next Herfordshire Middleton Cup team has been annouced and Mark Plume, Carl Frostick and Garry Warrender have all been named. Well done lads. The next game takes place at Brampton Institute Bowls Club in Huntingdon against Huntingdonshire on Saturday 10th June.
4th June - Hertfordshire played Suffolk in the Balcomb Trophy (Top 8 players) with the Suffolk team containing World ranked number 13 player Mark Royal. Mark Plume was skipping one of the Hertfordshire rinks and after playing England's number two ranked player in the Middleton Cup the day before, was drawn to play against the World ranked number 13 player Mark Royal.
The game commenced and Mark Plume's rink was never behind all game winning 18-12 in an excellent contest with some high quality Bowls. The other Hertfordshire rink skipped by Junior England International Tom Muir also won and saw Hertfordshire through to the last 16 in the Country.
4th June - The early league tables are out in the East Herts Bowls League and the Buntingford Bears are currently second in League Division Three, with the Buntingford Bulls mid-table at 7th.
4th June - We wish Peter Agnew well as he is currently lying in a hospital bed after being admitted on Saturday after the Middleton Cup game with excruciating back pain. The Doc will give a diagnosis on Monday 5th - and hopefully he will have some good news for Peter.
3rd June - Hertfordshire's Middleton Cup campaign started against a tough Northamptonshire Team containing a number of International players and National Champions. The result saw Hertfordshire win on 2 out of the 6 rinks and by a higher shot difference to claim a 14-8 points victory (2 points for a winning rink and 10 for the overall score).
The green at Welwyn & District was lightening. It was the fastest green I think anyone had ever played on with everyone saying it was just too fast.
Garry Warrender playing Middleton Cup for the first time for Buntingford was on one of those winning rinks and had an excellent game. Well done Garry.
Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick, Alan Hutchison (Bishop's Stortford) and Mark Plume were drawn to play against arguably Northamptonshire's strongest rink with the player at 3 against them having won a number of England Titles, with the Skip also having won a number of England Championships as well as being ranked number 2 in the England Rankings. A nice easy start to their campaign! It was team effort that saw the rink get a lead early on, then fall behind, then catch up, with it finishing 21-25. A great effort with some excellent bowing that helped Hertfordshire to victory. A big thank you to Ellen and Greg Amos, and Mike Grimsdale for turning up to support Hertfordshire and cheer on the Bunty Boys.
2nd June - Buntingford's Men suffered disappointment in the County Club Three Fours competition at Datchworth with all 3 rinks going down by just a few shots - and with the oppposing skips playing some excellent bowls at the right time towards the end of the game. A real positive for Buntingford was a first game for Jake Andrews at a competitive level for Buntingford. He did very well during the game and with his very first bowl drew the shot! Well done Jake.
31st May - Well done to Scott Wake for making it through to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Champion of Champions. Scott will now take on the current HB County Singles Champion in the next round.
31st May - Congratulations to Ross Murphy for making it through to the Last 16 of the HB County Unbadged Singles. His next game will be at home on Wednesday 21st June and we wish him well. Vic Greenberg has also made it through to the Last 16 and he will be away at Bishop's Stortford.
30th May - Dinah Geere has won through to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Champion of Champions after a 21-20 win. Trailing 17-20 Dinah picked up 4 to beat Lesley Moylette of Sele Farm. Well done Dinah
30th May - Peter Agnew and Mark Plume both came through their 1st round games in the HB County Singles at Bishop's Stortford.
29th May - The 'Record Scores' page has been updated further.
Further to the note below: Thank you to all of those members that contributed financially to the Bowls Development Alliance and the Macmillan charity. Your donations across the weekend both at the Spoon Drive, and the Friendly game against Stransted are greatly appreciated. The club raised a total of £47.00. Thank you.
29th May - A great turnout for the Bank Holiday Spoon Drive with around 50 members in attendance. It was also great to see some new faces aswell. Thanks to Debbie Marks for her organisation, Liz Cooper and helpers behind the bar, and Roger Evans and helpers on the Barbecue.
28th May - A new page has been added - Record Scores. This shows our biggest competition wins thoughout the club's history
27th May - Mark Plume has been selected in the Hertfordshire Balcomb squad for the second consecuetive year (and his 7th time in all) to take on Suffolk on Sunday 4th June. The Balcomb Squad consists of the top 10 players in Hertfordshire who compete in a National Two Fours competition. It's a great achievement to be considered for selection at the highest level and we wish Mark well.
27th May - Buntingford Bowls Club history will be made as all four Bunty Boys trying out for a place in the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Squad have made the team sheet for the first game against Northamptonshire on Saturday 3rd June. Peter Agnew (Lead), Carl Frostick (Two) and Mark Plume (Skip) will be on the same rink, with Garry Warrender playing three on another rink. The Middleton Cup consists of the best 24 players in Hertfordshire and this is the first time ever that the Hertfordshire team will consist of 4 Buntingford members. This really is a fantastic achievement and one the club should be very proud of. We wish the lads all the best.
27th May - The final Eastern Counties League match took place before the Hertfordshire Middlton Cup squad was announced as Hertfordshire took on Suffolk at Welwyn & District bowls club. Mark Plume skipping his rink, was defeated for the first time in 2 years in a County shirt as he went down by 8 shots, and Garry Warrender playing at three on his rink won by a cricket score after playing an excellent game. Hertfordshire won the match overall.
26th May - Well done to the trio of John Collins, Rick Brown and Mick Marks as they secured a thumping 19-9 win at Bishop's Stortford in the EHBA Triples against a very experienced triple consisting of PCG, Bob Mitchell and Derek Booth. Their prize for winning is now a second round match against another Buntingford Triple of Roger Evans, Ross Murphy and Carl Frostick.
26th May - A great result for Buntingford's Men as they came through a tough test at Bishop's Stortford in the HB County Top Team competition. At the half way stage Buntingford were up in all four games but Stortford came back to make it a tight contest. The Singles finished 17-21. The Fours finished 20-23. The Triples (playing the current County Triples Semi Finalists) ran out winners by 30-4, which meant the game came down to the last end of the Pairs and the lads won 18-15. This meant the game finished 2-2 but the Bunty Boys progress by virtue of winning more shots. Well done to the squad of Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender, John Powell, Mark Plume, Peter Agnew, Peter Warren, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling and Vic Greenberg.
25th May - Disappointment in the County Fours Quarter Finals as the Bunty Boys went out by just 2 shots to a very good Garston Four. Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume were 14-2 down after just 7 ends after dropping a poor 6 and a lucky four in consecuetive ends. But they rallied to pull level at 17-17 after 17 ends and were holding 2 shots on the 18th end to take the lead with just 1 bowl to come from the opposing skip - and he bowled a great wood to turn the head and the match around. That was the turning point with the final score being 19-21. Hard luck lads.
23rd May - It was oh so close in the National 'Tony Allcock' Trophy as Buntingford went down by just 4 shots against an experienced Welwyn & District team. 25-25 on one rink, with the other going down by 4 shots. A great effort.
23rd May - Congratulations to Vic Greenberg for cruising through his second round match in the National Champion of Champions after a thumping 21-1 win against the club champion from Abbots Langley. It was all over within 10 ends! Well done Vic.
22nd May - So we may not be able to prove that there is life on other planets yet. We may not be able to prove that Elvis is in fact alive and well and living somewhere, BUT - one thing we can now all tick off our lists is that we finally have proof that Garry Warrender does know where the Buntingford Bowls Club kitchen is.......
21st May - Unfortunately Buntingford's Ladies bowed out of the National Top Club against a very strong Croxley Guild team.
20th May - Carl Frostick and Peter Agnew represented Buntingford Bowls Club in the recent Eastern Counties League match for Hertfordshire against Cambridgeshire. Peter was on a winning rink, and Carl went down by just 1 shot on the very last end.
18th May - Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume cruised into the Quarter Finals of the HB County Fours after their opponents conceeded the game after just 10 ends! The rain fell during the match and the Bunty Boys dropped 2 singles and scored 18 shots in 8 ends before their opponents decided enough was enough at 18-2. Well done to the lads and the Quarter Final match will be at Welwyn & District Bowls Club on Thursday 25th May 6.00pm against Martin & Bradley Coles four from Garston.
18th May - Buntingford Bears recorded a comfortable win in their latest EHBL Division Three league match.

17th May - The Club Information page updated.
17th May - Peter Agnew, Tony Keeling and Garry Warrender bowed out of the HB County Triples in their last 16 round match. The weather was absolutely terrible and it was a shame that the conditions affected the outcome of the match. Hard luck lads.
16th May - Congratulations to the Buntingford Bowls League players as they triumphed in their first round match in the EHBL Ranson Cup against BSP. The rink of Mick Marks, Dave Clifton, Mike Grimsdale and Brian Bushell won comfortably at home 26-13, and the rink of John Collins, Tony Duffin, Greg Aos and Charles Oats kept it tight on the away rink. Well done lads.
16th May - Buntingford's Men went out of the Natonal Club Two Fours by just 5 shots against a very strong Baldock team containing 2 former County Singles Wiinners, 5 Middleton Cup players a Middleton Cup Trialist. Thank you to Roxana Clifton and Ellen Amos in the Kitchen and Roger Evans behind the bar.
15th May - Congratulations to the Bunty Boys of Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume for reaching the last 16 of the County Fours with a thumping 24-5 win. Well done lads
13th May - The next Two Eastern Counties League Match teams have been selected for Hertfordshire's games against Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. 8th May - Three Buntingford's Mens Triples have made it through to the Last 32 of the County Triples as there were wins for Roger Evans, Mike Hatley and Ross Murphy, Peter Agnew, Tony Keeling and Garry Warrender, and Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume. Unfortuntaley in the Ladies Triples Debbie Marks Triple bowed out at this stage.
7th May - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Trial took place today at Welwyn & District Bowls Club as 48 players were invited from across the County. Two games took place as the selectors watched from the sidelines. The Middleton Cup Team will be selected at the end of May and in contention for places are Buntingford's Garry Warrender, Carl Frostiick, Peter Agnew and Mark Plume.
6th May - Buntingford Bowls Club history was made in the Eastern Counties League Match today as Hertfordshire took on Essex at Dunmow. Four Buntingford players were represented in the Hertfordshire Team, and this is the frst time in the Club's history that this many Buntingford Players have been in the same Hertfordshire team - and they were all on winning rinks! Garry Warrender leading on his rink won by 5 shots, and Peter Agnew (Lead), Carl Frostick (Two), Alan Hutchison (Three) and Mark Plume (Skip) won 22-12 on their rink. A great start to the campaign for Hertfordshire as they won the match comfortably and well done to the Bunty Boys.
4th May - On yet another bitterly cold evening our Bunty Girls have some excellent news - Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos, Roxana Clifton and Dinah Geere have won through to the next round of the HB County Fours after victory against a very experienced four skipped by Daphne Pratt from Sele Farm. A great turn out from the members and thanks to those that helped in the Kitchen. As for the green - I think we were all suitably impressed by the speed of the green as it was a pleasure to roll the woods towards the Jack.......
22nd April - A great turn out for the working party at the club this morning, and we were all well fed in the kitchen too. There must have been at least 30 members down there doing their bit for our club and thank you to everyone that turned up. The Spoon Drive officially opens the green tomorrow afternoon, so please pop down and show your support to our great club. Thank you.
21st April - It is very sad news to announce the passing of John Stone.
John was a member of Buntingford Bowls Club for over 20 years and during his time served the club well in a number of Official positions, most notibly John served as Club Captain and also became Club President in 2015.
On the field of play John was part of the historic Buntingford Bowls Club Team that won the Hertfordshire County League in 2005, which was Buntingford's very first County Honour. John was part of the East Area League Cup winning team on 3 separate occasions. John played in an EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy winning team and also won 9 Buntingford Bowls Club competitions. Thoughts are with Denise and family at this difficult time.

8th February - Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope - It's a damn fox!
I know we are a club for all ages, all abilities and all aspirations - but this is taking it a bit too far. Well I suppose at least the fox won't go hungry as there is more than enough food - It can eat all of the worms that appear on rink 1...
Hopefully our Greenkeepers will be able to repair and fill the damaged ground in time for the start of the season and get rid of that fox for good. With the Greenkeepers coming from Garston Bowls Club - they should have great experience in dealing with foxes as they had trouble on their green 2 years ago. Good luck fella's - we have faith in you!!!

17th September - Semi Finalitus struck again for Buntingford as Peter Agnew & Mark Plume were beaten by just 1 shot in their Eastern Counties Pairs Semi Final against Suffolk. The first few ends were shared and then came a piece of luck that went against them. Holding 1 shot with just their opponents Skip to bowl, he bowled tight, got a lucky wick taking the shot bowl out of the head for a 6 shot turnaround! The Bunty Boys battled back and with 3 ends to play there was just 1 shot in it - and then the luck went against them again. They dropped a 2 on the 19th end and then on the 20th end the Jack edged the wrong way and they dropped another 2 shots. 5 shots behind going into the last end and then 1 down after the Jack got moved after Aggers had bowled. Mark drew 4 shots and just missed out on making 5 shots with his last bowl by a matter of inches, and the Bunty Boys went out 18-19. A great effort but very frustrating at the end. Thank you to our ever faithful supporters of Eddie Plume, Jenny Hawes, Ellen Amos, Greg Amos and Scott Wake. It really does mean a lot.

East Herts Bowls Association Finals Day:
Jubilation for Buntingford's Men, and heartbreak in the Mixed Pairs.
4th September - Buntingford's Men kicked off EHBA Finals day with a very comfortable victory in the Lyndhurst Trophy Final. Both Triples won by a bucket load and the team thoroughly deserved the trophy. The team was Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake: Peter Agnew, John Powell & Mark Plume. Afterwards it was the Thurgood Cup Final and we thought the Lyndhurst Trophy game was comfortable in the morning - well this was even more comfortable with a huge win that was ended after just 14 of the 21 ends played. A massive victory for the team of Ross Murphy, Mike Hatley, Scott Wake, Carl Frostick: Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, Peter Agnew & Mark Plume. The Mixed Pairs was the last game on and it went right down to the wire. A great fight by Debbie Marks and John Powell saw them pipped on the last end as they went down by just 1 shot. A fantastic effort from both of them.
And wow!!! - What about the support from the Buntingford Club?!?. In attendance cheering everyone on throughout the day was: Greg Amos, Ellen Amos, Gwen Beale, Frank Beale, Rick Brown, Jenny Brown, Brian Bushell, Dave Clifton, Roxy Clifton, John Collins, Liz Cooper, Mike Cooper, Mike Grimsdale, Jenny Hawes, Chris Hatley, Stan Keen, Mick Marks, Val Moules, Eddie Plume. Adding the 10 players on show meant that there were 29 members from the Buntingford Club watching and supporting. Thank you so much - Your support really does make a difference! Also supporting the team were Jayne Plume, Chloe Plume and our team photographer Daryll Davies - thank you.

Club Finals Day Schedule 2016 - Saturday 10th September :
2nd September - The new pages are now beginning to take shape. A new Photo album has been created - 'Club History in Pics'. This shows some early photographs from the 1920's right through to current times. Another album has been created - 'New Premises 1998'. This shows our reconstruction from the old wooden clubhouse, to the new modern facilities we currently have now.
1st September - You will see new Photo Albums starting to appear on the menu pages. 'Fasthost' who currently power our Website have reduced the data capacity within each Photo Album and it isn't now possible to hold the vast number of Photograph's we currently have within each album. I will therefore create more tailored albums for ease of use and viewing. Please bear with me as these albums will take a while for me to create and construct. Thank you.
The Bowls England Championships at Leamington Spa 2016
The ultimate aim for every competition bowler that enters a County Competition at the start of the season has to be to qualify for the Bowls England National Championships. Not only did Peter Agnew and Mark Plume do just this, but they qualified as Hertfordshire County Pairs Champions and took their place in the last 64 in England.
There were approximately 8000 entries across the Country at the start of the season, and Peter Agnew & Mark Plume had battled through 8 rounds in Hertfordshire, and then faced Somerset in the first round of the National Championships. The game was played in brilliant sunshine and the boys got off to a slow start, but then got themselves into the game to go in front after the first 8 ends. Three lucky wicks in successive ends then went against the Bunty Boys and the scores were tied at 12-12 at the halfway stage. From then on the boys edged in front with some excellent woods and stayed in front for the rest of the match to run out winners 25-17 and go through to the last 32 in the Country. A great start!
Gloucestershire were up next and they were quality opponents. The rink was excellent with 4 swinging hands and the game was quite frankly brilliant. All four players were outstanding and the heads were of the highest quality. Buntingford went behind 5-1 and were 4 down when Mark Plume turned the match with one wood to pick up a few and the boys went in front 6-5, and then in front again at 8-6. A few ends later and unfortunately came the turning point. A lucky bowl that could have seen the boys pick up a 4, saw them drop a big count and all of a sudden after 12 ends the boys were 17-8 behind. But there was still time to come back and they did just that. 18-14 down, and then it was 20-15 down after 17 ends. On end 18 with just one wood to come from their opponents skip they were holding 4 shots to get them right back in the game, but then unfortunately came another piece of luck that went against them that killed the game off. The opponents skip fired and was very wide, but it hit a wing wood and it rolled in for shot and there was nothing the Bunty Boys could do about it. They could have been within 1 shot but it wasn’t to be. They played out the last couple of ends and the score finished 15-23 and the lads were out of the National Championships at the last 32 stage. There was disappointment at the end but both Peter & Mark gave it their all in a high quality game and they go out with their heads held high. Their opponents went on to reach the Semi Finals before falling just short of the final.
A huge thank you to the supporters from Buntingford that traveled to cheer the lads on; Bryan & Daryll Davies, Ellen & Greg Amos, Roger Evans, Scott Wake, Eddie Plume, Jenny Hawes, John Powell, Carl Frostick and Jayne Plume. Your support really did make a difference.
29th August - Back at Buntingford Bowls Club less than 2 hours away on the same day that Peter Agnew and Mark Plume were competing at the Leamington Spa in the National Championships, Buntingford held its Annual fun Australian Pairs competition. This year it was won by Dinah Geere & John Collins, with Debbie Marks & Brian Bushell as Runners up. The sun shone for the first time in years, the green and surrounds looked fantastic and thanks to all of the helpers on the day, and for the excellent lunch served up by Gwen Beale and Roxana Clifton.
18th August - Unfortunately the Buntingford Bears have just missed out on promotion from EHBL Division Three after being pipped into 5th place on shot difference. A great effort from the team this season and they will take comfort in the consolation that the Buntingford Bulls will drop down to Division Three for next season and they can now renew their rivalry......
16th August - Semi-Finalitus struck again this time for the Buntingford Ladies in the match against Bishop's Stortford in the EWHDWBA Anniversary Cup. A great effort from Grace Gibbs in the singles going down 21-20, but unfortunately the Pairs and Triples couldn't match their opponents. Hard luck Ladies but a great run to the Semi Finals. Thank you to the supporters that cheered the Ladies on. The Team was: Grace Gibbs, Dinah Geere, Roxy Clifton, Chris Hatley, Elllen Amos, Val Moules & Debbie Marks.
15th August - A great fightback in the EHBA Singles Semi Final saw Ross Murphy come so close to a place in the Final. Recovering from 18-6 behind, Ross clawed his way back to 19-15 down and was holding 4 shots with just one bowl to come from his opponent Rick Helm. Rick managed to trail the Jack for a single and then Ross held 2 shots on the very next end until the last bowl from Rick managed to draw the shot. 21-16 was the final score but a great effort. Ross was supported by 2 Buntingford Members in Greg Amos & Mark Plume, whereas the Bishop's Stortford supporters were out in force.....
15th August - The 'Club County Players' page has been updated with the 2016 stats and facts. This page includes those Buntingford Bowls Club Members that have represented Hertfordshire at County level.

13th August - Thank you to those members that supported Eddie Plume at Fremen College in promoting the sport of Bowls and Buntingford Bowls Club at the 'EHDC Forever Active Day'. In attendance were Roxy Clifton, Simon Anstey, Bryan Davies & Jenny Hawes. Thanks also to Keith Savage for producing the leaflets.
13th August - Hertfordshire have been crowned Eastern Counties League Champions after victory in their last game against Bedfordshire. Their were 6 games in total with Hertfordshire winning 5 of them to top the table and lift the Championship. Buntingford Bowls Club members Carl Frostick, Peter Agnew & Mark Plume were part of the team representing Hertfordshire that played in those matches and congratulations to all 3 of them - a truly fantastic achievement!!! Peter Agnew was on a winning rink in the last match.
11th August - Buntingford's Men treble dreams came to an end in their last County League game as they were outplayed at Bishop's Stortford Bowls Club. The Men finished 2nd in their group but it wasn't enough for them to progress to the East Area Cup Final. The Men still have the EHBA Thurgood Cup Final to play, as well as the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy Final. Both will be played on Sunday 4th Septenber at Bishop's Stortford. Buntingford's Ladies finished their County League campaign with a draw also at Bishop's Stortford.
10th August - Another piece of Buntingford History has been created as we have our very first EHBA Mixed Pairs Finalists in Debbie Marks & John Powell. Playing at Sawbridgeworth, the Bunty Team raced into a big lead but were pegged back to 18-18 after dropping a 4 on the 19th end. A single on the 20th took them into the lead once again, and then a fantastic last end saw them pick up a 5 to secure a place in the Final. Well done! Thank you to the Buntingford supporters: Mick Marks, Ellen & Greg Amos, Dinah Geere, Mark Plume & Ross Murphy.
10th August - Semi Final'itus' struck for Carl Frostick in his EHBA Singles match on a heavy and tricky Ware rink. Our 'Burnsy' drew level towards the end of the match but just couldn't quite cross the winning line. Hard luck!
8th August - Buntingford's Men are still on course for the unique treble after victory in the Semi Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy against Cheshunt by 15 shots. Well done to the team of Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake; Peter Agnew, John Powell & Mark Plume.
5th August - The Bunty Girls go marching on towards glory in the EHDWBA Anniversary Cup with victory in their Quarter Final match against Hertford 2-1. The Semi Final will now take place on a Neutral green with the date to be confirmed. We wish our Ladies well.
4th August - After winning the HB County Pairs Peter Agnew & Mark Plume qualified for the Eastern Counties Championships. This is a competition between the Champions from the Counties of Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Hertfordshire. Initially the Bunty Boys were drawn in a Preliminary match, but they were given the game by their opponents and now go through to the Eastern Counties Semi Finals to be played on Saturday 15th September at Sandy bowls Club in Bedfordshire.
3rd August - Dinah Geere cruised into the Final of the EHDWBA Millennium Cup Singles after a thumping 21-3 victory in the Semi Finals. Dinah has reached the Final once before and we hope Dinah can go one better this time and take the Trophy home. We wish you well in the Final. This game will be played at Ware Bowls Club on 13th September and we would welcome the support from fellow Buntingford Bowls Club members.
3rd August - Carl Frostick came so close to qualifying in the National Mixed Fours after a last end defeat in the Area Final. Playing with Hannah Liddle, Jess Eley and former member Matt Coppen, the team recovered from 8-0 behind to take their opponents into the last end, but just couldn't creep over the line. It was a great achievement to reach the Last 32 in the Country.
Some photo's from Presidents Day 2016:
1st August - The first leg of a unique treble is complete after Buntingford's Men qualified for the EHBA Thurgood Cup Final against Allenbury's at Ware bowls Club. Going into the last end Buntingford led by 3 shots and both rinks dropped just 1 shot to ensure they reached the Final. Well done to the team of Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Scott Wake, Carl Frostick; Peter Agnew, Bryan Davies, John Powell & Mark Plume and thank you to our faithful followers in Ellen & Greg Amos for their support once again. The men now have the Semi Final of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy to play on the 8th August, and then their last HB East Area County League game on the 11th August to complete the treble. The key then will be to win all 3 finals.
31st July - Buntingford Bowls Club players Peter Agnew & Mark Plume have been crowned Hertfordshire County Pairs Champions 2016 after victory against Whitethorn 22-17 in a hard fought final. The Bunty Boys raced into a 14-4 lead after just 9 ends and were holding 6 shots when their opponents drew shot and then the game turned. The Whitethorn team pulled shots back and got back in the game and were within 2 shots at one stage at 15-13, but the Bunty Boys held strong and went into the final end 3 shots in front at 20-17. An excellent last end and the boys got 2 shots to become the first Buntingford pair to be crowned Hertfordshire County Pairs Champions. This follows their success in the EHBA Pairs competition in 2015 and now the lads are unbeaten in 15 consecutive games and hold both Championships. Thank you to the great support from Buntingford - it really did make a difference: Ellen & Greg Amos, Micky Grimsdale, Scott & Colby Wake, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Jayne & Chloe Plume and John Powell.
30th July - Well done to Buntingford Bowls Club President Jenny Hawes for an excellent Presidents Day. It was great to see some old faces and former members stepping out onto the green again - and some hadn't even bowled for nearly 20 years (who said it showed?). Thanks to everyone for making it a special day and for all of the helpers in the Kitchen and behind the Bar.
30th July - Buntingford Bears are still on course for promotion and potentially could be crowned 'League Champions'. With 2 games in hand 'The Bears' lie in an excellent league position:
|EHBL DIVISION THREE - LATEST TABLE|
|TEAM||PLD ||WON||DRAWN||LOST||FOR||AGN ||DIFF||PTS|
|4.||W G CITY TIGERS||8||7||0||1||331||205||126||38|
|5.||N & CUFFLEY||9||6||0||3||339||242||97||37|
29th July - Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & John Powell bowed out at the Quarter Final stage of the EHBA Fours after a 2 shot defeat. After being 19-6 down, the boys did well to come back but just couldn't claim victory (dropping an 8 didn't help).
28th July - A NEW RECORD SCORE was posted after Buntingford's Men thumped Ware 71-28 in the County League. A win on both rinks saw the Bunty Boys claim 6 points and top their group with just 1 game to be played against Bishop's Stortford. A win on one of those rinks will be enough to see Buntingford through to the East Area Cup Final for a record 7 times in a row after qualifying every year since 2010. Mike Hatley made his debut in a Inter Club County Competition for Buntingford and played very well. The team: Ross Murphy, Mike Hatley, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick won 35-9. Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell & Mark Plume won 35-18 (despite dropping a 7). Thanks also to Bryan Davies for the food and Mick Marks on the bar.
25th July - Debbie Marks & John Powell have made it through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Mixed Pairs after a last wood victory. Going into the 21st end 2 behind on the scoreboard, John Powell made 3 shots with his very last wood to secure victory at Ware Bowls Club. Well done to both of you and we wish you both well as you battle for a place in the Final.
21st July - Ross Murphy romped into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Singles with a great 21-8 victory at Sawbridgeworth. Well played and all the best in the Semi Finals.
History is made again at Buntingford Bowls Club as Peter Agnew & Mark Plume qualify for the Bowls England National Championships. Well done lads and we wish you all the best.
20th July - After a nail biting end to the match Peter Agnew & Mark Plume triumphed in their County Pairs Semi Final on the extra end. The match swayed both ways with their opponents leading early on, then the Bunty Boys went 5 in front half way through. They were pegged back to go 19-17 behind with just 2 ends to play. A great end from both players saw the boys pick up a 4 and then on the last end they held the match until their opponents last wood came up heavy into the head and the jack could have gone anywhere...... In fact it went to their bowls to get 2 shots to take it into the extra end. Mark drew the shot on the extra end and the Bunty Boys went through. What tremendous support from the Buntingford Club - A big thank you to those that took the time to travel to Hatfield to support the Boys. It really did make a difference: Charles Oats, Greg Amos, Mike Grimsdale, Mike Cooper, Liz Cooper, Jenny Hawes, Eddie Plume, Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake.
20th July - A great run in the EHBA Triples came to an end at the Quarter Final stage for John Collins, Rick Brown & Mick Marks after defeat against a very experienced Hertford Castle triple skipped by Middleton Cup Player Garry Warrender.
19th July - Buntingford Bears remain at the top of EHBL Division Three after yet another stonking win - this time with a score of 51-16. A great result and well done to the team of Stan Keen, George Swaby, Len Purdy, Mick Marks, Mike Hatley & Brian Bushell. Thanks also go to Rosemary Webber and Roxy Clifton for another fantastic meal.
18th July - Buntingford's Men have reached the Semi Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after both triples won against Ware. Well done to the team of Peter Agnew, John Powell, Mark Plume; Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake. Thanks go to Simon Anstey on the bar and to Roxy Clifton for yet another excellent meal.
16th July - Peter Agnew & Carl Frostick represented Hertfordshire in their latest Eastern Counties League match away against Norfolk. Both played on the same rink and both enjoyed success with the rink gaining a victory. Hertfordshire currently lead the Eastern Counties League table with just 1 match to be played.
15th July - Great news for the Bunty Girls as they go marching on in the EHDWBA Anniversary Cup after victory over Whit Hern. Well done to the team of Grace Gibbs, Debbie Marks, Roxana Clifton, Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere
14th July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Thurgood Cup with a thumping victory over Cheshunt. Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick led 25-6 after 16 ends, and Peter Agnew, Bryan Davies, John Powell & Mark Plume led 24-9 after 16 ends when the opposition decided enough was enough and they shook hands. Thank you for the excellent meal after the game and thank you to all 3 reserves for turning up to support the team aswell - Mike Grimsdale, Stan Keen & Mike Hatley.
13th July - Buntingford Bowls Club hosted the Quarter Finals of the County Unbadged Singles and thank you to everybody from the club that made this possible. There was some great feedback from the players and supporters.
12th July - On a very wet night with constant torrential rain Peter Agnew & Mark Plume came through their Quarter Final of the County Pairs with a 19-10 victory. The Bunty Boys led from the second end and were always in control and now take their place in the Semi Finals and become the first Buntingford Pair to ever reach this stage of the competition.
12th July - The battle of Buntingford was won by Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & John Powell in their EHBA Fours match against Stan Keen, Ross Murphy, Bryan Davies & Tony Keeling. In a very tight game the match could have gone either way and the game was played where the rain just didn't stop.....
10th July - Carl Frostick and his Mixed Fours are just 1 game from the Bowls England National Championships after victory in their Last 64 clash against Bedfordshire. Carl is playing with Hannah Liddle, Jess Ely and Matt Coppen. Carl reached the National Mixed Fours Championships back in 2013 and we wish him well in the Area Final.
9th July - Hertfordshire's Middleton Cup campaign came to an end with victory over Huntingdonshire, but unfortunately this wasn't enough to send them through to the National Quarter Finals as Bedfordshire claimed victory over Cambridgeshire. The Huntingdonshire team is littered with National Champions, International players and current World Champion Nick Brett. The rink draw was made and it was Mark Plume skipping against.......World Champion Nick Brett!!! Carl Frostick playing 'two' in his rink was drawn against a National Champion and unfortunately their rink couldn't contain the opposition and they went down by a few shots. Mark's rink managed to stay in touch throughout the game with the World Champion and even led for a few ends until it was 20-20 going into the last end. Mark's rink were holding 2 shots with just Nick Brett to bowl and then Mark to have last wood - and what did the World Champion do with his last wood........... He bowled one about 6 inches from the Jack and they held shot!!! Now with everyone watching Mark's last wood the entire match depended on this - and what did Mark do......... He only went and bowled one even closer and got the shot - cue massive celebrations............ The World Champion beaten by someone from Buntingford Bowls Club - Unbelievable!!!!!

29th June - Hertfordshire have named their Middleton Cup Team for their final group game against Huntingdonshire. Carl Frostick & Mark Plume retain their places, but unfortunately Peter Agnew misses out on selection this time. The match will be played on Saturday 9th July 2pm at Welwyn & District bowls club and Hertfordshire must win - and then also hope Cambridgeshire do Hertfordshire a favour by beating Bedfordshire. If that works then Hertfordshire will make it through to the National Quarter Finals as group winners.
28th June - Two Buntingford Pairs have made it through to the 4th Round of the County Pairs. Peter Agnew & Mark Plume comfortably won through 25-8, and more good news as Debbie Marks & Roxy Clifton also came through their game at Northaw & Cuffley. Well done.
28th June - Sad news as member Eddie Smith has sadly passed away. Eddie joined the club in 2013 and thoughts are with Wife Ann and Family.
27th June - Great news as Dinah Geere has made it through to the Semi Finals of the EHDWBA Millennium Singles with a 21-14 victory. Dinah made the Final of this competition back in 2011 and we hope this year she can go one better and lift the Championship. We wish her well.
27th June - Ross Murphy has won through the first round of the County Singles with a 21-7 victory.
26th June - Mark Plume was beaten in the Bowls England National Quarter Finals representing Hertfordshire in the Balcomb Trophy and falling agonisingly just 1 game short of reaching the National Championships at Leamington. This is a Two Fours Competition and Hertfordshire beat Northamptonshire in the morning in their Last 16 clash with Mark's rink winning by 6 shots and the other Hertfordshire rink losing by 4. In the Quarter Final match in the afternoon Mark's rink were chasing shots towards the end of their game and finished drawing 19-19, with the other rink going down by 19-10. Disappointment all round......
26th June - A 21-12 victory at Whit Hern for John Collins, Rick Brown & Mick Marks in their EHBA Triples match. Well done Lads.

It's looking good for Buntingford in the EHBA Mixed Pairs competition with 5 pairs making it through to the last 16 of the competition. The draw has been kind and kept everyone apart. Best wishes as they go for glory to Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy, Roxy Clifton & Bryan Davies, Debbie Marks & John Powell, Val Moules & Stan Keen and Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick.
We wish Gwen Beale and Joan Bushell speedy recoveries from illness.
19th June - Mark Plume has been selected in the Hertfordshire Balcomb Trophy squad (Top Two Fours) for the Regional Finals matches taking place at Maulden Bowls Club in Bedfordshire 9.30am Sunday 26th June. Hertfordshire have been drawn against Northamptonshire in the last 16 match and should they win will play their Quarter Final match that afternoon against either Leicestershire or Suffolk with the winner progressing to the National Semi Finals and a place at the Bowls England National Championships, Leamington.
19th June - And Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dad's out there. Mick Marks received this message in the local paper:
18th June - All 3 Bunty Boys were on winning rinks in the latest Hertfordshire Middleton Cup match. Both Peter Agnew & Carl Frostick secured big winning margins in their rinks, and Mark Plume's rink went down to the wire as he won by 1 shot. Hertfordshire won the match comfortably and currently sit second in their group with only the winners progressing to the Quarter Finals. 1 match to be played at Welwyn & District on Saturday 9th July 2.00pm. A big thank you to Ellen & Greg Amos for turning up and showing their support.
17th June - Debbie Marks & Roxy Clifton won through their second round match in the County Pairs with victory at Sawbridgeworth. Well done to the Bunty Girls. Unfortunately Chris Hatley & Dinah Geere bowed out at this stage.

11th June - Eddie Plume, our longest serving member (joined in 1974) celebrated his 70th Birthday with a fantastic cake.
We have a new record - we've now topped an average of 20 visits to this website every single day. Thank you
Buntingford history will be made on Saturday 18th June as 3 Buntingford players have been selected in the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team for their forthcoming match against Cambridgeshire. The top 24 players in Hertfordshire are selected, and this is the first time that 3 Buntingford players will appear in the same team. Well done to Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick & Mark Plume. The match will be taking place at Welwyn & District Bowls Club 2pm. Supporters welcome.
8th June - Buntingford hosted the Hertfordshire Past Presidents game against Norfolk, and a very successful day it was. Thank you to everyone that helped during the day. It couldn't have been as successful without you. A few photograph's below.
And we are a club for all Ages, Abilities and Aspirations......
5th June - Mark Plume was selected to represent Hertfordshire in the Balcomb Trophy team to take on Cambridgeshire. Playing at 'Two' to Martin Coles, their rink won 29-14, and with the other ink drawing meant Hertfordshire have qualified for the Regional Finals (Last 16 Nationally). The Balcomb Team is the top 8 players in the County playing a 2 rink knockout competition. The Regional Finals take place on Sunday 26th June with the venue to be confirmed.
5th June - Our Buntingford Ladies put up a valiant fight against a strong Sele Farm team in the National Top Club Competition, but unfortunately just fell short in the end. Many of the Buntingford Ladies were unavailable for the game, but the Bunty Girls did win the Triples and Grace Gibbs ran the singles close, but unfortunately both the Pairs and Fours lost by a few. Hard Luck.
4th June - Hertfordshire's Middleton Cup campaign got underway against Bedfordshire at Sandy Conservative Bowls Club. Peter Agnew was making his Middleton Cup debut playing 'Two' on his rink. They went in front early on, but were pegged back and finished with a draw. Mark Plume skipped against Bedfordshire's only England International, and won by 1 shot. Overall Hertfordshire fell short winning on just 2 rinks, drawing on 1 rink, and losing on 3. The result was Bedfordshire 17 points, Hertfordshire 5. (2 points for each winning rink, 1 point for a draw, and 10 points for the overall score). A big thanks to Micky Grimsdale and Burnsy for turning up to show their support to the Bunty Boys and Hertfordshire.
3rd June - It wasn't to be for the Bunty Girls of Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere as they lost out to an experienced triple in their County Last 16 Triples match. However, they did create a piece of Buntingford History along the way. I've gone through the record books and can't see any Buntingford Ladies ever reaching that far in a County Competition before, so well done to the Bunty Girls.
3rd June - Buntingford's Men participation in the County Fours and County Triples came to an end this week at the Last 16 stage. It's now left to our Bunty Girls to carry the flag as Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere do battle tonight at Buntingford for a place in the County Quarter Finals. Please go along and support our Ladies.
2nd June - The Hertfordshire Mercury Newspaper has a full page story (page 6) on Buntingford Bowls Club. Please take a copy and share the news with family and friends and tell them what a great club we have here at Buntingford. Link to the page below:
2nd June - Roger Evans, Peter Agnew & John Powell took their opponents to the last end at Potten End in the County Triples but just fell short. Hard luck lads.
31st May - Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume bowed out to the luckiest of luckiest wicks on the final end of their County Fours last 16 clash. Going into the last end 16-15 behind after battling back from 15-6, the Bunty Boys were holding with just their opponents skip left to bowl. He fires, he's wide, he's very wide....... He hits a wood 2 yards short and 4 feet wide... The angle it's hit at takes the pace of the bowl and it trundles at drawing pace back across and into the head...... and then falls right behind the Jack for shot wood and the Bunty Boys are out of the County Fours. A cruel game at times.......very cruel.......
CONGRATULATIONS to Peter Agnew & Mark Plume on their selection for the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team. Both will take their places in the team on Saturday 4th June at Sandy Conservative Bowls Club against the County of Bedfordshire at 2.00pm. Peter will be making his debut and so becomes only the 5th player in Buntingford's history to play in the Middleton Cup. Mark returns to the team after a 2 year absence. Peter will play at 'Two' in his rink, and Mark Plume will be skipping his rink. Carl Frostick has just missed out on selection for this game but remains very much in contention to be selected for the forthcoming Middleton Cup group matches.
CONGRATULATIONS also to Mark Plume as he has been selected in a squad of 10 players to represent Hertfordshire in the Inter County Balcomb Trophy. This is a National 'Two Fours' competition and the first round match takes place at Newmarket Bowls Club on Sunday 5th June against Cambridgeshire.
- Just a note to all of the Buntingford Men that have put themselves forward for selection so far this season and played in the Inter Club competition matches. This has been a great opportunity for some new players to be embedded into the team, and for some players to shine in new playing positions. We may not have been as successful as we'd hoped for, but this experience can only benefit the club in the long run and I would like to thank you all for your support so far........
29th May - Unfortunately another defeat in a short space of time for Buntingford's Men, this time in the National Top Club competition at Datchworth. Stan Keen was drawn up against last years National Over 55 Singles Quarter-Finalists and put up a good fight before being beaten in the Two Wood Singles. Mark Plume won the 4 wood singles leaving the match nicely poised. The Pairs of Roger Evans & Ross Murphy were just in front and stayed in front to record a victory, The Fours of John Collins, Mick Marks, Greg Amos & Bryan Davies were well behind but did remarkably well to come back strong in the second half of the game only to get pipped on the 21st End. The Triples of Mike Grimsdale, Peter Agnew & Carl Frostick needed a 2 on the last end but unfortunately couldn't pull it off and the Bunty Boys bowed out of the competition 3-2. Hard Luck lads.
At least John Collins gave us a laugh or two. "Anyone lost a garden Gnome or seen his fishing rod......." (Nice bobble hat!)
27th May - Disappointment as Buntingford's Men bowed out of the County Team Ten competition after a 3-1 loss at the Three Horseshoes. A first visit to this club based in Stevenage for many of the members and defeat slipped away in the last few ends of the game. Mark Plume put a point on the board after winning the singles. The Pairs of Stan Keen & Ross Murphy went down by just 3 shots, as did the Triples of Roger Evans, Bryan Davies & Carl Frostick. The Fours of John Collins, Mike Grimsdale, Greg Amos & Peter Agnew pulled level mid-way through the game but fell away towards the end. Hard Luck lads.
Some sad news to hear about the passing of Alison 'Bubbles' Mawer. Bubbles was a club member in the 90's. Bubbles will be remembered for her happy and smiling nature. Thoughts are with Billy and Family.
25th May - The Bunty Girls of Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere have also reached the Last 16 of The County Triples with a 27-13 win against Northaw & Cuffley. Great news and all the best for your next game at home against Berkhampstead on 3rd June. Unfortunately Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos & Roxy Clifton fell to defeat at Bishop's Stortford.
25th May - A win for the Bunty Boys of Ross Murphy (subbing for Roger Evans), Peter Agnew & John Powell as they have reached the County Triples Last 16 for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. Well done lads - keep it going.
25th May - Buntingford's Men bowed out of the EHBL Ranson Cup. The Away rink managed a victory, but unfortunately the home rink lost by more than the away team won.......
24th May - A big win for Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume in the County Fours has seen them progress to the Last 16 for the second year in a row. Next up is a trip to Welwyn & District on Tuesday 31st May.
24th May - A win for the Bunty Girls of Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos and Roxy Clifton against Havers Park in the EHDWBA Triples. Well done Ladies
24th May - The Bunty lads of Dave Clifton, Mike Grimsdale and Greg Amos couldn't quite match the ladies as they fell to defeat at Sawbridgeworth in their EHBA Triples match.
We've just clocked up 25000 visitors to this website. Thank you so much
A change in fixture for the Alma Skinner Cup. This match will now be played at Buntingford on Thursday 8th September at 2.30pm.
21st May - Mark Plume skipped the highest winning rink for Hertfordshire in their victory over Cambridgeshire in the recent Eastern Counties League match. There is one more County match being played next weekend at Felixstowe before the Middleton Cup Team is announced. Carl Frostick has had to withdraw from this match due to work commitments, but Peter Agnew is playing and we wish him well.
20th May - 'Extra End-itus' again for Buntingford's Men for the second time this season as they were knocked out of the County Club Championship competition on the extra end. There were opportunities for some new faces in the team this season for Buntingford, and some in new playing positions - all valuable experience. Thank you for your efforts and hard luck lads.
19th May - The Bunty Girls march on in the County Triples with wins for Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos & Roxy Clifton, and also for Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere. Roxy's triple beat a strong Ware side, and Dinah's triple came from behind to beat a Bishop's Stortford Team. Well done Ladies and we wish you well in the next round.
19th May - Roger Evans, John Powell & Peter Agnew advanced to the next round of the County Triples with a comfortable win, but there was last end defeat for last season's National Semi Finalists Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume.
19th May - The Buntingford Bulls secured their first ever point in East Herts Bowls League Division Two. Team Captain for the day Mike Grimsdale couldn't have been happier.
18th May - Mixed results in the County Fours for our Men's Teams. Peter Agnew skipped against an National Indoor finalist from Datchworth and took them all the way to the 20th before falling away. Greg Amos four came up against experienced player John Dowler from Northaw and Cuffley but couldn't secure the victory. Mark Plume's rink played at home against Don Fox and after dropping a single shot on the first end, they rallied winning the next 13 ends and shook hands on the 14th end leading 25-1.
16th May - Buntingford's Men went out of the National Two Fours on the extra end at Northaw & Cuffley. Hard luck to the team of Roger Evans, Greg Amos, Peter Agnew, Mark Plume, Bryan Davies, Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake.
A new Archived News page has been created. With nearly 10 years of information contained within this website, some of the pages are becoming full with data. Feel free to take a look at this new page dating back to 2007. It really does make interesting reading looking back over the years........
The Ladies play their National Top Club 1st Round match on Saturday 21st May against Rosedale. Supporters are very much welcomed.
14th May - Buntingford's Men came through a tough first round match in the Hertfordshire Team Ten competition. On a very cold night Mark Plume got the team off to a good start with a 21-10 win in the singles, and at that stage the Bunty Boys were behind overall. The Team rallied in the second half of the game and Ross Murphy & Scott Wake won the Pairs 17-13, Roger Evans, Bryan Davies & Carl Frostick came back from 16-5 to draw the Triples 20-20, and the Fours of Stan Keen, Mike Grimsdale, Greg Amos and Peter Agnew went down by 7 on the Fours. A great result for the team. An away trip to The Three Horsehoes Bowls Club is up next and this will be a very first visit for many of the Team.
Thank you to Roxy Clifton and Ellen Amos for their support in the Kitchen. A hot meal on a cold evening went down very well indeed........
Bryan Davies and Mark Plume have taken over the duties of 'Team Manager' for the Men Competition teams. Between them they will select the squads for each match, and then the team that will play. Please support your club whether you are part of the Squad or not, selected as reserve or featuring as part of the team. The club can't survive without the support of its members. Thank you.
Dinah Geere will continue as Ladies 'Team Manager'.
13th May - It was oh so close for the Buntingford Team in the Tony Allcock Trophy against Sawbridgeworth. This is a National double rink (mixed) competition for the Over 60's. A respectable draw for the Amos/Geere rink winning just 8 of the 21 ends, and a narrow defeat, going down on the last couple of ends by just 4 shots for the Hatley/Bushell rink. Hard luck Team.
13th May - Playing under torch light and using Car Headlights to see the head was the order for Debbie Marks and Ross Murphy in the EHBA Mixed Pairs match at Sele Farm. Darkness fell as the 21st end forced a draw and then into the Extra End where unfortunately they couldn't secure a win. Had they eaten their Carrots when they were younger, this may have helped them....... but hard Luck to Debbie and Ross.
12th May - All the best to members Eddie Smith, John Stone and Dave Jack as all are suffering with illness. We wish you well.
11th May - Mark Plume came through the first round of the National Champion of Champions with a 21-12 victory.

10th May - The County Fours started this week with first round games for the Bunty Girls and Bunty Boys. All 3 of the Bunty Boys will be in action again in those upcoming matches.

27th January - This season Hertfordshire Bowls are changing the way they go about selecting the Middleton Cup Team. In previous years Hertfordshire have waited for players to nominate for selection, and then the squad/team has been picked from those players. This has not always meant that the 'better' players have put themselves forward for selection. This season a pool of 50+ players across the County have been specially picked and invited to put their names forward from which the squad/team will be picked. Congratulations to Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume as they are amongst those players invited.
