  Latest Buntingford Bowls Club News

8th July -
Due to the ongoing situation regarding Coronovirus, all the Club's weekend friendly matches in August have been cancelled.
We are due to play Bengeo on the 27th of September, a decision about this match will be made nearer the time if current circumstances change.

27th June -
Competition entry forms are to be returned to Debbie no later than 1st July. Details can be found on the entry form sent to your e-mails.

24th June -
All club friendly matches have been cancelled until the end of July due to the ongoing pandemic. The situation is constantly being monitored by the committee.

11th April -
It is with deep regret we have to announce the death of the past East Herts Bowling Association secretary John Simmons. Sadly, he passed away in hospital this afternoon (11.04.20). We extend our condolences to his family on their sad loss.

16th January -
It is with much sadness that we have heard that Bill Lammas passed away on the 11th of January.  Bill was a member of Rosedale BC, a Life Member of Hertfordshire Bowls (since 1996), Middleton Cup selector and HB Greens Advisor for many years up until the time of his passing. He will be greatly missed within the Bowls fraternity.

His funeral will be held at 12.30pm on Monday 27th January at Enfield Crematorium, Great Cambridge Road, Enfield, EN1 4DS, afterwards at Rosedale Sports Club, Andrews Lane, Waltham Cross, EN7 6TB.

17th September - All results from Club Finals Day 2019 have been added to the Member Profiles section of the website.

14th September -
Today was the last home weekend friendly of this season, Captain v Captain.  6 triples saw every rink in use, 36 players in all enjoying the September sunshine.  Lots of merriment, high jinks and dubious behaviour saw the gentlemen defeat the ladies.  Many thanks to all those who made this so enjoyable.  To Eddie and his band of merry helpers for providing us with an excellent meal, all those that helped make our club look spectacular, even at the end of the season.

4th September -
Final EHBL tables show Buntingford Bears finishing in 6th place of division one, and the Buntingford Bulls narrowly missing out on promotion by finishing 3rd in division three. Well done to everyone who played throughout the year.

24th July -
The rink of Pete Warren, Vic Greenburg, Scott Wake and Carl Frostick scored a 'double hotshot' in the county league on Tuesday night against a decent side from Datchworth. Extremely rare to get an 8, let alone two in the same game!
We eventually won 32-16 and our other rink (Ross Murphy, Bryan Davies, Dave Murphy and Tony Keeling) won 28-14.

23rd July - A message from our president...

July 6th was Club Presidents Day - 36 members of the club played 2 different games of bowls but not as we know it!
The first game was played with 2 jacks and the second game was played without a jack until the head had been created. Great fun was had by all especially when it came to scoring!

The overall points winner was Roseanne Bantick.

A lovely meal from the kitchen team led by Roxana finished
off the day. There was a spectacular raffle, a spider and scratch cards
for everyone.

The grand sum of £428.00 was raised on the day and this
together with the money raised at last year’s event gave a
total of £1028.00 to donate to Macmillam Nurses.

Thanks to all who helped out on the day and made it so
successful.

22nd July -
Bryan Davies, Vic Greenberg, Dave Murphy and Tony Keeling have won the senior 4s with a good display of bowls against a Garston 4. They now go to Leamington on 6th August where their first round is against a Wiltshire 4. They have to win 5 games over 3 days to become National champions. Hotel is booked, why not pop up and support them, Leamington is a fabulous experience!

20th July -
27 intrepid bowlers competed in the annual Fixed Jack competition, the result was very close with Bob Lowers & Mick Marks tying for third place, Dave Murphy just missing out on glory and finishing second and this year's winner was Brian Bushell by a nose.  John Collins won the Spider (it was a measure).  Many thanks to Rosemary Webber and her helpers for a lovely lunch, thanks to all those who provided raffle prizes.  A massive thank you to Phil Geere & Roger Evans who set out the rinks so expertly.  Next event is Aussie Pairs on August Bank Holiday Monday, the list is already up in the clubhouse.

Too many cooks didn't spoil the broth!

On a windswept, wet & freezing evening, the 'old boys'
consisting of Tony Keeling, Vic Greenberg, Dave Murphy & Brian Davies travelled to Batchwood Hall in St Albans and won 15-10 in the Men's Senior Fours. They now progress to the quarter finals at Potters Bar on 2nd July against either a team from Royston or Sawbridgeworth. Good luck to our boys! Thank you to Vic Greenberg for this update.

9th June -
Buntingford’s Men still can’t get past the second round of the Bowls England National Top Club competition after a 3-2 loss to Baldock. It all came down to the Fours match with the Bunty Boys holding 4 shots on the 20th end, only for the opposing skip to get a piece of luck to reduce the deficit. The 21st end didn’t go the lads way and Buntingford bowed out. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

9th June -
Buntingford 1 lost by 5 shots to a strong team from Kings Langley in the Tony Allcock Trophy competition. Thank you to Dinah Geere for this update.

5th June -

4th June -
8 Buntingford players have made it through to the 3rd Round of the County Singles which is the most there has ever been. Unfortunately now in round four, 6 of those players will now play against each other! Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

4th June -
A new partnership between Mark Plume and Dave Murphy beat a pair from Herford in the EHBA 2 wood pairs.   25-10 . Thank you to Dave Murphy for this update.

3rd June - Nice to see new Members Dave Baxter and Dennis Beauchamp playing their first competitive match in a Buntingford shirt together. Both have recently joined the club from Cheshunt and came through their EHBA Pairs first round match with ease. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

3rd June -
7 down with 2 ends to play – no problem!?! Roxana Clifton & Bryan Davies were just that when they then went and picked up a 6 followed by a 4 to win by 3 shots in their EHBA Mixed Pairs match. It’s never over until it over……Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

2nd June -
Buntingford’s Men came through a tricky tie at Stevenage in the National Club Two Fours. With the draw seeing Rinks 1 and 6 being played on the lads expected them to be the best two rinks – but they were far from that! One rink was 4-0 down and the other 10-3 down but both rinks recovered to win comfortably. Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick & Mark Plume won 22-13. Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won 26-18. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

1st June -
The first game in the Middleton Cup match didn’t go Hertfordshire’s way as they were beaten 19 points to 3 against Cambridgeshire. Carl Frostick playing at three on his rink went down 29-14. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

31st May -
For those that like stats and facts, in the 5 Matches Buntingford’s Men have won in external competitions so far this year, they have won on 16 rinks, and lost none. A really great start to the season. Thank you to Vic Greenburg for this update.

31st May -
Buntingford’s Men came through a tough encounter against Royston in the County Top Team competition. The Bunty Boys won all four matches to record a 4-0 win, but the match was tougher than the score line suggested. Well done to the Team of Peter Warren, Scott Wake, Mark Plume, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender, Dave Murphy, Tony Keeling, Ross Murphy & Bryan Davies. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

31st May -
Tony Keeling and Dave Murphy beat a Bishop's Stortford pair at home in the first round of the EHBA pairs. 23-11 . Thank you to Dave Murphy for this update.

29th May -
Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume bowed out of the County Fours at the Quarter Final stage. Not a great rink to be playing on at Baldock and with the poor weather contributed to an under par performance from the lads. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

27th May -
The Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team has been named for their first match against Cambridgeshire. Congratulations to Carl Frostick on his selection and this will be the first time he plays a ‘back-end’ position at this level as he is chosen to be playing three to Nick Muir. Peter Warren takes his plays as a reserve for the first game, and I’m sure it won’t be long until Peter is picked to play. All the best lads. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

24th May -
Buntingford’s Men came through against Whit Hern in the Hertfordshire County Club Championship (Eversley) winning on all 3 rinks. Thank you to Mark Plume for this udpate.

23rd May -
Buntingford’s only triple left in the County Triples Competition bowed out in the round of last 16 against a very strong Harpenden Team. Last year’s finalists Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume never really got going and found themselves 17-3 down at the half way stage. They battled back and got close but conceded the game on the last end. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

22nd May -
A historic first as all 3 Buntingford Ladies left in the County Unbadged Singles competition have made it through to the Last 16. Roxana Clifton, Debbie Marks and Dinah Geere are still going strong and have put themselves in a great position to progress further. We wish the Bunty Belles all the very best. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

22nd May -
On the same night as the Ladies, Buntingford’s Men had 4 players in the first round of the County Singles – and all 4 came through with ease. 8 Buntingford players will take to the green in Round Two.Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

21st May -
A fantastic effort from Dave Clifton, Mick Grimsdale, Len Purdy and Greg Amos as they took their Middleton Cup opponents to the last end in the County Fours Last 16 clash. It wasn’t to be in the end but the lads have reached this stage of the competition for the very first time and can feel proud of their achievement. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

21st May -
Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume took on a very strong Royston four in their last 16 match of the County Fours and with some excellent bowling came through by 7 shots. Their Quarter Final match will be played at Baldock Bowls Club on Wednesday 29th May. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

21st May -
Congratulations to Peter Warren & Carl Frostick on their selection for the Hertfordshire Bowls Middleton Cup Squad. Carl has been a regular for a number of years now, but this is Peter’s first ever call up. 6 Buntingford members have played in the Middleton Cup in the past and Peter will add more history to the club if selected for the first match. Both players deserve their selection and we wish them all the very best. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

19th May -
Buntingford’s Men had a very comfortable 5-0 victory against Hemel Hempstead in the National Top Club. This competition has not been very favourable for the Bunty Boys in the past as they have not gone further than the second round, but this impressive start put the lads on the right path to progress deep into the latter stages. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

18th May - A great start for Buntingford in the National Tony Allcock Trophy as they won through Round One. Last year the team reached the Last 32 in the Country and have made a positive start this year. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

18th May -
Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick finished on the highest winning rink as Hertfordshire took on Cambridgeshire in the Eastern Counties League. This puts the lads in an excellent position as the Middleton Cup Squad is selected at the end of the month. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

16th May - Two Buntingford Fours are through to the Last 16 of the County Fours – and a first for Greg Amos Four reaching this stage of the competition. An easy win for Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume at Whit Hern 22-9, and a solid win for Dave Clifton, Mick Grimsdale, Len Purdy and Greg Amos at Sawbridgeworth. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

16th May -
Bryan Davies and Vic Greenberg won through in the National Old Man Pairs first round with a great win against Don Fox & Mark Harris from Sawbridgeworth. The correct name for the Competition is the ‘Senior Pairs’ but it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it…. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

15th May -
Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume came through a tough encounter in front of a bumper crowd at Bishop’s Stortford Bowls Club in their County Triples match against Scott Lepley & Co. A close start to the game but the Bunty Boys ran out 19-10 winners and reach the Last 16 as the only Buntingford Triple left in the competition. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

14th May -
The road back to Leamington is underway for the Bunty Boys as they cruised through the first round of the National Two Fours Competition with a comfortable win at Whitethorn 50-27. The rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick won by 4 shots, and Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won by 19 shots. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

14th May-
Three Bunty Belles are into the 3rd Round of the County Unbadged Singles. A great win for Dinah Geere against John’s Trophy Squad member Sarah Best from Ware. Equally impressive wins for Roxana Clifton and Debbie Marks. Well done Ladies. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

13th May-
Matthew Murphy can hold his head up high after an impressive display in his first ever County Competition. After a slow start in the County Unbadged Singles Matthew dug in and came close to victory. Although the final result didn’t go his way, he was commended for his conduct on the green and his excellent performance. Well done Matthew. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

12th May -
Peter Warren, Ross Murphy & Carl Frostick took part in the latest Middleton Cup Trial at Welwyn & District Bowls Club. All 3 Buntingford players have an excellent chance of making the Middleton Cup Squad that is selected at the end of May. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

10th May -
Three County Fours Teams into the 3rd Round of the County Fours – and a debut for Michael Foulger in a County Competition. Teams of Roger Evans, Michael Foulger, Dave Baxter & Bryan Davies (who won through against a strong Rosedale Four), Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won through comfortably, and Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender also had a comfortable win. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

9th May -
A great turnout for the ‘Free Lessons’ as over 20 people turn out. Thank you to all of the Coaches and helpers.

9th May-
The battle of Buntingford went to Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume as they won through their County Triples match against Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender. Nip and tuck throughout the match came down to the last 2 ends. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

3rd May -
A tough start for the Bunty Boys in an early 1st Round Triples match. Mark Plume playing his first match since his Appendix operation struggled to bend down and played Lead. Dave Murphy subbing for Scott Wake played Two, and Cark Frostick skipped the Triple to a win at a very heavy and unpredictable Sele Farm green. Thank you to Mark Plume for this update.

3rd May -
A tight finish in the first ‘Battle of Buntingford’ this season as Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling and Garry Warrender got the better of Rick Brown’s triple on an extra end in the first round of the County Triples. Rick Brown’s triple fell behind early on and were heading for an early bath – but inspired by Mick Marks excellent performance they battled back to force the game into an extra end – and Mick missed winning the match by just a matter of centimetre’s with his last bowl. A great game to start the season off with. Thank you to Mark Plume for providing this update.

24th April -
Now that the outdoor season is underway, it is time to to update about Buntingford's successes in the indoor season. After winning division B in the 2017/18 indoor season and getting promotion to
Division A, the Bunty boys were at again in the 2018/19 season, winning the division A title by a clear six points. The team went unbeaten in the first half of the season winning the first 13 games, but a blip in mid season saw the team drop to third in the table. A resurgence of form saw the team win their last half dozen games to finish the season well.
A squad of: Mike Hatley, Brian Bushell, John Collins, Rick Brown, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Dave Murphy, along with Riverain's Ron Williams did Buntingford proud.
Also Mike Hatley, Brian Bushell, along with Ron Williams, lost narrowly in the clubs men's triples final to a team containing a national indoor finalist, so no shame there.
All in all, a successful indoor season for Buntingford.

22nd April - The first bowling event of this year's season was a roaring success with 7 rinks of triples playing.  The Spider was won by Brian Bushell and Mick Grimsdale was this year's winner of the Spoon Drive.  A big thank you to all those in the kitchen who provided a lovely meal afterwards, those who set out the rink, those who helped on the bar.  The sun shone and good fun was had by all.

18th March -

Gold Medal success for Murphy & Plume representing Team England in Hong Kong & China.
What a fantastic experience for Ross Murphy & Mark Plume to be the first players in Club History to pull on a Bowls England shirt and represent their Country.

The
Hong Kong World Invitational Event was played on Indoor Greens and Outdoor greens. With 21 Countries taking part Ross Murphy and his rink were 'England 'A', and Mark Plume and his rink were 'England 'B'.
Countries came as far as South Africa (who had 4 Internationals in their team, accompanied by a Team Manager). Zimbabwe were represented, Australia, Macau. Commonwealth Medalists from Malaysia and China were present. Canada made the journey, a team from South Korea also came, and many, many more.
And what a start for both Ross and Mark!
6 League Games with only the best 4 placed teams across all of the groups qualifying for the Semi Finals. A tough competition and a
Gold Medal for Ross Murphy who had an excellent game in the Final against Malaysia. Mark and his rink started with a Bronze Medal. It was still all so surreal.

Onto the
China Open and 'wow' again. A Gold Medal for Mark Plume who faced Ross Murphy and his England rink in the Final. Ross settled for a Silver this time around.

A 3rd tournament took place in China which was another 3 hours drive from the first, and this time England 'A' (Ross) bowed out in the Group phase, with England 'B' (Mark) reaching the Quarter Finals only to be defeated by just 1 shot by China. Our England 'C' team won that event making England the first ever Country to make a clean sweep winning all 3 competitions. Our Ladies Team also managed 2 Bronze Medals in their 3 tournaments making it a memorable 2 weeks for Team England.
