  COUNTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2018
Buntingford's Men rounded of their fantastic season by winning the Hertfordshire County League.
After reaching the Semi Finals they faced arguably the best club in Hertfordshire on their own green - Garston. However, they were no match for the mighty Bunty Boys as they steamrolled their opponents 43-25.
In the County League Final they faced Harpenden. This was a repeat of the 2014 Final and this time the result was exactly the same!!!
The Bunty Boys ran out 43-30 winners to move up to 2nd in the all-time winners list with 3 County League Titles since the competition began in 1995.
And on a great note, Buntingford did not lose a single rink during the entire 2018 campaign.

A big thank you to Team Manager
Roger Evans for kicking off the day with our traditional Breakfast for reaching this stage of the competition.
Thank you to our reserves
Bryan Davies, Dave Murphy and Roger Evans.
And a big thank you to our faithful travelling support of
Ellen & Greg Amos, Jennie Keeling, Daryll Davies and Micky G.

The victorious team were:
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake, Mark Plume, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender.

Buntingford's Men won a record breaking 9th Hertfordshire Bowls East Area Cup after a hard fought victory against Northaw & Cuffley 50-35.
The team raced into an early lead, but then were pegged back as the game went on. Both rinks were ahead during the first half, but then both fell behind at some stage during the second half of the match. Towards the end the Bunty Boys found second gear to run out as deserved Champions.

Stan Keen, Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender won 19-18
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 31-17

Thank you to our supporters: Greg Amos, Ross Murphy & Jennie Keeling.

29th August -
History made today as Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy become our first ever East Herts Bowls League Mixed Pairs Finalists.
After falling behind the Buntingford Pair were 7 shots down with just 2 ends to play - BUT - 3 shots on the 20th end and then a 5 on the 21st end saw them through to the Final. Well done to both of you.
So, that's the EHBL Fours Final, the EHBL Pairs Final and now the EHBL Mixed Pairs Final gives Buntingford Bowls Club their best ever performance in the clubs history.
The Finals will be played on Sunday 9th September at Ware Bowls Club.

28th August - Dinah Geere bowed out at the Semi Finals stage of the EHDWBA Singles after a tough match. The score did not reflect the game and all the luck seemed to go against Dinah.
A consolation is that Dinah became the first Lady Bowler from Buntingford Bowls Club to reach that stage of the competition so Dinah created a little piece of history along the way.....

27th August - Today's Australian Pairs competition resulted in a very tense play-off between Dave Murphy & Len Purdy against Garry Warrender & Ray Watkins. Dave and Len came out on top and congratulations to them both.
Mike Cooper won the Australian Spider. A very big thank you to Roger Evans, Roxy Clifton, Ross Murphy and Peter Warren for the superb bbq buffet lunch. Thank you to all those who helped set out and clear the green. And another big thank you to all those who played today.

National Triples – The Story

So once again Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume took to the biggest stage in Bowls at the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa as they entered the round of Last 64 in the National Triples competition.

The weather was kind to them, and as they waited to play they looked across  the rinks on all 5 greens and it really was ‘The Who’s who’ of top level bowls.
On show were Commonwealth Gold Medallist’s, British Isles Champions, National Champions, England Internationals both Senior and Junior, World Ranked players – and of course our very own Bunty Boys.

The Bunty Boys were up against former National Champions from Buckinghamshire on their rink. They were followed by a great number of Buntingford supporters and got off to a good start.
6-3 up after 5 ends and everyone could see they were involved in a great tussle. The Buckinghamshire Triple came back at them and then edged in front, but the Bunty Boys pulled away again and it was 9-7 after 9 ends.
The lads fell 11-10 behind after 13 ends and with just 5 ends to play the boys had to dig in – and they did just that!
Some excellent bowling saw them pick up a 4 on end 14 to lead 14-11.
Another single on the 15th end stretched their lead, and then holding shot on the 16th end the Bucks skip mis-judged a fire with his last wood and the Bunty Boys picked up a 5 to lead 20-11.
2 ends to play and they had one foot in the next round. They played out the last couple of ends comfortably and shook hands to great applause from the supporters.

Back on the green just after lunch and they faced more former National Champions and a Triple from Herefordshire containing 2 England Internationals. It was clear to see the lads faced another tough encounter.
This time though they didn’t have the rub of the green and the opposing skip seemed to fire with nearly every bowl - and with great accuracy aswell.
Early on came a huge turning point. With the score at 2-5 after 5 ends, the Bunty Boys were holding 3 shots with just 1 bowl to come. The opposing skip fired and when all the bowls had come to rest instead of it being 5-5 on the scoreboard, it was 2-8 and it was going to be tough to come back from that.
2-10 and all the little rubs, edges and wicks were still going against the lads.
The Bunty Boys dug in but the ends were running out and the score was then 10-18 with 4 ends to play. They won the last 4 ends but couldn’t muster enough shots to take a victory and it finished 14-18.
A valiant effort with some fantastic bowling from all 3 Buntingford players.

Our supporters were commended by the opposition which was great to hear and you all created a great atmosphere for us to play in.
A massive thank you for those that travelled up on the day to cheer the lads on, and to those that booked hotels to stay in Leamington aswell. Your support was very much appreciated – Thank you so, so much:
Jennie & Tony Keeling, Ellen & Greg Amos, Daryll & Bryan Davies, Roger Evans, Eddie Plume, Jayne Plume, Chloe Plume, Garry & Matt Warrender, Ross & Matthew Murphy and Vic Greenberg.

It was a shame the offer of a Coach to the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa from Buntingford Bowls Club wasn’t taken up by the members - because you really did miss out on a truly great spectacle……

On Monday 27th August at 9.45am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club Website stood at 46092.                     There have been 6642 views so far in 2018 averaging 28 views every day. Thank you so much.

23rd August - The battle of Buntingford in the East Herts Bowls League Pairs Semi Final saw Greg Amos & Dave Murphy have an excellent game and triumph against Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy 25-15. This is the first External Competition Final Greg has reached and we wish both Greg & Dave well in the Final.
So thats the Bowls League Fours Finalists and the Bowls League Pairs Finalists now confirmed, and this will be the first time in nearly 100 years that Buntingford will be represented in these competitions on EHBL Finals Day.

Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of finalists as they will play their Mixed Pairs Semi Final on the 29th.

21st August - As it does every season the winner of the County League 'East Division A' always comes down to a clash between Bishop's Stortford and Buntingford. The Bunty Boys have been in 7 out of the last 8 East Area Cup Finals - and today they reached another one!
With the floodlights on at Bishop's Stortford the lads won by 14 shots.

Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won 20-15
Roger Evans, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 20-11

The final is due to be played on the same day as the East Herts Bowls Association Finals Day where Buntingford players are already in 8 out of the 10 finals. Good luck sorting out the programme for that one!

20th August - So that 8 out of 8 complete.....
Buntingford's Men have equalled last seasons record  by reaching 8 East Herts Bowls Assocoiation Finals. The Association run 10 competitions and the Bunty Boys have dominated this year again.
Competing the 8 last night was
Ross Murphy in the EHBA Singles and Mark Plume in the EHBA Champion of Champions.
Ross went into an 11-2 lead, and then fell behind 16-12. A close finish saw Ross come through 21-20 and sedcure his place in the Final.
And Mark also raced into a big lead, only to be pegged back. 15-4 up, and then 18-16 in front, Mark eventually ran out winning 21-16. This win now means Mark will be playing in his 5th EHBA Champion of Champions Final.
Well done to both of you and we wish all Buntingford Finalists well on EHBA Finals Day at Buntingford Bowls Club on Sunday 2nd September.

19th August - Please log into our Facebook page to see photograph's and action from the Bowls England National Championships.

18th August - Now this is a great story to share and a nice touching moment. Every player that qualifies for Leamington in the Bowls England National Championships is awarded a badge. Here's one below:

                                                   BE_Badge_2018
This year Bishop's Stortford Bowls Club had two Ladies qualify for the National Finals after they had reached the Hertfordshire County Pairs Final. This was the first time they had ever qualified. However, one of the Ladies fell and broke her hip and the other also fell over which meant that neither player could attend the Championships to play, and therefore neither player was awarded their badge. Bowls England were adament that their rules state that players have to be in attendance to receive their qualifying badge and they weren't going to budge given the circumstances. Very harsh indeed.
Whilst Buntingford Bowls Club were playing their National Two Fours this week at Leamington, Ross Murphy managed to secure another badge, and together with the badge he won himself for qualifying - he has donated both badges to those Ladies. WOW! What a generous gesture. Well done Ross.

18th August - Bishop's Stortford Bowls Club hosted their Annual Pairs Tournament and taking part this year were Buntingford's Tony Keeling, Dinah & Phil Geere and Mark Plume. Now Tony and his partner were very generous in their games giving their opponents more shots than they got themselves in every game they played. Dinah & Phil had a mixed bag across their 4 games, and Mark Plume partnering Alan Hutchison ended up as Tournament Winners. Well done.

National Two Fours – The Story

Buntingford’s journey started back in May and finished at the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa in August – and in a National Final. Who would have ever thought that was possible...

After receiving a Bye in the first round, the Bunty Boys then beat 4 Hertfordshire Clubs in the knockout stages to take them through to the Area Final. A last wood win against Houghton Regis from Bedfordshire saw them reach the Last 16 play-off match - a feat that had never been achieved before in the history of the club.
A match up against Romford from Essex containing a number of National Champions and England Internationals went down to the wire and a 2 shot victory saw Buntingford Bowls Club reach the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa for the very first time – and the last 8 in the country!

Travelling up on the morning of Thursday 16th August it was pelting down with rain, but the rain cleared and the sun shone through as the lads took their place on the green to play Bristol Bowls Club. A surreal experience to believe that Buntingford Bowls Club were actually playing in a National Quarter Final.
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were locked in a very tight battle that saw the scores at 6-5 after 11 ends played. The rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were also in a tight contest that never saw any team pull away by more than 4 shots – but at half way through the match, Buntingford led.
17 ends each played and Buntingford were ahead by 4 shots.
19 ends played each and Buntingford were up by just 2 shots.
Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were 1 end ahead and going into the last end were 1 shot down on the scoreboard. Three brilliant bowls in the last 3 woods by Dave Murphy and Garry Warrender saw the lads pick up three shots to win 18-16 and the Bunty Boys were almost there.
A great 20th e
nd by Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume saw them pick up 4 shots and the game was all over. Buntingford Bowls Club had reached the National Two Fours Semi Finals – and now cue the celebrations……

Team Manager Roger Evans and travelling reserve Bryan Davies lived every bowl from the side-lines and offered great support throughout the encounter. It was also great to see support from Buntingford’s Larry Bullen, Mike Hatley, Greg Amos, Eddie Plume and of course from all of the families of all of the players. Bishop’s Stortford Bowls Club were also out in force to support and with Marcia Dunstone from Hertfordshire Bowls, Buntingford had a great following.

Semi Final morning and the Bunty Boys were buzzing.
There was great support again as a number of people packed the sides of the green to cheer the lads on.

Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were drawn to face an England International from Workington Bowls Club in Cumbria, and the rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender had an equally tough match against their opposition.

Early into the game and with some excellent bowling Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender led 15-2. The rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were locked into another tense encounter with the scores going firstly in favour of the Bunty Boys, and then the way of their Cumbrian opponents.
The rink against Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender began to peg back against the Bunty Boys and the rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume began to fall behind. With the scores at 15-7 and 14-19 meant there were now only 3 shots in the game.
But - 17 ends played and Buntingford were now up by 6 shots.
2 ends left and Buntingford had pulled back and were level on the rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume tied at 21-21, and the rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were up 18-13. Buntingford were almost there…..

A great last bowl by Mark Plume saw their rink win by 1 shot leaving their opponents needing a 6 to tie the game against Garry Warrender. They didn’t get the shots required and Buntingford were in the National Two Fours Final – WOW!!!

The National Final – yes the National Final (how good does that sound?) saw Buntingford up against the favourites for the competition. Gerrards Cross had won the title before and this time their team contained 8 Buckinghamshire County Middleton Cup players and a number of England Internationals. The Bunty Boys were the underdogs but we were never going to give in that easily….

The game kicked off and both rinks picked up a two on the first end.
4-0 up and although it
may not seem much now knowing how the game panned out – but it is a hugely significant moment to mention that Buntingford Bowls Club actually led a National Final……
From then on the Bunty Boys battled hard but it just wasn’t to be.
The players shook hands and as the Bunty Boys headed over to their families there were maybe one or two tears amongst all of the hugs.

It hurts to get beaten in a National Final – but who would have thought it? Buntingford Bowls Club were National Two Fours Finalists for 2018.
847 entries at the start of the competition and Buntingford had reached the last 2.
A massive achievement for all of the players involved and one that shouldn’t be underestimated.

The Bunty Boys had built a great team spirit throughout the season and credit to all of the players and supporters involved……….

 HISTORY FOR BUNTINGFORD
Buntingford Bowls Club have qualified for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa after victory in the National Two Fours against Romford by 2 shots - and they are now in the last 8 of the Country!!!
And what a match this was....... Buntingford were up against arguably the best club in Essex containing National Champions and an England International Player - but that didn't matter at all !
Buntingford led early on and then kept the lead at halfway. Romford fought back and got their noses in front for the very  first time after 19 ends played on both rinks. 4 shots behind with just 4 ends to play and the Bunty Boys dug in.
2 shots on 1 rink, a single on the other, 2 shots on the last end and the Bunty Boys led by 1 shot with just 1 end to play - And it came down to the last wood.
Bunty were holding one, the Essex skip was wide - and the Bunty Boys win!!!

Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Dave Murphy & Carl Frostick have reached the Final after a 21-18 win against Ware. A tight game turned on its head as the Buntingford Team picked up a 5 on the 17th end to go in front. The team then held out for the win. Well done.

8th August - 4 complete with 4 to go.....
Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling & Mark Plume battled their way into the EHBA Triples Final after victory against Bob Spence' triple from Whit Hern. The Bunty Boys led early on, only to be pegged back, but then pulled away towards the end to win 19-12. A big thank you to Bob Hayter and his team at Hoddesdon & Rye Park for their hospitality.

7th August - Ross Murphy has won through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Singles after an excellent game in a 21-13 victory in his Quarter Final match. Ross was up against Richard Rogers who had already knocked out Tony Keeling & Carl Frostick and we wish Ross all the best in his Semi Final game.

7th August -
From our Ladies Captain Debbie Marks:
It was the Club's Annual Ladies Gala with 20 teams from across the County competing. It was a lovely day and the weather held out with only a few spots of rain in the late afternoon. A big thank you to Roger Evans and his all male kitchen crew for a lovely three course lunch, to Tony Duffin, Bryan Davies & Mick Marks for running the bar, to Rosemary Webber for her stall, to all those who donated cakes and raffle prizes, to the three reserves, Liz Cooper, Joan Wilson & Sue Batchelor for helping with the various activities. And finally a big thank you to all those who maintain the green even during these trying climactic conditions, the club and green looked lovely.

6th August - 3 out of 10 complete - with 5 to go.......
Roger Evans & Peter Warren triumphed against the 2016 Champions in the EHBA Two Wood Pairs Quarter Finals. The win means they will now face our other Buntingford Pair Ross Murphy & Scott Wake for a place in the Final. We wish both Pairs all the best.

6th August - Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick came oh so close to making the EHBA Mixed Pairs Final but just fell short for the 2nd time in 3 years. In their Semi Final Match they were drawn to play Whit Hern who have made the Final in the last 2 years and went down by 10 shots. Their Lead played very well and I'm told a few lucky 'wicks' went against them during the game, and that proved to be the difference. Hard luck to both of you.

6th August - The Buntingford Bears are almost there.......
Back to back promotions is a real possibility now.....
4 points against top of the table Bengeo brings them that bit closer.
Well done team.

6th August - Greg Amos & Dave Murphy joined our other Buntingford Pair into the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Pairs after a 23-13 win against Welwyn Garden City. Their opponents started well but playing long jacks (with the mats down - yes in August with the summer were having.....), the Bunty Pair pulled away for victory. Unfortunately, it won't be an all Buntingford affair in the Final as both pairs now have to play each other. So we guarantee to have our first finalists in the EHBL Pairs since 1925. All the best to all of the Buntingford players.

6th August - Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy strolled into the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Pairs after a 23-7 win against Sawbridgeworth. Excellent leading from the front by Bryan saw them through. Buntingford's last EHBL Pairs winners date back to the 1920's, so we wish the lads well in their next match.

4th August - Reigning and defending EHBA Triples Champions Peter Warre, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender bowed out at the Semi Final stage this year after defeat at Ware.

On Saturday 4th August at 9.15am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club Website stood at 44900.                        There have been 5450 views so far in 2018 averaging 25 views per day. Thank you so much.

3rd August - Jennie Keeling (subbing for Sue Batchelor) & Ross Murphy have made it through to the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Mixed Pairs with victory against Ware. After winning 11 of the first 13 ends they were pegged back to finish 17-17 and went into an extra end. Holding 3 after Jennie had bowled and heading for victory, only for the opposing skip to fire and finish 3 inches from the Jack. With the last bowl of the match Ross drew a back-toucher to claim victory. Well done to both of you

3rd August - Buntingford are still on course for a 9 out of 10 after Mark Plume booked his place in the EHBA Champion of Champions Semi Finals with victory at Bengeo. 14-4 up on an 'interesting rink' and then Mark dozed off for the next 3 ends dropping a 4, 3 and a 2 in the process. H e then woke up to see out the win 21-13.

3rd August - Bryan Davies came so close to reaching the Semi Finals of the EHBA Singles after a 21-20 defeat against Kevin Tryrell from Bishop's Stortford. 20-20 and Bryan was holding game until Kev with his last wood took the shot. Bryan had one wood to come but just couldn't quite make it. Gutting for Bryan and well done to Kev. Ross Murphy is now our clubs sole survivor in the EHBA Singles.

2nd August - The Buntingford Bears are edging closer to back-to-back promotions after another victory this week. The rink skipped by Tony Keeling was 16-5 behind but battled back for a 23-17 win. And the rink skipped by Dave Murphy were 12-3 up, and then 16-15 down going into the last end. Holding 1 with just Dave Murphy to bowl, and he drew second wood for a 1 shot victory on his rink and give the Bears all 6 points. Well done Team.
The Buntingford Bears next match is against the top of the table team Bengeo on Monday evening (6th).

1st August - So it won't be a EHBA Clean Sweep this year but the club are still on for nine out of the ten. You have to be in the right frame of mind to play a competitive match and when the traffic plays a part in delaying your arrival that can have a big impact on the outcome of the game.
Cheshunt was gridlocked and play didnt start until 6.45pm. No trial ends and a shortened match of just 18 ends would have affected the outcome. The Bunty Boys of
Roger Evans, Dave Murphy, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick came close but playing on a tricky rink they fell short by 13-16. Playing the full 21 ends may have seen them get over the winning line - but we'll never know....

1st August - Ross Murphy & Scott Wake reach the EHBA Two Wood Pairs Semi Final. Well done lads.

31st July - 2 complete with 8 to go......
Buntingford's Men romped into the Final of the EHBA Thurgood with a 48-31 victory against Whit Hern. The Bunty Boys have now reached two finals and still have representatives in the other 8 competitions.

30th July - The EHBA Clean Sweep is still on - just!
Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender came back from 13-2 behind in their EHBA Pairs Quarter Final, and 19-12 behind with just 3 ends to play and picked up a single and 2 three's to force an extra end - which they won. Well done lads.

30th July - Latest East Herts Bowls League Tables:
4 Games left to be played for the
Buntingford Bears who are well placed for back to back promotions.
2 Games left for the
Buntingford Bulls as they push for a promotion place.
We wish both teams well in their final few games.

29th July - The 'Bunty Boys' of Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume finished this year as County Triples Runners Up 2018. A tremendous achievement to reach the Bowls England National Championships this season, but disappointment in the Hertfordshire County Triples Final.
The boys started really well picking up a 6 on the first end followed by a 2 on the next end. But from then on nothing went their way. The opposing skip played 4 massive bowls during the game including turning a 3 down into a 6 up, a 4 down to a 5 up, a lucky wick saw a 3 down turn into a 4 up, and another 1 down turned into a 4 up. 19 shots against Buntingford on the scoreboard with a massive 30 shot turnaround in just those 4 bowls. It was all very dis-heartening. The Bunty Boys played well in patches but overall were just a little off the pace. A valiant effort and after 14 ends they shook hands. The weather didn't help with the rain and wind playing havoc with deliveries and the pace of the green early on. Such a shame given how hot and sunny it has been over the recent weeks.
A big thank you to the support from the Buntingford members that braved the conditions to cheer the lads on. The usual crowd turned up again - Thank you:
Ellen & Greg Amos, Ross & Matthew Murphy, Eddie Plume, Jayne Plume, Roger Evans, Jennie & Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy, Micky Grimsdale, Peter Warren & Vic Greenberg. And even our old member Ken Mulqueen turned up to support aswell. Great to see you Ken.

On Sunday 29th July at 4.00pm the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club Website stood at 44634.                      There have been 5184 views so far in 2018 averaging 24 views per day. Thank you so much.

28th July - Buntingford's Men have created Buntingford History as they reach the Last 16 of the Bowls England National Two Fours competition with victory against Houghton Regis (compliments to a club with nice friendly members).
The match was played in windy conditions with the green a bit heavy after yesterday's storms and it came down to the very last bowl of the match. The Bunty Boys were 12 shots up across the two rinks at the halfway stage and were looking odds-on to reach the next round, but three poor ends on one rink saw the gap close to just 1 shot with just 3 ends to play. One rink picked up a 3 on their last end, the other dropped a two on their 20th end and it was 2 shots in front going into the last end. Buntingford held one, only for their skip to take it out to hold three and the match..... It then came down to
Gary Warrender with the last bowl of the match and he promptly drew second bowl to send the Bunty Boys through and cue the celebrations........
Romford Bowls Club are up next for a place in the Quarter Finals and a place at Leamington Spa in the Bowls England National Championships. The date will be confirmed soon, together with the Neutral Green location.
The victorious team were:

Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender 21-17
Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake, Mark Plume 20-23

A big thank you to Sue Batchelor & Ellen Amos for Bacon Rolls for breakfast and rolls for lunch, and good see our old Bunty Boy Aggers back cheering us on. And later on our good friend and past member Bert Cherrington made an appearance at the club. Nice to see you Bert.

28th June - The Buntingford Bowls Club Home Page has been updated.

27th July - So just as we approach a huge weekend for Buntingford Bowls Club with the last 32 clash in the National Two Fours taking place on Saturday morning, the club hosting the Hertfordshire County Team Ten Final taking on Saturday afternoon, and the Hertfordshire County Triples taking place for Carl Frostick Scott Wake & Mark Plume on Sunday morning, we find the once clear blue skies with the sun endlessly shining brightly in the sky has been replaced with thunder, lightening, cloud and lots of rain & hail.....terrific......

26th July - Buntingford's Men took all 6 points against Ware in the latest County League match - just. With one rink romping to victory, the other rink was a little closer. After being 1 shot behind on the scoreboard and 1 down on the last end, up stepped Carl Frostick to take out the Ware shot bowl to secure all of the points for the Bunty Boys.
Ross Murphy, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick & Tony Keeling won 21-18
Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Dave Murphy & Mark Plume won 32-6

25th July - Australian Pairs - Monday 27th August at 10.00am.

Ever wondered what to do on the last Bank Holiday of the year? Why not come along and join in the fun of ‘Aussie Pairs’. Ever wondered what to do with that exotic flowery shirt that seemed a good purchase at the time? Dress down day means that you can wear what you like (within reason), nothing that would scare the horses or the servants of course, and nothing tooooo revealing either, or you can wear your normal bowls wear, the choice is yours.... naturally, bowls shoes are to be worn.
Luncheon will be the famous ‘Bunty BBQ’.... £5.00 per head
Interested? Put your name on the nomination sheet below...
Nominations will close on Wednesday 22nd August at 10.00am

25th July - Part 1 of 10 is now complete after defending and reigning EHBA Officers Singles Champion Bryan Davies battled his way to this years Final. Bryan raced into a 18-8 lead in his Semi Final Match against the 2016 EHBA Singles Champion Rick Helm, only to drop a 4, 4 and a 2 in consecutive ends to make the scores level at 18-18. Bryan then dug deep to pick up a 2 on the next end followed by a single to reach the Final. Well done Bryan.

25th July - Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick raced into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Mixed Pairs after a thumping 23-5 win at Sawbridgeworth. Well done to both of you.

25th July - It is with sad news to announce the passing of Hazel Hicks, wife of member John Hicks. John had taken time away from bowls in recent years to care for Hazel and thoughts are with John and his family at this difficult time. The funeral will take place at Harwood Park, Stevenage on Friday 3rd August at 11.45am.

24th July - Roger Evans, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy (sub for Mike Hatley) & Carl Frostick used their 'get out of jail card free' last night as they won through to the East Herts Bowls League Fours Semi Finals. Playing on an awful Shire Park green, they were 7 shots down with just 2 ends to play - and promptly picked up a 3 and a 5 to win by 1 shot. Well done lads.
Buntingford have previously won the Bowls League Fours - but this dates back as far as 1924 & 1925, so we wish the lads well nearly 100 years on from those successes!

23rd July - Buntingford Ladies lead the way at the halfway stage in Division A of the County League East after 2 wins in their first 3 games. Well done Ladies and keep it going......

23rd July - Buntingford's Men fell short in their Quarter Final match against Bishop's Stortford in the County Club Championship (3x Fours). Two rinks were close but unfortunately one rink went down by 10 shots (sorry). This is the furthest the club have gone in this competition in the Clubs history.
The team was:
Ross Murphy, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling & Mark Plume.
Stan Keen, Peter Warren, Bryan Davies & Carl Frostick.

Roger Evans, Mick Marks, Vic Greenberg & Dave Murphy.

21st July - Mick Marks was the winner of the Fi xed Jack competition with John Collins as Runner Up (again). 26 Members entered on a hot sunny day. Rosemary Webber & June Renney provided an excellent lunch, and thanks also go to Roger Evans & Bryan Davies for squeezing 7 rinks into the green. Ellen Amos won the 'Spider' on the day and thank you to everyone that donated raffle prizes.

20th July - Roger Evans, Bryan Davies (Subbing for Scott Wake), Dave Murphy & Carl Frostick cruised into the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Fours after a 27-10 win at Rosehill against Malcolm Songer. Well done lads.

20th July - Buntingford still have strong representatives in the East Herts Bowls League Competitions as we reach the Quarter Final Stage:
Fours -
Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Tony Keeling & Dave Murphy
Pairs - Ross Murphy & Bryan Davies, Greg Amos & Dave Murphy
Mixed Pairs - Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy
We wish them all well in their upcoming matches.

19th July - The EHBA Clean Sweep is still on (no pressure then Bunty Boys).
We're down to the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals in most of the EHBA Competitions and Buntingford still have representatives in all 10 competitions. The EHBA Finals Day this year is being held at our home club and  we wish all of our Buntingford Members well as they push for places in the Finals.

18th July - Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume now know their opponents for their first round match at Leamington Spa in the Bowls England National Triples Championships - and I think it's going to be quite a game......
They face a triple from Buckinghamshire that include a current England International player. Two of the players have won a National title, and the other has been a National Runner Up on m ore than one occasion.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.........

18th July - There have been some thumping wins for Buntingford Bowls Club this season across a number of competitions. The 'Club Record Wins' page has now been updated.

17th July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after a comfortable victory against Cheshunt 52-21.
Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Carl Frostick won 27-8

16th July - Buntingford's Men got their County League campaign underway with a thumping win at Datchworth. On two very tricky rinks the Bunty Boys notched up a massive 56-13 victory.
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 37-4
Roger Evans, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won 19-9

14th July - Part Two of 'Super-Saturday' was oh so close...........
At the halfway stage of the Bowls England Tony Allcock Trophy at Rosedale the Buntingford Team led by 9 shots across the two rinks, only to be pegged back and over taken towards the end. With just a couple of ends to play Buntingford were just 4 shots adrift and it was still anybody's to win. But Rosedale killed an end and then picked up shots. Despite a great effort by the team Buntingford bowed out of the competition at the Last 32 stage nationally. The team created Buntingford history along the way and deserve a lot of credit for reaching this far into the competition - a first for the club.

Phil Geere, Chris Hatley, Dinah Geere & Vic Greenberg 19-19
Debbie Marks, Val Moules, Mike Hatley & Tony Keeling 11-19
Thank you to the 10 supporters that turned up to cheer the team on, and to
Roger for keeping some members up to date of the match scores via text during every end of the game.

14th July - Part One of 'Super-Saturday' is complete after Buntingford's Men thumped Bovingdon in the Bowls England National Two Fours 59-25.
The win now puts the club into the Last 32 in England and is the first time in the Club's History they have reached this stage. This win is also the joint second highest winning margin in this competition for the Bunty Boys.

Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender won 24-12. Dave Murphy, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 35-13.
Well done lads and we wish you well in your Last 32 match against the Bedfordshire qualifiers Houghton Regis. The date of this match is still to be confirmed.

14th July - Elsewhere this morning Hertfordshire travelled to Norfolk for their 5th League match out of 6 in the Eastern Counties League. Hertfordshire won the match against Norfolk and now cannot be caught at the top of the league and are therefore crowned CHAMPIONS. Playing in the previous league games were Buntingford's Dave Murphy, Peter Warren, Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume. Well done to the Bunty Boys.

A big day for Buntingford Bowls Club on Saturday 14th July:
Buntingford's Men play in the Hertfordshire Area Final and for a place in the Last 32 of the Country in the National Club Two Fours at home 9.30am.
And later that day at 6pm
Buntingford play for a place in the Last 16 of the Country as they take on Rosedale (away) in the National Tony Allcock Trophy.
Please come along and support your club. Thank you.

6th July - Congratulations to Dinah Geere for making it through to the Quarter Finals of the EHDWBA Singles with a 21-13 victory after storming 11-2 in front early on. By my records no Lady Member from Butingford has reached this far into the competition and we wish Dinah well in her next match.

4th July - Brian Bushell would like to express his sincere thanks to everyone for their generous donations in memory of his late wife Joan. A grand total of £1000 will be shared equally between the two nominated charities, Isabel Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care both of whom provided wonderful support.

2nd July - A unique result in the latest EHBL Buntingford Bears match with both rinks drawing. Both came back from losing positions with one rink 16-3 behind and the other 11-1 behind. Well done team.

2nd July - The latest edition of the Buntingford Bowls Club Newsletter has been uploaded to the website.

1st July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Hertfordshire Area Final of the Bowls England National Two Fours. The win against Potten End by 43-20 takes the club into the Last 64 Nationally. The rink of Ross Murphy, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender had a low scoring game and after 14 ends only 15 shots has been scored in total. A few ends later and they finished winning 15-9. The rink of Roger Evans, Peter Warren, Scott Wake & Mark Plume also had a tight game and after 18 ends both sides had won 9 ends each. However, in those 9 ends they only dropped 11 shots, and scored 28. Well done lads.

29th June - Buntingford's Men finished just 2 shots short of scoring a new highest record win in the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy. Peter Warren, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won 22-12 away at Hertford, and Ross Murphy, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick won 31-5 at Buntingford. Well done lads.

27th June - Roger Evans, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick joined 2 other Buntingford Triples into the EHBA Quarter Finals after a comfortable victory against a triple from Ware.

26th June - Dave Murphy's fine run to the Last 16 of the County Singles came to an end after a close game.

24th June - Congratulations to Buntingford as they march on in the Tony Allcock Trophy after a 34-30 victory against Potten End. The win now puts the club into the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire Area Semi Finals and the Last 64 in the Country. Well done - and you're now just 3 wins from reaching the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa!
A tough encounter now awaits as the team face Sandy Conservative Bowls Club in their next game and we wish the team all the best.

24th June - Buntingford Bowls Club hosted the EHBA match against North West Essex and thank you to everyone that supported on the day. A couple of photograph's below show our Club Chairman handing over the green to the Presidents of both Asssociations - and this is the award you'll get for finishing as the highest losing rink........ A great funny momento of the day....

23rd June - Hertfordshire rounded off their Middleton Cup campaign with a rather flat and lackluster performance against Norfolk. The Team Manager had made number of positional changes and had bought new personel into the team from the previous week - and I'm afraid it just didn't work as the players didn't really buy into it and it resulted in a heavy defeat. The team did win on 2 rinks and Carl Frostick was on one of those winning rinks having played against former World Champion Mervyn King. Carl Frostick was playing in his 50th game for Hertfordshire and many congratulations on reaching this milestone.
Mark Plume came up against World Indoor Semi Finalist Wayne Willgress and went down to a heavy defeat.
Over the 4 Middleton Cup games this season
Carl Frostick won 3 out of his 4 games, Mark Plume won 2 out of his 4 games and Garry Warrender won 1 of his 3 games. Thank you once again to the supporters that turned up at Welwyn & District Bowls Club to cheer the team on. It is much appreciated.

22nd June - Buntingford's Men snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after going down against Oak Hill in the County Team Ten Compeition. With the Singles and Pairs both winning, it came down to the Triples and Fours - but unfortunately both went down by more shots that Singles & Pairs had won by. The match score finished 2-2, but Oak Hill progressed by 3 shots overall.

On Friday 22nd June at 8.45am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club website stood at 43200.

20th June - Mick Marks fine run to the Last 16 of the Hertfordshire County Unbadged Singles came to an end after a fantastic battle at Welwyn Garden City. Mick put up a great fight going down just 21-18. Hard luck.
Dinah Geere also bowed out at the Last 16 stage after a fine run in the competition.

20th June - Buntingford's Men came through a tough test against Much Hadham in the EHBA Thurgood Cup to book their place into the Quarter Finals of the competition. Well done lads.

20th June - Greg Amos & Dave Murphy came through their second round match of the EHBL Pairs away at Welwyn & District. This match was due to be played at home, but a full green meant they had to travel to their oppponents. Well done both of you.

19th June - Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender won the battle of Buntingford in the County Pairs after an extra end victory against Scott Wake & Carl Frostick. This win takes the Bunty Boys into the Last 16 of the competition and we wish them all the best.

18th June - Dave Murphy is into the last 16 of the County Singles. Well done and we wish you well in the next round.

17th June - Congratulations to former member Peter Agnew on his qualification for the Bowls England National Championships.
Our 'Aggers', playing for his new club Luton Town has reached the Bedfordshire County Fours Final. We wish him all the best at Leamington Spa in August.

17th June - Buntingford's Men have made it through to the 4th Round of the National Two Fours after victory against Whitethorn on what can only be described in polite terms as a 'very tricky green'. Well done lads.

16th June - Hertfordshire travelled to Suffolk in their latest Middleton Cup Game and unfortunately the result didn't fully justify the high quality bowls that were on show.
Garry Warrender, on his rink raced into a 9 shot lead early on, but was pegged back and fell to a 6 shot defeat. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume had a close encounter all the way through their game and despite the last end being killed twice, they went down but just 3 shots. The atmosphere was excellent with lots of noise coming from the players, and from those watching from the sidelines. A big thank you to the supporters that travelled to cheer on the team.

15th June - Buntingford's Men battled past Sele Farm in the County Club Championship (Three Fours Competition) to reach the Last 16 of the competition.

14th June - Three Buntingford Pairs have made it through to the Last 32 of the County Pairs competition. Peter Warren & Bryan Davies have made it through - and our other two pairs now have to play each other. Carl Frostick & Scott Wake will take on Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender.

13th June - Great news for Mick Marks as he battles through to the last 16 of the Hertfordshire County Unbadged Singles with a 21-15 victory. We wish Mick all the best in the next round.

13th June - A win for the Bunty Girls of Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere in the first round of the EHDWBA Triples 20-15 at Sawbridgeworth. Well done.

13th June - Dave Murphy (subbing for Roger Evans) and partner Debbie Marks came through their first round match of the EHBL Mixed Pairs 20-12. But wait......... News just in........ A technicality means that the match has now been awarded to their opponents....... Oops!

12th June - Newcomer Dave Murphy remains our only hope in the Mens County Singles as he is the lone survivor...... Dave had a relatively easy win last night and we wish him well in the next round.

11th June - Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy comfortably won through their EHBL Pairs. Well done.

10th June - Congratulations to our Buntingford Team as they have won their latest match in the Tony Allcock Trophy. This is a Senior Mixed Two Fours competition and they progressed with victory against Sawbridgeworth 42-34.
Never before have Buntingford gone as far in this competition, and this win puts our Buntingford Team into the 4th Round of the competition and we wish then all the best in their next match.

10th June - Well done to Carl Frostick as he won through to the nxt round of the EHBA Singles with a 21-9 victory against Sawbridgeworth's Nick Goff.

10th June - Hertfordshire took on Cambridgeshire in the Balcomb Trophy (Top Two Fours) and Buntingford's Mark Plume was skipping one of those rinks - and unfortunately got battered! It wasn't to be on their rink as the opposition totally outplayed the Hertfordshire rink. The other Hertfordshire rink did win, and even though it did come down to the last bowl of the game, Hertfordshire didn't progress to the next round.
Once again a big thank you to the
Buntingford supporters that showed up to cheer the lads on.

9th June - Matthew & Ross Murphy's run in the National Family Pairs came to an end at the 3rd Round stage against a very experienced pair at Garston. This is only the second time Buntingford have had an entry in this competition and after receiving a Bye in the first round, and winning their second round match comfortably, they have created history by going further than anyone else from Buntingford in this competition. Well done to both of you.

9th June - Hertfordshire took on Huntingdonshire at Welwyn & District bowls club in their latest Middleton Cup match. The Hunts team contained World Champion Nick Brett and a number of England Champions and Internationals - but they were no match for the Hertfordshire team as they ran out winners 16 points to 6, and by 23 shots. (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for winning the match overall).
Garry Warrrender did face former World Champion Nick Brett on his rink and they didn't really recover from a slow start and went down by a few shots.
Carl Frostick & Mark Plume faced the current National Triples holder and from 16-9 down, picked up a 6 and a 5 in consecutive ends and never looked back to win 27-16.
Thank you to the
Buntingford supporters that came to watch.

8th June - Even more headlines made this time in the EHBL Pairs. Greg Amos was our headline maker...... This was his first victory of the season. Well done Greg. And thanks to partner Dave Murphy.

8th June - Following on from the big headlines the evening before, another headline was made in the EHBA Triples game involving Roger Evans, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick at Bishop's Stortford. Winning the game wasn't the headline (well done lads by the way), but one of the Clubs coaches that helps the potential new members to Buntingford Bowls Club, and helps coach the Junior Bowlers from Hertfordshire showed everyone how not to do it - by bowling a wrong bias! Thanks for the memories Roger.

7th June - A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 'BUNTY BOYS'!!!
CARL FROSTICK, SCOTT WAKE & MARK PLUME HAVE REACHED THE HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY TRIPLES FINAL AND BOOKED THEIR PLACE AT THE BOWLS ENGLAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LEAMINGTON SPA.

On a terrible green and a terrible rink at Hatfield the semi final wasn't going to be an easy game. The boys did however go into a 15-5 lead just after halfway through the game, but on that rink anything was possible - and it was. Heavy wood after heavy wood, pieces of luck here and there from the opposition saw the Jack and woods pinging anywhere and everywhere, and that saw the Bunty Boys drop shots and the Ware team clawed their way back.
15-5 became 16-9 with 3 ends to play. Holding 3 shots with just one wood to come and the match could have been all over but another piece of luck saw them drop a single shot after 2 wicks!. Next end and again no luck saw them drop a 2 and it was 16-12 going into the last end. Holding 2 after Burnsy had bowled and then there was another heavy wood from the opposing number two and with it came another piece of luck and it saw the Bunty Boys go 3 shots down. Wakey draws shot and whack - out it goes for 4 down! Plummie then draws the shot - and then whack! The shot goes out of the head and its 3 down this time. One wood to come from the Ware skip and he couldn't move anything this time. A huge sigh of relief and the Bunty Boys took a tactical 3 down to win the match by 1 shot. Well done lads!
Thank you for the support from
Roger Evans, Peter Warrren, Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg and our faithful regulars Ellen & Greg Amos.

In 2015 the Bunty Boys reached the National Triples Semi Finals, and this year their first round match will be played on Thursday 23rd August 9.30am at Leamington Spa against a Triple from Buckinghamshire.
Supporters are very welcome.

6th June - Wins for 4 Buntingford Pairs and into the 3rd Round of the County Pairs go Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg & Mark Plume, Peter Warren & Bryan Davies and Carl Frostick & Scott Wake. Well done lads.

5th June - The 'Two Murphy's' and Garry Warrender are the survivors for Buntingford in the County Singles as they progressed with wins. Well done to Ross, Dave & Garry.
There was disappointment for Tony Keeling, Mark Plume and Dinah Geere as they all had a bad day at the office.

5th June - Bryan Davies progressed to the next round of the EHBA Singles after a fine victory against David Hunt from Bishop's Stortford.

4th June - Mark Plume has won through to the next round of the National Champion of Champions after a 21-18 victory at Garston Bowls Club against Jerry Rumball.

4th June - Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender won the battle of Buntingford against Scott Wake & Carl Frostick in the EHBA Pairs 25-20. Detectives are still looking into the evidence of how one of Burnsy's woods disappeared and then re-appeared suddenly at the other end of the green.......

4th June - It is with sad news to announce the passing of Joan Bushell.
Joan had been a member of the club for a number of years and in her time was a 2-time Club Champion winning the Williams Singles in 2014, and the Ladies Four Wood Pairs in 2016. Thoughts are with Brian and family at this difficult time.

3rd June - Buntingford's Men progressed to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Two Fours competition with victory against Welwyn & District Bowls Club 44-26. The rink of Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender were convincing winners 26-11, whereas Ross Murphy, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume had a much closer game winning by just 1 shot 16-15.
We are sure that Scott Wake did infact turn up and play because we vaguely remember him having 1 good wood - but we're still waiting for confirmation on that..........
# Saving himself for the County Triples Semi Finals later this week.

3rd June - The weekend bowlers of Buntingford had a very enjoyable trip to Cheshunt Bowls Club. It was nice to see Jan & David Ward, and Derek Edgson playing on the green which also saw Dave Baxter return to his old club.

3rd June - Congratulations to Mark Plume as he has been selected in the Hertfordshire Balcomb Trophy squad to face Cambridgeshire at Wewlyn & District Bowls Club on Sunday 10th June at 10am.
The Balcomb Trophy is a National 2 rink competition and to be selected in this squad of just 10 players is a real honour.

3rd June - The latest edition of the Buntingford Bowls Club Newsletter has been uploaded to this website.

2nd June - Hertfordshire took on Northamptonshire at Kingsthorpe Bowls Club in their first Middelton Cup match - and what an unusual result it was! Hertfordshire won on 4 rinks, drew on another and lost on one - but lost the match overall but 12 shots and 13 points to 9 (2 points for a winning rink, 1 for a draw and 10 points for the overall score). Unfortunately one rink lost 32-7.
Garry Warrender had an excellent game and was never behind on the scoreboard. Playing third on his rink they won 21-17. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume faced former England International and multi National Champion Paul Broderick, and after being 15-8 down mid-way through the game they clawed their way back. However they went into the last end 20-23, and then picked up a four to win on their rink by 1 shot.

A massive thank you to our faithful supporters
Ellen & Greg Amos for travelling a long way to support the Hertfordshire Team and the Buntingford players.

1st June - Kings Langley travelled a long way to Buntingford for the latest round of the County Top Ten competition and Burnsy made sure it was worth their while.......
1-0 up after the singles had finished and the Pairs and Triples were in total control. The Fours were a bit behind but Buntingford were cruising into the next round - or so we thought.
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg & Carl Frostick decided to make it a bit more interesting than that.......
They were 12-0 up and then 15-1 up - surely it was just a matter of time before they shook hands. But then the weather changed and from 15-1 up they started to get pegged back, and then were overtaken, and then finished 17-19 down, Oops!
So the match finished with 2 wins for each side, and Buntingford progressed to the last 16 in Hertfordshire on shot countback. Well done lads.

31st May - The Bunty Boys romped into the Semi Finals of the County Triples after winning their quarter final match 24-11 against a trio from Potters Bar. The green at Cheshunt was (now how can I put this politely.....) was not fitting to hold the County Triples Quarter Finals! Once the boys had put their arms back in their sockets after the trial ends they never looked back. They raced into an 11-1 lead, then 16-4 at 9 ends and it was all but over.
This now puts
Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume just 1 game from reaching the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington.

The County Triples Semi Finals will be played at Hatfield Bowls Club on Thursday 7th June at 6pm. The Bunty Boys will take on R Carter, Graham Indge & Vic Goodey from Ware.

Please come along and support your club. Thank you

29th May - Dinah Geere & Ross Murphy came so close to victory in the Bowls England National Mixed Pairs as they faced former England Under 25 Junior International and former Buntingford Bowls Club member Matt Coppen, and current England Under 25 Junior International Rachel Tremlett from Royston.
At 11-1 down the match could have been all over early on, but Dinah and Ross dug deep to pull back and take the lead 16-13. They were then pegged back to 17-17 after 21 ends and unfortunately went down on the 'Extra End'.
A great game and hard luck.

29th May - A new pairing of Mike Hatley & Dave Murphy that were put together at the last minute came through a tough encounter in the Hertfordshire County Pairs against Middleton Cup Trialist Arron Prowle from Datchworth 20-18. Well done.

28th May - A great start for 'The Murphy's' as they have comfortably won through their 1st round match against Bovingdon in the National Family Pairs. Well done to Matthew for playing his first competitive match in a great win.

26th May - Buntingford's Men narrowly lost against Hemel Hempstead in the National Top Club Competition. Wins for Carl Frostick in the Singles and Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender in the Pairs, but narrow defeats in the Two Wood Singles, Triples & Fours.

25th May - Buntingford's Men won through to the next round of the County Club Championship after winning on 2 rinks and drawing on the other against Ware. Well done Lads.

24th May - The Bunty Girls bow out as the Bunty Boys go marching on:
Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos & Roxana Clifton's fine run to the Last 16 of the Hertfordshire County Triples came to an end on the last end against Northaw & Cuffley. Hard luck Ladies. Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume recovered from 3-1 down to win 16-5 and reach the Hertfordshire County Triples Quarter Finals. Well done lads.

24th May - It's official - The Buntingford Bears top East Herts Bowls League Division Two with 3 wins out of 3. The Buntingford Bulls are mid-table in Division Three after just 2 games.

23rd May - The Buntingford Bears just keep on winning......

 -
Roxana Clifton went down by just 1 shot 21-20 in the Unbadged Singles
 -
Vic Greenberg didn't have the rub of the green at Sawbridgeworth.....

22nd May - Former member Norman Cook lost his battle with illness today. Norman was a Buntingford Bowls Club member in the late 70's, and then his son Stuart joined in the mid-80's followed by his wife Jean in the 2000's. Thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

22nd May - The Fun Photo's page has been revamped and updated. The best way to view these is to click on 'Show all', and then start the slide show.

21st May - Some good results for Buntingford Bowls Club players:
 -
Mark Plume won 21-12 on a very good green at Northaw & Cuffley in the National Champion of Champions.
 -
Vic Greenberg won through to the next round of the EHBA Singles at Hertford also winning 21-12
-
Buntingford won their first round match in the National 'Tony Allcock' Trophy (2x Mixed Fours) winning on both rinks against Stevenage 28-19 & 19-18.
 -
Dinah Geere is through to the last 16 of the County Unbadged Singles winning 21-13 against Eileen Walker from Sawbridgeworth. This is only the second time in the Clubs history that we have a representative from the club in the last 16 of the County Ladies Unbadged Singles. We wish Dinah well.

21st May - New photographs have been added to the EHBA Finals Gallery.

20th May - A 'HOTSHOT' for Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick as they romped into the next round of the EHBA Mixed Pairs winning 30-13

19th May - Four Buntingford players took their place on a very fast green in the latest Eastern Counties League match as Hertfordshire took on Cambridgeshire at Welwyn & District Bowls Club. Peter Warren was making his County debut on what was probably the trickiest rink. They pushed their opponents close but just fell short in the end. Dave Murphy's rink had a big lead early on, then were pegged back to level scores but pushed on and ran out winners by 11 shots. Carl Frostick's rink were never behind and were comfortable winners by 10 shots. Mark Plume was drawn to play against their England International Skip with the match very tight throughout. With Mark's last bowl to play the rink trailled 18-20 on the scoreboard, and were 3 down at the head. Mark then played the perfect bowl to trail the Jack to pick up the 3 shots and win the match 21-20.
Hertfordshire won the match overall by 18 points to 4, and now top the Eastern Counties League with 3 wins out of their 3 matches played.
This game counted towards Middleton Cup selection with the team being picked after the next Eastern Counties League match on the 26th May. 7 of our Buntingford players are in contention and we wish them all well.

18th May - Buntingford's Men cruised into Round Two of the County Top Team competition with a 4-0 win against Riverain. The Singles and Triples were pushed close, but the Pairs and Fours ran out comfortable winners. Well done lads. And a big thank you to Rosemary Webber for an excellent meal.

17th May - 2 wins from 2 games in their new Division in the East Herts Bowls League for the Buntingford Bears. A great start.

16th May - Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos & Roxana Clifton became only the second ever Ladies Team from Buntingford to reach the last 16 of the County Triples after an excellent win against the Ladies from Bishop's Stortford. Well done to the Bunty Girls.

16th May - Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won the battle of Buntingford in the County Triples as they defeated Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender 22-6 to reach the last 16.

14th May - Well done to Dinah Geere & Ross Murphy in the Natiional Mixed Pairs after they came through a tough encounter against Hoddesdon & Rye Park. After 11 ends only 12 shots had been scored, but 8 shots in the next 4 ends saw the Buntingford Pair go 13-7 in front. They were pegged back to 13-13 with just 2 ends to play but held their nerve to go through to the next round 17-13. Well done.

12th May - Garry Warrender celebrated his 100th game for Hertfordshire with victory in the Eastern Counties League Match against Huntingdonshire. Ross Murphy was also part of the winning team. Hertfordshire have now started their Eastern Counties League campaign with 2 wins out of 2.

12th May - Despite the rain, Buntingford recorded a narrow win against Allenbury's in their latest Friendly match. Thanks to those that played - and got wet.

11th May - Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrrender won the battle of Buntingford after an excellent 23-20 win against Ross Murphy, Bryan Davies (Subbing for Scott Wake), Carl Frostick & Mark Plume. Well done and well played.

11th May - Wins for Jenny & Rick Brown in the EHBL Mixed Pairs, and for Roger Evans, Mike Hatley & Dave Murphy in the EHBL Triples. Well done all.

10th May - Three Buntingford Triples have moved into the Last 32 of the Hertfordshire County Triples. Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos & Roxana Clifton recovered from an 8-0 deficit after just 2 ends to win 20-18. Stan Keen (Subbing for Scott Wake), Carl Frostick & Mark Plume recovered from 8-3 down to win 21-10. And it was slightly more comfortable for Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender as they finished up winning by nearly 20 shots. Garry's Triple will now play Mark's triple in the next round.

6th May - Back at Welwyn & District Bowls Club again this morning for the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Trial. The County were very open and said that from the Hertfordshire team that reached the Middleton Cup Quarter Finals last year, there are a minimum of 5 places up for grabs in this years Squad. A very open approach which lifted all those vying for a place.
51 players took to the green including 7 players from Buntingford Bowls Club. The Middleton Cup Team will be picked at the end of May and we wish our Trialists all the best:
Carl Frostick, Dave Murphy, Garry Warrender, Mark Plume, Peter Warrren, Ross Murphy and Vic Greenberg.

5th May - Mark Plume made his Hertfordshire Senior County debut on the 11th May 1996, today 22 years on he celebrated playing his 150th game for Hertfordshire with a win on his rink by 5 shots. On a hot sunny morning Hertfordshire took on Essex in the Eastern Counties League at Welwyn & District Bowls Club and won the overall match comfortably. Dave Murphy was also representing Buntingford in his first game for his new club and came up against the 2017 Bowls England Player of the Year Ed Morris. After a very tight match his rink went down by 1 shot on the very last end.

5th May - Buntingford hosted Hoddesdon Rosehill in the clubs first home Friendly match of the season and kicked off with a win.

4th May - I am trialling something new by publishing our Club Newsletters onto this website. Please click on the 'Club Newsletters' menu page for your latest news. Thank you

3rd May - Debbie Marks, Gwen Beale, Ellon Amos & Roxana Clifton came through a tough County Fours Match against Northaw & Cuffley on the extra end. With the scores tied, the Bunty Girls scored a 3 to take them through to the next round. Well done.

2nd May - Peter Warren & Vic Greenberg beat a Pair from Bishop's Stortford after a close game in the 1st Round of the EHBA Pairs 22-20.

2nd May - Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling & Mark Plume were 6 shots behind with 5 ends to play in their EHBA Triples 1st Round Match at Bishop's Stortford, but came through on the last end to win 15-13.

Some Indoor news just in:
Success for Buntingford Bowls Club at Riverain Bowls Club as the squad of Mike Hatley, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Brian Bushell, Rick Brown & John Collins won the Wednesday Afternoon Winter League. A close title race saw 2 teams finish on the same points, but the Bunty Boys won the League by virtue of a greater shot difference. Well done lads.

29th April - On a freezing cold day, Roger Evans & Eddie Plume were joined by former England International Captain John Rednall as they coached the Hertfordshire Under 25 Team at Bishop's Stortford. I don't think people realise how much time and effort goes into organising a day like this and thank you to Roger & Eddie. Throughout the day different coaching sessions were in operation and then there were 3 separate sessions where some of the Under 25 team took on some of the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team to give them some valuable practice. Mark Plume was involved in those games across the whole of the day.

28th April - The Friendly season got underway on a damp afternoon at Sawbridgeworth and there was a 1 shot victory for the Buntingford Team. Well done.

28th April - So I was asked at work this what what I was doing at the weekend? I told them that its the first bowls games of the new season. To which came the response "So thats why its raining then!".
I'm sure the sun will come back out eventually...... Happy bowling everybody.

The '
Club History' page has been updated with more information about our great club.

22nd April - And the first game got underway as 36 players took to the green for the Annual Spoon Drive. The winner was Ray Bedborough, with Marion Maher and Ross Murphy winning the 'Spider'. The sun shone, and then there was a downpour but everyone was now up and running for the season. A big thank you to Liz Cooper and all of the helpers on the day.

21st April - The Sun was shining as the clubhouse opened for the start of the new outdoor season. Just under 40 members were in attendance cleaning, cutting, clearing and carrying something to get the club ready for the first game the following day. Both inside and outside the clubhouse were given a  makeover and considering the rain, snow and more rain we'd had over the last few weeks the green was in good shape. Thank you to everyone that gave up their time to support their club.

On Monday 23rd April at 1.40pm the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club website stood at 41349.
There have been 1899 views so far in 2018 averaging 17 views every single day. Thank you so much.

Please take the time and famliarise yourself with our club Buntingford.
Thank you.

14th April - The annual pre-season social took place last night. The food was of it's usual high standard and good fun was had by all - and everyone especially enjoyed Mike Grimsdale's version of 'play your cards right'. The night was a lovely opportunity to meet up with fellow bowlers after the winter. And the sun shone for what seemed like the first time this year and the green looked superb. With the new alterations to the surrounds recently completed, it made everyone want to have a roll-up there and then.
Not long now folks - just a week to go........

14th April - A reminder to all members that the club opens on Saturday morning (21st April) and we would be grateful if all members could lend an hour or 2 and come down from 10.00am to get the Clubhouse and surrounds ready for the start of the Outdoor season.
You'll all then have the opportunity to roll your first woods towards the Jack on Sunday (22nd) in the first Spoon Drive of the season.

Please come along and support your club. Thank you.

In the early days exact records weren't kept so this number may well be even more.......

18th February - Is it a record? Has history been created at Buntingford Bowls Club? It might just be.........
Buntingford aren't known as an Indoor Bowls Club, but they travel throughout the winter to visit clubs to keep their bowling arms in ready for the outdoor season. And on the odd occasion we may have 1 winning rink, maybe even two, or an outside chance of winning on three rinks - but to win a game is virtually impossible. However take a look at this:

                               Hatfield_Indoor_v_Buntingford_18th_Feb_2018
Phil Geere, Jenny Newington, Charles Oates & Dinah Geere Won 39-10
Carol Cain, Ray Beborough, Chris Hatley & Ross Murphy Won 27-18
Jim Jaycock, Grace Gibbs, Dave Clifton & Mike Hatley 12-25
Mary Smith, Frank Beale, Roxana Clifton, John Collins 17-32

26th January - Sad news to announce the passing of 2 of our former members. Barry Gravett was only at the club for a short time with his wife Sue, and Alan Wall a former Two Wood Pairs Champion has also passed on. Thoughts are with friends and Family.
                       Barry Gravett                            Alan Wall

20th January - It is with sad regret to announce the passing of Harry Brant.
Harry was probably the oldest member to ever grace the Buntingford Bowls Club green, and what a character he really was. Harry would like to deliver his wood with a 'clap', and always had a quirk or a funny comment to make about the game he was playing in. Harry was also the subject of a Hertfordshire Mercury column report that mentioned Bowls is a sport for all ages.
Harry was the winner of the Club Two Wood Pairs competition twice, and finished up as Runner Up in 4 other club competitions. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

1st January 2018
So, did we beat the record for most visitors to this website in a Calendar Year? ...............It was so, so close, but we didn't quite make it.
We need to spread the word more in 2018
We have a great Bowls Club with great members achieving so many fantastic things both on and off the green. Increasing visitors to this website will help increase our profile across Hertfordshire and no other Club has the values of 'A Club for all Ages, Abilities and Aspirations'. This is such a powerful message, so please share.
Increasing our Profile through this website and through our new Facebook page will help promote our club and maybe attract more Sponsors bringing more revenue to the club. If you send me in your news stories, i'll publish them on this website. If you send me in your photograph's, i'll publish them on this website. If you send me any information on upcoming events, i'll publish them on this website.
Please can all members support in raising the external profile of the Club as I can't do all of this alone. Thank you.

26th October -  We said goodbye to this lovely lady today - Jenny Hawes.
A fantastic turnout with standing room only shows just how much Jenny will be missed. Many people travelled a long way to pay their respects and raise a glass or two. Thank you to
Buntingford Bowls Club for hosting the event after Jenny was laid to rest, and a massive thank you to all of those individuals that helped make it such a special occasion. We are very grateful.
And of course
Eddie Plume we all know how much of a big part you played in her life.

25th October - More updates across this website:
The
Club Records page has been updated with new records added.
The
Club Honours page has been updated further.

22nd October - Well they say it's the taking part that counts....... Buntingford made the trip to Hatfield Bowls Club for their annual Indoor friendly match. After 7 ends across the boards Buntingford hadn't scored a single shot on 3 of the 4 rinks. But was all that to change after the tea break? Ammmmmm - No!
One of the rinks skipped by
Dinah Geere did battle back and go in front for a couple of ends but were overtaken in the second half of the game. The rink skipped by Charles Oates had a close encounter and only went down by a couple of shots. And as for the rinks skipped by Roger Evans and Mark Plume - maybe they should have just stayed at home! Roll on the Outdoor season.....

8th October - Jayne Plume ran the London Parks half Marathon at Hyde Park raising money for MacMillon in aid of Jenny Hawes and her Dad. I am pleased to say that she survived the race and thank you to generous donations from Buntingford Bowls Club Members past and present, members from other Clubs, and friends & family, Jayne has raised a whopping £922 so far. Barclays Bank are matching this amount under their 'Pound for Pound' scheme which means £1844 has been raised to date in Jenny's honour. I am sure Jenny would have been very proud of this achievement.
It was an emotional day and Jayne would like to thank you all as she has been overwhelmed by your support. A couple of photo's below showing the photograph Jayne had put on her running top - and proof that she lived to tell the tale!

It is not too late to donate and the below link will take you to her Just Giving Page. Thank you all once again.

Then back to Buntingford Bowls Club after the Service.
Family flowers only. Donations to the British Heart Foundation.

4th October - It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the sad passing of Jenny Hawes after a long battle with illness.

Jenny was our Club President this year and also became the first ever Buntingford Bowls Club Member to take on the role EHDWBA President. Although Jenny was unable to take full office and fulfil many of her duties, Jenny did whatever she could to support both Club and the Association.

During her 20 years as a Buntingford Bowls Club member, Jenny also served as Ladies Captain, Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for our club Buntingford.

On the field of play Jenny is a Club ‘Grand Slammer’ after winning all four major club competitions, and is currently ranked high in the clubs history for the total number of Competitions won.

Over the last 15 years Jenny formed a unique friendship with Eddie Plume and they did everything together. They travelled, they ate, they wined, they went to shows - and they ate and wined some more….. and of course they became the very best of friends.

Thoughts are with Eddie, friends and Family.

30th September - The season drew to a close with the Annual Captain versus Captain match. It didn't rain which was a bonus and great fun was had by all that attended. The members even survived the Bunty boys being in the kitchen led by John & Zoe Powell serving an excellent meal. A couple of photo's below show that 2 of our members really did get into the spirit of the day which was great to see:

 - We've had confirmation that Peter Agnew has bowled his last wood for the club after he confirmed he has joined Luton Town Bowls Club.
 - During his 4 years at Buntingford Peter joined the history books and had great success winning 3 Hertfordshire County Championships (HB County League, HB County Unbadged Singles and the HB County Pairs) - and he qualified for the Bowls England National Championships on two separate occasions.
 - Peter played at the highest level for Hertfordshire in the Middleton Cup and he was part of the Hertfordshire Team that won the Eastern Counties League in 2016 - all representing his club Buntingford.
 - Peter had success at East Herts level winning the EHBA Pairs, the EHBA Thurgood Cup and the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy.
- Peter won 3 club competitions at Buntingford including the Club Handicap Singles. He also reached the Club Championship Singles Final.

           'Super Sunday' for Buntingford
                  on EHBA Finals Day

3rd September -

EHBA Two Wood Pairs Champions:
A great start to the day with Ross Murphy & Scott Wake coming from behind to win the match 20-15.
EHBA Thurgood Cup Champions:
The Thurgood Cup Final against Bishop's Stortford was a close affair with the team going behind at the half way stage, and with 9 ends to go across the two rinks the Bunty Boys were 9 shots down. But what a turn around as the team ran out winners by 7 shots. The Rink of Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender went down 21-27, and the rink of Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick & Mark Plume won 27-17.
EHBA Officers Singles Champion:
It was then the turn of Bryan Davies to take to the stage and after a tight battle he came through to win 21-17.
EHBA Singles Runner Up:
Garry Warrender was involved in another tight battle but unfortunately his opponent just got the better of him in a close game.
EHBA Fours Champions:
Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake took to the green on a very tricky rink that was full of divots. The lads were always in front and finished up winning 21-13.
EHBA Champion of Champions Runner Up:
The late session saw Scott Wake take to the green and this was a nail-biting game that went down to the wire. Scott led early but was eventually pegged back to 20-20. Unfortunately the last end didn't go Scott's way.
EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy Champions:
This was the last match up for Buntingford and after a close game early on, Buntingford ran out winners by 10 shots. Peter Warren, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume won 20-16, and Bryan Davies, Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick won 21-15.
Buntingford have now won the 'EHBA Club Double' for the second year in succession (Winning both the Thurgood Cup & Lyndhurst Trophy in the same season). Well done to all of the players.

A big thank you to those
Buntingford supporters that came and supported the players at various stages throughout the day. It got a bit chilly towards the end and that's when some started to drift away, but your support is very much appreciated. Thank you.

And we still have another EHBA Final to be played. The
EHBA Triples Final will be played on Sunday 10th September at 4pm at Buntingford Bowls Club and willl be: Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender versus Roger Evans, Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick.

3rd September - The Final EHBL Tables have been published and we have confirmation that the Buntingford Bears are the EHBL Division Three Champions and win the 'Buntingford Cup' The Buntingford Bulls didn't do too badly either and came a very creditable 4th. Well done to all of the players that represented Buntingford throughout the season in both Teams. The top half of the table is published below:

3rd September - The Annual 'Beale Cup' took place at Buntingford and this pits the Buntingford Bears up against the Buntingford Bulls for bragging rights and to decide who really is the best EHBL team...... Four games of Triples were played that went down to the wire with shot difference coming into play. The match finished 2 games all - and the winners by 4 shots winning the match 66-62 was ............ The 'Buntingford Bulls'. This puts the series at 1 match all after the Buntingford Bears were winners last year. And a special mention to Simon Anstey who is said to have had the game of his life. The chants of "There is only 1 Simon Anstey" can still be heard in the distance....

The Annual 'Buntingford Ladies County League North Team versus the 'Buntingford Ladies County League South Team' also took place and this one wasn't as close as the mens game as there was a 'stonking' win for the Buntingford Ladies North Team. Well done.

Good fun was had by all during thhe afternoon and a big thank you to
Roxana Clifton, Ellen Amos, Gwen Beale & Rosemary Webber for providing an excellent meal after the game.

3rd September -
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BUNTY BOYS!

Buntingford's Men were crowned HB East Area League Cup Champions for a record 8th time after victory against Rosedale at Sawbridgeworth Bowls Club. The rink of Peter Warren, Ross Murphy, Vic Greenberg and Garry Warrender won 24-12, and the rink of Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell and Mark Plume won 19-15. The win now takes Buntingford into the HB County League Semi Finals and the last 4 in Hertfordshire. This will be played on Sunday 17th September at Garston Bowls Club and we wish the whole team well.

After yet another win, the Buntingford Bears clinch promotion from EHBL Division Three. This time with 6 points against against Cuffley with a 21-6 win for Stan Keen, Mike Hatley & Mick Marks, and a 16-13 win for George Swaby, Len Purdy & Ross Murphy. Well done lads.

7th August - The Buntingford Bears promotion party has been put on hold - but just for now as their game against Knebworth was postponed due to the persistent rain.... 2 games to go......

5th August - Buntingford's Ladies played their re-arranged EHDWBA Challenge match against Hertford Castle but unfortunately couldn't muster a win this time. The original fixture was postponed due to the threat of rain as the Hertford Castle Ladies didn't want to play - so therefore I award our Buntingford Ladies victory in the first game by virtue of walkover, and this game then made it an honourable draw! A few new Bunty Lady members took to the green in this match and the experience gained will be invaluable for the future. Well done.

4th August - It was the annual 'Bowls' golf charity day hosted by our Greenkeeper Jerry Rumball at Chalgrave Manor, nr Toddington. Taking part from Buntingford was Mark Plume & Carl Frostick. 32 players took part in a great event and over £800 was raised for the chosen charity.

2nd August - The Bunty Girls go marching on after a victory in the EHDWBA Anniversary Cup against Whit Hern 2-1. Well done. The Bunty Girls are now in the Quarter Finals and will face Rosehill and we wish them well.

2nd August - The Buntingford Bears suffered their first defeat of the season last week in the EHBL Division Three, however they still lead the table with just 3 games to go. The Buntingford Bulls aren't that far behind either and currently lie in 5th Place. Latest League Table below:

TEAM PLD WON DRAWN LOST FOR AGN SHT DIFF PTS
1 BUNTINGFORD BEARS 12 11 0 1 498 301 197 57
2 HERTFORD 11 9 0 2 384 290 94 52

2nd August - Scott Wake has made it through to the EHBA Champion of Champions Semi Final after beating fellow team mate Vic Greenberg. Well done.

1st August - The EHBA Fours took place and there were wins for both of the Buntingford Fours - who will now face each other for a place in the Final. Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender returned to their old stamping ground at Hertford Castle and with Tony Keeling thumped their former team mates 25-8. Well done lads. They will now face Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake after they came through a tough encounter 21-18. The Semi Final will take place on Tuesday 8th August at a Neutral venue - however I suspect it will be at Buntingford.

31st July -

Buntingford's Men have won through to the EHBA Thurgood Cup Final after a 45-36 win against Rosehill. This will be the 4th year in succession that the club have reached the final and they will now face local rivals Bishop's Stortford for the title. Well done to the winning team of Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake: Peter Warrren, Bryan Davies, Mark Plume & Garry Warrender

30th July - Congratulations to Buntingford member Vic Greenberg as he will make his Hertfordshire debut after being selected to play in the Eastern Counties League match against Bedfordshire on Saturday August 12th. We wish you all the best. Also selected for the same game is Garry Warrender and Carl Frostick.

30th July -
It was HB County Finals Day at Bishop's Stortford and although Buntingford weren't represented in the finals this year, it was a great spectable and some Buntingford members did go along to support those involved - Ellen & Greg Amos. Mark Plume, Eddie Plume, Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Roger Evans.

29th July - Buntingford hosted the HB County Top Team Semi Finals and thank you to those club members that made the day possible. Feedback as always from those playing has again been positive and that is a great testament to the 'usual few' that always put in the hard work. Thank you.

27th July - Buntingford's Men secured all 6 points in their County League game at Ware, winning on both rinks and by 45-33. The rink of Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, John Powell & Mark Plume won 25-15, and the rink of Bryan Davies, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake won 20-18 with the win coming from the very last bowl. Well done lads.

Latest League Table:

TEAM PLD WON LOST FOR AGN DIFF PTS
BUNTINGFORD 2 2 0 86 68 18 11
WARE 2 1 1 89 82 7 6
SAWBRIDGEWORTH 1 0 1 35 41 -6 1
B. STORTFORD 1 0 1 37 56 -19 0

So - I make it that with 1 game to play, 3 points in our final game at home to Bishop's Stortford will see us get to 14 points and that will be enough to take us through to the East Area Cup Final. (2 points - one winning rink is likely to be enough)

27th July - The Club History page has been updated with further information.

26th July - Ross Murphy & Scott Wake thump their opponents from Ware to reach the Semi Finals of the EHBA Two Wood Pairs. Well done lads.

25th July - The invincibles keep on winning......... It's now 11 out of 11 for the Buntingford Bears in the East Herts Bowls League Division three. The 'Dream Team' of Stan Keen, Len Purdy & Mick Marks were beaten for the very first time this season going down by just 4 shots - but it's a team game and the Triple of Mick Cheeseman, George Swaby & Ross Murphy came from behind to win by 12 shots and ensure the team maintained their 100% record. Welll done lads - Excellent stuff! Just 4 games to go..........

24th July - Peter Warren & Vic Greenberg pick up a 3 on the last end to win by 1 shot in their EHBA Quarter Final Pairs match. Well done lads

21st July - Buntingford Club President Jenny Hawes (on her Birthday) held a successful Presidents day despite the inclement weather as the day featured members from the past and the present. Lots of money was raised for the Presidents chosen Charity, MacMillan Cancer Research. (an exact total raised will be published at a later date). It was especially nice to see some of our newer members taking part in the occasion - Carol Cain, Paul Besser and John Weaver. And also a big thank you to Roxana Clifton, Gwen Beale and Jill & Graham Waite for their sterling efforts in the kitchen, and to all of those who maintain the green. The Club looked magnificent.

21st July - Middleton Cup Quarter Final Report: Hertfordshire v Bedfordshire.
48 Players, 126 Ends played, 2016 Bowls delivered - and the match came down to just 1 shot with Bedfordshire taking the overall win. A fantastic advert for Bowls with an unbelieveable atmosphere, and around 100 supporters cheering the team on in a very entertaining game. Hertfordshire led the match early on after 5 ends across the board. At 10 ends it was Bedfordshire's turn to go in front. 15 ends and it was very close - but then it slipped away from Herts with Bedfordshire taking a 17 shot lead with less than 20 ends to be played across the 6 rinks. Herts pegged them back and with just 5 ends to be played Herts led by 2 shots, but then went behind by 4 shots with just 1 end to be played. Herts picked up a 3 but it wasn't enough and Hertfordshire's run came to an end. The rink of Phil Russell (W&D),
Carl Frostick, Alan Hutchison (Bishop's Stortford) and Mark Plume had an excellent game and won their rink by 2 shots to finish the Middleton Cup series with 4 wins out of 5 matches played. Well done lads. Thank you to our regular supporters who travelled up to Aylesbury Town Bowls Club to support the Buntingford Lads - Eddie Plume, Greg & Ellen Amos. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

21st July - The biggest Middleton Cup game for 20 years takes place today at Aylesbury Town Bowls Club as Hertfordshire face Bedfordshire in the Middleton Cup Quarter Finals. Representing Hertfordshire are Buntingford's Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. We wish them well as the winners will qualify for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa on Saturday 5th August. C'mon Herts!

21st July - Two Buntingford Fours have made it through to the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Fours after wins at Buntingford against Bishop's Srortford and Ware. Both Fours were behind early on but came through in the end. Well done to Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake; Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender.

20th July - Mark Plume's attempt to qualify for the Bowls England National Championships ended in defeat at the HB County Singles Semi Final Stage at Hatfield Bowls Club - mainly because he played absolute rubbish!
Thank you to the usual suspects from the Buntingford club that always come to support at these high profile games -
Eddie Plume, Tony Keeling, Peter Warren, Garry Warrender, Scott Wake, Vic Greenberg and Greg Amos.

The great news for Mark Plume was that earlier in the week he received an email from the Hertfordshire County Team Manager saying they had put him forward to be considered for an England International trial in the 2018 British Isles series. Mark will know in a few weeks if he has been chosen for the England trial squad which will take place in September this year.
This is recognition for Mark's performances over the last 3 years and great news for Buntingford Bowls Club. We wish him well.

(Let's just hope they don't just go by his performance in the County Singles Semi Final as to whether he is successful in securing a trial or not!)

20th July - With so many great performances and thumping wins by the Club this year, the 'Club Record Wins' page has been updated with some fantastic victories.....

19th July - Oh so close for the Bunty Boys of Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender in their HB County Pairs Semi Final as they went down by just 1 shot. It was a tight contest throughout the match and it came down to the wire on the very last end. Hard luck lads. Thank you to the Bunty supporters that travelled to support the lads at Hatfield Greg Amos, Vic Greenberg, Tony Keeling, Peter Warrren, Mark Plume, Eddie Plume and Scott Wake.

17th July - It's 10 out 0f 10 for the Buntingford Bears in the EHBL Division Three after yet another thumping victory - and a record score this time!
Both triples were 13-0 up early on and totally outbowling their opponents. The final scores were
Nigel Bentley, Mike Hatley & Tony Keeling winning by 38-6, and Stan Keen, Len Purdy & Mick Marks winning 23-12. Well done lads.
But let's not write off the
Buntingford Bulls aswell, as in the latest League Tables they currently lie in 4th place in their battle for promotion.

17th July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Semi Finals of the Lyndhurst Trophy after another comfortable win against Rosehill. The away triple of Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake won 18-10, and the home triple of Peter Warrren, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume won 28-8. Well done to the Bunty Boys.

15th July - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team has been named for their vital Quarter Final Match against Bedfordshire on Saturday 22nd July. Both Carl Frostick and Mark Plume have been selected in the team. The match will take place at 2.00pm at Aylesbury Town Bowls Club, The Sports Complex, Wendover Road, Aylesbury, Bucks, HP21 7BE.
The winners of this match will qualify for the Semi Finals at the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa on Saturday 5th August. We wish you all the best lads.

15th July - Ross Murphy made his debut for Hetfordshire in the Eastern Counties League match versus Norfolk at Garston Bowls Club. Although Hertfordshire didn't win the match, I am pleased to report that Ross was part of a winning rink. Well done Ross.

13th July - Buntingford's Men came within 2 shots of recording a record victory in their EHBA Thurgood Cup Quarter Final match after a thumping 53-19 win against Sele Farm. Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake won 29-13. The rink of Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Mark Plume & Garry Warrender won 24-6. Well done lads.

13th July - The Bunty Girls recorded a victory in their latest HB County League match. Well done to Carol Cain, Ellen Amos, Gwen Beale and Roxana Clifton.

12th July - The latest standings in the Ladies Monday Evening League see our Bunty Girls lying 7th in the table out of 10 teams. Keep going ladies.

12th July - Congratulations to Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender for reaching the Semi Finals of the HB County Pairs after a nail-biting quarter final victory 20-18. It was nip and tuck the whole way through the game with the Bunty Boys going in front just after the half way stage. A count of 3 shots towards the end of the game put them in control and they went into the last end 3 shots up. A great last end saw the boys progress. Well done.
Buntingford Bowls hosted all of the Quarter Final matches and put on an excellent show. Thank you to
Roxana Clifton, Rosemary Webber and Roger Evans for their support in the kitchen providing an excellent meal for everyone. Thank you also to barman Bryan Davies for his hard work

11th July - Mark Plume is now just 1 game away from qualifying for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa after winning through his County Singles Quarter Final match. The game being played at Garston Bowls Club was played in torrential rain throughout making the green exceptionally heavy. The match lasted 2 and a half hours and 28 ends, and Mark won through 21-16 beating a fellow Middleton Cup Skip. Thank you to Scott Wake and Eddie Plume who braved the awful conditions to come along and support. The Semi Finals will be played at Hatfield Bowls Club on Thursday 20th July and please come along to support.

10th July - It's 9 wins out of 9 games played for the Buntingford Bears as they secured yet another victory in the EHBL Division Three. The rink skipped by Mick Marks won comfortably, and with a winning wood from Tony Keeling with his last bowl to pick up 5 shots (turning a 3 down on the scoreboard to win by 2) secured all 6 points. The Buntingford Bulls currently lie in 4th place in the table. Well done to all so far.

10th July - Well done to Debbie Marks as she has booked her place in the Quarter Finals of the EHDWBA Millennium Singles Cup.

To all members - Please consider attending the Skills Day as detailed below. A lot of time and effort has gone into securing the coaches and this is a great opportunity that will help bowlers across all abilities. Thank you.

Skills Day Monday 31st July - 10.30am to 4.30pm
at Buntingford Bowls Club

Just because you think you can bowl, don't think this is not for you.
You will find this day very informative and you will learn a lot.

The Hertfordshire Bowls Coaching Society run a number of these
days at various clubs across the county and they are always very well attended. The Feedback is always positive.
Last month there were Mens Middleton Cup players, and Ladies John's Trophy players attending one of the events. The feedback was excellent and these players continued to learn from the coaches.

It will cost you £4. which will go towards the mileage for the Coaches,
and a light lunch wil be provided.

The club need a minimum of 24 members to attend to make this event happen. Please think about it and put your name down.........

8th July - The Mens HB County Two Wood Singles competition took place across 4 venues in Hertfordshire today with the winners of each venue progressing to the Semi Finals. The winners of those Semi Finals would then qualify for the Bowls England National Championships. Buntingford had members taking part and although they didnt progress through to the latter stages of the competition, Ross Murphy was the best performer after reaching the Area Semi Finals at Datchworth.

8th July - Whilst some members fought for places at the Bowls England National Championships, back at base camp in Buntingford the annual Fixed Jack Competition took place with 24 competitiors competing for first prize. Congratulations to this years Champion Rick Brown, and well done to Runner Up Simon Anstey for picking up a trophy for the very first time since becoming a member of this club. John Weaver won the Spider and thank you to all of the helpers that made the event possible.

- The Fours 1st round got underway this week and there were wins for Roger Evans, Mark Plume, Carl Frostick & Scott Wake: Peter Warren, John Powell, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender.
 - Scott Wake
booked his place in the EHBA Champion of Champions Qaurter Finals by the narrowest of margins with a 21-20 victory.

A belated and a very warm welcome to our newest members: Jason Edwards, Jim & Kate Farquhar, Terry Geraghty, Martin Owen, Pat Sinnett, and Jan & David Ward. We wish you every success at Buntingford Bowls Club. And a very big thank you to our coaches Eddie Plume, Mike Hatley, Roger Evans, and everyone else that helped out ensuring our new members had a great start to their time at this great club of ours. Thank you.

3rd July - Mark Plume has made it through to the HB County Singles Quarter Finals after a 21-16 victory on a tricky rink at Baldock. The quarter finals will be staged at Garston Bowls Club on Tuesday 11th July. Unfortunately Vic Greenberg and Peter Agnew bowed out at the last 16 stage.

30th June - Debbie Marks run in the HB County Unbadged Singles came to an end at the Last 16 stage. By reaching this stage of the competition, Debbie became the first ever Buntingford Ladies member to reach the Last 16 of the HB County Unbadged Singles. Well done Debbie.

30th June - Vic Greenberg's fine run in the National Champion of Champions came to an end at the Hertfordshire Area Semi Final Stage in a very tight game. A great run in the competition and well done Vic.

30th June - A reminder to all of our members to enter the Fixed Jack Competition on Saturday 8th July. This inclues our new members aswell and I would encourage you all to take part. This is a competition for everyone whatever your ability and will give our newcomers a taste of competition bowls. Please don't be afraid to enter though. Go and write your name on the competition entry sheet - what's the worst that can happen.....

30th June - Congratulations to Ross Murphy for being selected for Hertfordshire in the next Eastern Counties League match against Norfolk on Saturday 15th July at Garston Bowls Club. This will be Ross first game at this level and we wish him all the best.
Buntingford have now had 6 players that have been selected to play for Hertfordshire this season and this is a new Club record. Well done to all.

29th June - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after a thumping 43-18 win against Northaw & Cuffley. Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake won the home leg 18-7, and the away team of Peter Agnew, Garry Warrender and Mark Plume won 25-11. Well done team.

27th June - Carl Frostick and Scott Wake continued their fine run in the EHBA Pairs with another thumping victory.

26th June - Buntingford's Men kicked off their County League campaign with a win against Sawbridgeworth scoring 5 points out of a possible 6. Well done to the team of Bryan Davies, Peter Agnew, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Scott Wake, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender, Roger Evans and John Powell.

25th June - After the heroics of yesterday Hertfordshire just fell agonisingly short against the current National Champions Leicestershire in the Last 16 of the Balcomb Trophy (Top 8 players). The match was very close throughout the game with nothing more than a few shots in it for either side. The match swung both ways. The rink skipped by Tom Muir had finished and won by 4 shots, meaning that on the last end the rink skipped by Mark Plume required 3 shots to tie the match and take it into an extra end. Unfortunately they could only manage a single and Hertfordshire went out by just 2 shots. A great effort on a tricky green at Parkway in Peterborough. Thank you once again to our faithful supporters Greg and Ellen Amos. It is much appreciated.

24th June - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team took on the County of Norfolk at County Arts Bowls Club in Norwich knowing that an 18 points to 4 victory (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for the overall score) would see them win their group regardless of how the scores in the other matches finished. Hertfordshire haven't won their group for 20 years but they knew their fate was in their own hands today..... And what a game it was!!!
The Norfolk team contained former World Champion and top ten world ranked player Mervyn King, a number of National Champions and a number of current England International players.
Carl Frostick playing at two, and Mark Plume playing at Skip were drawn to Skip against one of those National Champions in John Ottoway and they knew it was going to be a tough match. Mark's rink raced into a 16-3 lead, but overall Hertfordshire were behind on the scoreboard. As it came down to the wire Mark's rink were pegged back, but still recorded a victory by 20-18 and secured Hertfordshire 2 points. With just a few ends of the match to play Norfolk led by 5 shots, then it was Herts time to go in front. There was another winning rink for Herts, a very close match for Garry Warrender's rink but they went down by 6 shots. Another winning rink on the last end for Herts, and then another meaning they had 4 winning rinks and 8 points in the bag - but still needed to win overall on shots to get the 10 points aswell. 1 rink to play, 1 end to play, and Hertfordshire led by 4 shots in the match but were 4 down with just two woods to play. Our Skip drew 3rd bowl, the Norfolk Skip was tight with his last bowl and Hertfordshire had done it - and cue massive celebrations, and I mean massive celebrations! Hertfordshire are now in the National Quarter Finals to be played on Saturday 22nd July with the winners of that game qualifying for the National Championships at Leamington Spa. Our opponents won't be known for a couple of weeks yet as there are still games to be played.
I would like to thank
Greg and Ellen Amos for travelling all the way to Norwich to support the team. I hope they enjoyed being part of the occasion.

24th June - I'm expecting a full report from Mick Marks soon - but in the mean time just take a look at this - EHBL Division Three. The Bears are invincible!

21st June - Buntingford's Men cruised through to the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Thurgood Cup with a 45-13 win against Ware. Well done to the team of Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake; Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Mark Plume and Garry Warrender. Thank you to Ellen Amos in the kitchen.

21st June - Great news as both Vic Greenberg and Ross Murphy have won their HB County Unbadged Singles last 16 matches and advance to the Quarter Finals. The Quarter Finals will be played at Harpenden Bowls Club on Wednesday 5th July. We wish them both well.

20th June - Well done to Ross Murphy and Garry Warrender as they advanced to the Last 16 of the HB County Pairs after defeating another Buntingford Pair in Peter Warren and Vic Greenberg. We wish the boys well.

20th June - There is a 'SPAM' email that has been sent from Eddie Plume's Email account to his entire address book quoting 'Bad News' asking for money. It also quotes telephone numbers to ring Eddie on - These are infact fradulent. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone respond. This has been reported. Thank you

19th June - Three Buntingford Men have made it through to the last 16 of the HB County Singles. Wins for Peter Agnew, Mark Plume and Vic Greenberg. Well done lads.

17th June - A great win for Hertfordshire in their Middleton Cup match against Suffolk now puts them in pole position to qualify for the National Quarter Finals. The win was 18 points to 4 (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for the overall score). Representing Buntingford in the winning team were Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. Garry playing three on his rink went down by just 1 shot on the very last end, and Carl playing two with Mark skipping, won by 13 shots that helped Herts to victory. Thanks to Roger Evans and Scott Wake for coming along to support and cheer the lads on.
With 1 game to play against Norfolk next week, a win of 18 points to 4 will guarantee their place in the Quarter Finals. A win of any sorts will also most be likely enough to qualify aswell should other results go their way.

17th June - A great win for Vic Greenberg in the National Champion of Champions. The victory takes Vic through to the Semi Finals of The Hertfordshire Area and just 3 games from qualifying for the National Championships at Leamington.

16th June - Scott Wake bowed out of the National Champion of Champions against the 2016 County Singles Champion after a hard fought game. Hard luck.

The
Buntingford Gala Day details and poster have now been published onto the Hertfordsire Bowls Website. Details will also be published onto the home page of this website once they become available.

15th June - The next set of Hertfordshire Friendly games have been published and Roger Evans has been selected for the home game against Middlesex on Tuesday 11th June 2.30pm at Herts Watford Bowls Club. Roger Evans and Carl Frostick have been selected for the friendly game on Wednesday 26th July against Kent at Sawbridgeworth Bowls Club.

13th June - County Singles wins for the Buntingford players has seen 5 Bunty Boys progress to the 4th Round (last 32 in Hertfordshire). Wins for Peter Agnew (21-1), Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg, Mark Plume and Carl Frostick. Vic will now play Carl in the next round.

12th June - The next Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team (Top 24 Players) has been published and Garry Warrender has been selected playing at Lead this time. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume have also been selected for the game that will be held at Welwyn & District Bowls Club at 2.00pm on Saturday 17th June against Suffolk.

12th June - The Hertfordshire Balcomb Trophy squad (Top 8 players) has also been announced and Mark Plume has been selected. The Regional Finals (Last 16 Nationally) will take place on Sunday 25th June 10.00am at Parkway Bowls Club, Peterborough, with the Quarter Finals taking place at 2.30pm should the Hertfordshire Team win in the morning. The winners of the afternoon game will qualify for the National Championships that will take place in August at Leamington. We wish the team well.

11th June - Buntingford's Men came oh so close to causing an upset in the National Top Club competition after a narrow 3-2 defeat against last years National Runners Up and former National Two Fours champions Garston Bowls Club. Ross Murphy got the team off to a great start after defeating England Under 25 International player and England representative in the Junior Commonwealth games Bradley Coles, with a great win in the Two Wood Singles. Well done Ross. The Fours of Peter Warren, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake also won their game, but there was defeat in the Triples, Pairs and Four Wood Singles for Buntingford. So close, yet so far, but this result proves that Buntingford's Men are heading in the right direction competing with the best of the best in top level bowls.
Thank you to the supporters that turned up to cheer the team on. Thanks go to the reserves, the markers
Tony Duffin and Mick Marks and of course our top chef Roger Evans for the early morning bacon rolls and lunch. Thanks Roger.

11th June - The second round of the EHBA Triples saw two Buntingford Triples take on each other. The winners were Roger Evans, Ross Murphy and Carl Frostick after they defeated John Collins, Rick Brown and Mick Marks

10th June - Hertfordshire defeated Huntingdonshire at Brampton Institute Bowls Club in their latest Middleton Cup match by 17 points to 5 (2 Points for a rink win, 1 for a draw and 10 points for the overall score). Playing for Hertfordshire and representing Buntingford were Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. Garry playing three on his rink came up against a former Junior England International and couldn't quite muster a win, whereas Carl and Mark came up against a member of the 2015 National Triples Champions that defeated the boys in the Semi Finals that same year. Some consolation for that game was a 21-15 victory today that helped Hertfordshire to victory. Well done lads. Hertfordshire now top their group with 2 games to go. Thank you yet again to our supporters of Ellen and Greg Amos for travelling all that way to cheer on the Bunty Boys. It is much appreciated.

On Sunday 11th June at 10.00am
Buntingford's Men take on Garston Bowls Club in the National Top Club competition. Garston are arguably the best team in the county of Hertfordshire and in recent years they have won the National Two Fours Championships, as well as being runners up in the National Top Club Competition. It should be a great contest and we would welcome supporters to cheer the team on. Bacon rolls will be available from around 9.00am so what better incentive to come down to the club and show your support. Thank you.

9th June - A long trip to Mill End in the HB County Top Team ended with a narrow loss for Buntingford's Men that went to shot countback. 2-2 on the games, but by virtue of Mill End winning more shots, they progressed through to the Quarter Finals. Thank you to everyone that made the long journey including the players, reserves and supporters. It is very much appreciated.

9th June - The new Ladies Friday Afternoon League kicked off and Buntingford's first game was against Hertford Castle Ladies. After the rain on Monday night, the sun shone for the Bunty Girls this time around and victory was theirs. Well done to all of the Ladies.

8th June - The 2016 County Pairs Champions Peter Agnew and Mark Plume crashed out of the first round this year after a last end defeat. Carl Frostick and Scott Wake also fell at the first hurdle. Better news as Ross Murphy and Garry Warrender won. Roger Evans and Tony Keeling had an extra end victory. And another win for Peter Warrren and Vic Greenberg.

The number of visits to this website is not as high as it was during 2016. I call on all Buntingford members to spread the word and share this website please. The more views = more chance to attract sponsors and bring revenue to the club. Thank you.

6th June - HB County Singles 3rd round wins for Ross Murphy, Garry Warrender, Peter Agnew, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. The next round sees a Buntingford clash as Ross plays Carl.

6th June - Pleased to report that Peter Agnew is now out of Hospital after being told he slipped discs in his back. Hopefully he should be back on the green playing again by the end of the week.

5th June - A victory for the Bunty Girls in the Monday night league against Hertford. The game was played in a tsunami and well done to those ladies that won - and survived!

5th June - Dinah Geere's good run in the National Champion of Champions came to an end in the 3rd round at Shire Park on a very poor playing surface. Hard luck Dinah.

5th June - The next Herfordshire Middleton Cup team has been annouced and Mark Plume, Carl Frostick and Garry Warrender have all been named. Well done lads. The next game takes place at Brampton Institute Bowls Club in Huntingdon against Huntingdonshire on Saturday 10th June.

4th June - Hertfordshire played Suffolk in the Balcomb Trophy (Top 8 players) with the Suffolk team containing World ranked number 13 player Mark Royal. Mark Plume was skipping one of the Hertfordshire rinks and after playing England's number two ranked player in the Middleton Cup the day before, was drawn to play against the World ranked number 13 player Mark Royal.
The game commenced and Mark Plume's rink was never behind all game winning 18-12 in an excellent contest with some high quality Bowls. The other Hertfordshire rink skipped by Junior England International Tom Muir also won and saw Hertfordshire through to the last 16 in the Country.

4th June - The early league tables are out in the East Herts Bowls League and the Buntingford Bears are currently second in League Division Three, with the Buntingford Bulls mid-table at 7th.

4th June - We wish Peter Agnew well as he is currently lying in a hospital bed after being admitted on Saturday after the Middleton Cup game with excruciating back pain. The Doc will give a diagnosis on Monday 5th - and hopefully he will have some good news for Peter.

3rd June - Hertfordshire's Middleton Cup campaign started against a tough Northamptonshire Team containing a number of International players and National Champions. The result saw Hertfordshire win on 2 out of the 6 rinks and by a higher shot difference to claim a 14-8 points victory (2 points for a winning rink and 10 for the overall score).
The green at Welwyn & District was lightening. It was the fastest green I think anyone had ever played on with everyone saying it was just too fast.

Garry Warrender playing Middleton Cup for the first time for Buntingford was on one of those winning rinks and had an excellent game. Well done Garry.
Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick, Alan Hutchison (Bishop's Stortford) and Mark Plume were drawn to play against arguably Northamptonshire's strongest rink with the player at 3 against them having won a number of England Titles, with the Skip also having won a number of England Championships as well as being ranked number 2 in the England Rankings. A nice easy start to their campaign! It was team effort that saw the rink get a lead early on, then fall behind, then catch up, with it finishing 21-25. A great effort with some excellent bowing that helped Hertfordshire to victory. A big thank you to Ellen and Greg Amos, and Mike Grimsdale for turning up to support Hertfordshire and cheer on the Bunty Boys.

2nd June - Buntingford's Men suffered disappointment in the County Club Three Fours competition at Datchworth with all 3 rinks going down by just a few shots - and with the oppposing skips playing some excellent bowls at the right time towards the end of the game. A real positive for Buntingford was a first game for Jake Andrews at a competitive level for Buntingford. He did very well during the game and with his very first bowl drew the shot! Well done Jake.

31st May - Well done to Scott Wake for making it through to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Champion of Champions. Scott will now take on the current HB County Singles Champion in the next round.

31st May - Congratulations to Ross Murphy for making it through to the Last 16 of the HB County Unbadged Singles. His next game will be at home on Wednesday 21st June and we wish him well. Vic Greenberg has also made it through to the Last 16 and he will be away at Bishop's Stortford.

30th May - Dinah Geere has won through to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Champion of Champions after a 21-20 win. Trailing 17-20 Dinah picked up 4 to beat Lesley Moylette of Sele Farm. Well done Dinah

30th May - Peter Agnew and Mark Plume both came through their 1st round games in the HB County Singles at Bishop's Stortford.

29th May - The 'Record Scores' page has been updated further.

Further to the note below:
Thank you to all of those members that contributed financially to the Bowls Development Alliance and the Macmillan charity. Your donations across the weekend both at the Spoon Drive, and the Friendly game against Stransted are greatly appreciated. The club raised a total of £47.00. Thank you.

29th May - A great turnout for the Bank Holiday Spoon Drive with around 50 members in attendance. It was also great to see some new faces aswell. Thanks to Debbie Marks for her organisation, Liz Cooper and helpers behind the bar, and Roger Evans and helpers on the Barbecue.

28th May - A new page has been added - Record Scores. This shows our biggest competition wins thoughout the club's history

27th May - Mark Plume has been selected in the Hertfordshire Balcomb squad for the second consecuetive year (and his 7th time in all) to take on Suffolk on Sunday 4th June. The Balcomb Squad consists of the top 10 players in Hertfordshire who compete in a National Two Fours competition. It's a great achievement to be considered for selection at the highest level and we wish Mark well.

27th May - Buntingford Bowls Club history will be made as all four Bunty Boys trying out for a place in the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Squad have made the team sheet for the first game against Northamptonshire on Saturday 3rd June. Peter Agnew (Lead), Carl Frostick (Two) and Mark Plume (Skip) will be on the same rink, with Garry Warrender playing three on another rink. The Middleton Cup consists of the best 24 players in Hertfordshire and this is the first time ever that the Hertfordshire team will consist of 4 Buntingford members. This really is a fantastic achievement and one the club should be very proud of. We wish the lads all the best.

27th May - The final Eastern Counties League match took place before the Hertfordshire Middlton Cup squad was announced as Hertfordshire took on Suffolk at Welwyn & District bowls club. Mark Plume skipping his rink, was defeated for the first time in 2 years in a County shirt as he went down by 8 shots, and Garry Warrender playing at three on his rink won by a cricket score after playing an excellent game. Hertfordshire won the match overall.

26th May - Well done to the trio of John Collins, Rick Brown and Mick Marks as they secured a thumping 19-9 win at Bishop's Stortford in the EHBA Triples against a very experienced triple consisting of PCG, Bob Mitchell and Derek Booth. Their prize for winning is now a second round match against another Buntingford Triple of Roger Evans, Ross Murphy and Carl Frostick.

26th May - A great result for Buntingford's Men as they came through a tough test at Bishop's Stortford in the HB County Top Team competition. At the half way stage Buntingford were up in all four games but Stortford came back to make it a tight contest. The Singles finished 17-21. The Fours finished 20-23. The Triples (playing the current County Triples Semi Finalists) ran out winners by 30-4, which meant the game came down to the last end of the Pairs and the lads won 18-15. This meant the game finished 2-2 but the Bunty Boys progress by virtue of winning more shots. Well done to the squad of Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender, John Powell, Mark Plume, Peter Agnew, Peter Warren, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling and Vic Greenberg.

25th May - Disappointment in the County Fours Quarter Finals as the Bunty Boys went out by just 2 shots to a very good Garston Four. Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume were 14-2 down after just 7 ends after dropping a poor 6 and a lucky four in consecuetive ends. But they rallied to pull level at 17-17 after 17 ends and were holding 2 shots on the 18th end to take the lead with just 1 bowl to come from the opposing skip - and he bowled a great wood to turn the head and the match around. That was the turning point with the final score being 19-21. Hard luck lads.

23rd May - It was oh so close in the National 'Tony Allcock' Trophy as Buntingford went down by just 4 shots against an experienced Welwyn & District team. 25-25 on one rink, with the other going down by 4 shots. A great effort.

23rd May - Congratulations to Vic Greenberg for cruising through his second round match in the National Champion of Champions after a thumping 21-1 win against the club champion from Abbots Langley. It was all over within 10 ends! Well done Vic.

22nd May - So we may not be able to prove that there is life on other planets yet. We may not be able to prove that Elvis is in fact alive and well and living somewhere, BUT - one thing we can now all tick off our lists is that we finally have proof that Garry Warrender does know where the Buntingford Bowls Club kitchen is.......

21st May - Unfortunately Buntingford's Ladies bowed out of the National Top Club against a very strong Croxley Guild team.

20th May - Carl Frostick and Peter Agnew represented Buntingford Bowls Club in the recent Eastern Counties League match for Hertfordshire against Cambridgeshire. Peter was on a winning rink, and Carl went down by just 1 shot on the very last end.

18th May - Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume cruised into the Quarter Finals of the HB County Fours after their opponents conceeded the game after just 10 ends! The rain fell during the match and the Bunty Boys dropped 2 singles and scored 18 shots in 8 ends before their opponents decided enough was enough at 18-2. Well done to the lads and the Quarter Final match will be at Welwyn & District Bowls Club on Thursday 25th May 6.00pm against Martin & Bradley Coles four from Garston.

18th May - Buntingford Bears recorded a comfortable win in their latest EHBL Division Three league match.

Thank you to
Eddie Plume, Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, John Collins and everyone else that helped out with the Open Morning and the Free Lessons. 13 have applied for membership with a further 4 having more lessons before joining. A job well done!

17th May - The Club Information page updated.

17th May - Peter Agnew, Tony Keeling and Garry Warrender bowed out of the HB County Triples in their last 16 round match. The weather was absolutely terrible and it was a shame that the conditions affected the outcome of the match. Hard luck lads.

16th May - Congratulations to the Buntingford Bowls League players as they triumphed in their first round match in the EHBL Ranson Cup against BSP. The rink of Mick Marks, Dave Clifton, Mike Grimsdale and Brian Bushell won comfortably at home 26-13, and the rink of John Collins, Tony Duffin, Greg Aos and Charles Oats kept it tight on the away rink. Well done lads.

16th May - Buntingford's Men went out of the Natonal Club Two Fours by just 5 shots against a very strong Baldock team containing 2 former County Singles Wiinners, 5 Middleton Cup players a Middleton Cup Trialist. Thank you to Roxana Clifton and Ellen Amos in the Kitchen and Roger Evans behind the bar.

15th May - Congratulations to the Bunty Boys of Garry Warrender, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume for reaching the last 16 of the County Fours with a thumping 24-5 win. Well done lads

13th May - The next Two Eastern Counties League Match teams have been selected for Hertfordshire's games against Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. 11th May - Carl Frostick is looking for a Mixed Pairs partner to play with him in the EHBA MIxed Pairs competition at Buntingford on 19th May. Gwen Beale his usual partner is unavailable for this game, so if you are interested please get in touch with him down the club. Thank you.

8th May - Three Buntingford's Mens Triples have made it through to the Last 32 of the County Triples as there were wins for Roger Evans, Mike Hatley and Ross Murphy, Peter Agnew, Tony Keeling and Garry Warrender, and Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume. Unfortuntaley in the Ladies Triples Debbie Marks Triple bowed out at this stage.

7th May - The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Trial took place today at Welwyn & District Bowls Club as 48 players were invited from across the County. Two games took place as the selectors watched from the sidelines. The Middleton Cup Team will be selected at the end of May and in contention for places are Buntingford's Garry Warrender, Carl Frostiick, Peter Agnew and Mark Plume.

6th May - Buntingford Bowls Club history was made in the Eastern Counties League Match today as Hertfordshire took on Essex at Dunmow. Four Buntingford players were represented in the Hertfordshire Team, and this is the frst time in the Club's history that this many Buntingford Players have been in the same Hertfordshire team - and they were all on winning rinks! Garry Warrender leading on his rink won by 5 shots, and Peter Agnew (Lead), Carl Frostick (Two), Alan Hutchison (Three) and Mark Plume (Skip) won 22-12 on their rink. A great start to the campaign for Hertfordshire as they won the match comfortably and well done to the Bunty Boys.

4th May - On yet another bitterly cold evening our Bunty Girls have some excellent news - Debbie Marks, Ellen Amos, Roxana Clifton and Dinah Geere have won through to the next round of the HB County Fours after victory against a very experienced four skipped by Daphne Pratt from Sele Farm. A great victory and we wish you well in the next round.

3rd May - The first of the 'Free Lessons' took place and although there was rain in the air, a few did make the effort to come along. Could our Buntingford Members please keep spreading the word to anyone and everyone they see, and keep promoting our great club. Thank you.

2nd May - The first of the Hertfordshire County Competitions kicked off with the County Triples taking place on a chilly evening. Three Buntingford Triples progressed into Round Two. 23rd April - Grace Gibbs was our winner in the opening event of the outdoor season at Buntingford with a win in the Spoon Drive. A great turn out from the members and thanks to those that helped in the Kitchen. As for the green - I think we were all suitably impressed by the speed of the green as it was a pleasure to roll the woods towards the Jack.......

22nd April - A great turn out for the working party at the club this morning, and we were all well fed in the kitchen too. There must have been at least 30 members down there doing their bit for our club and thank you to everyone that turned up. The Spoon Drive officially opens the green tomorrow afternoon, so please pop down and show your support to our great club. Thank you.

21st April - It is very sad news to announce the passing of John Stone.
John was a member of Buntingford Bowls Club for over 20 years and during his time served the club well in a number of Official positions, most notibly John served as Club Captain and also became Club President in 2015.
On the field of play John was part of the historic Buntingford Bowls Club Team that won the Hertfordshire County League in 2005, which was Buntingford's very first County Honour. John was part of the East Area League Cup winning team on 3 separate occasions. John played in an EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy winning team and also won 9 Buntingford Bowls Club competitions. T
houghts are with Denise and family at this difficult time.

11th February - More Club Records have been added. Please scroll to the foot of the Club Records page to see the latest additions.

8th February - Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope - It's a damn fox!
I know we are a club for all ages, all abilities and all aspirations - but this is taking it a bit too far. Well I suppose at least the fox won't go hungry as there is more than enough food - It can eat all of the worms that appear on rink 1...

Hopefully our Greenkeepers will be able to repair and fill the damaged ground in time for the start of the season and get rid of that fox for good. With the Greenkeepers coming from Garston Bowls Club - they should have great experience in dealing with foxes as they had trouble on their green 2 years ago. Good luck fella's - we have faith in you!!!
