Well done Mike.

7th December -
Around 50% of the club turned out for the AGM this year which is slightly up on last year. A number apologies were sent for absence,  but again there were a large number of 'no shows'. However, there was lots of healthy debate across a number of topics and we thank you all for your atttendance and input.
The club would like to express their thanks and gratitude to
Phil Geere.
Phil stepped down from the position of Club Facilities Manager after numerous years of service and did an outstanding job. This position is now vacant and we'd now like members to step forward to take on this rewarding position.
The Gents have a new Captain in
John Collins. John was the previous Vice Captain and we wish him well for the forthcoming year.

  COUNTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2018
Buntingford's Men rounded of their fantastic season by winning the Hertfordshire County League.
After reaching the Semi Finals they faced arguably the best club in Hertfordshire on their own green - Garston. However, they were no match for the mighty Bunty Boys as they steamrolled their opponents 43-25.
In the County League Final they faced Harpenden. This was a repeat of the 2014 Final and this time the result was exactly the same!!!
The Bunty Boys ran out 43-30 winners to move up to 2nd in the all-time winners list with 3 County League Titles since the competition began in 1995.
And on a great note, Buntingford did not lose a single rink during the entire 2018 campaign.

A big thank you to Team Manager
Roger Evans for kicking off the day with our traditional Breakfast for reaching this stage of the competition.
Thank you to our reserves
Bryan Davies, Dave Murphy and Roger Evans.
And a big thank you to our faithful travelling support of
Ellen & Greg Amos, Jennie Keeling, Daryll Davies and Micky G.

The victorious team were:
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake, Mark Plume, Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender.

1st September - Mark Plume wins the EHBA Champions of Champions.
Mark Plume became a record holder after winning the EHBA Champion of Champions for a record 4th time after victory against Alan Hutchison from Bishop's Stortford. After racing into a 12-3 lead, Mark was pegged back but dug in to finish winning an excellent contest 21-14. Well done Mark.
Thank you to the support from Tony & Jennie Keeling, Eddie Plume, Ross Murph and the Bishop's Stortford members.

Buntingford's Men won a record breaking 9th Hertfordshire Bowls East Area Cup after a hard fought victory against Northaw & Cuffley 50-35.
The team raced into an early lead, but then were pegged back as the game went on. Both rinks were ahead during the first half, but then both fell behind at some stage during the second half of the match. Towards the end the Bunty Boys found second gear to run out as deserved Champions.

Stan Keen, Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender won 19-18
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 31-17

Thank you to our supporters: Greg Amos, Ross Murphy & Jennie Keeling.

29th August -
History made today as Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy become our first ever East Herts Bowls League Mixed Pairs Finalists.
After falling behind the Buntingford Pair were 7 shots down with just 2 ends to play - BUT - 3 shots on the 20th end and then a 5 on the 21st end saw them through to the Final. Well done to both of you.
So, that's the EHBL Fours Final, the EHBL Pairs Final and now the EHBL Mixed Pairs Final gives Buntingford Bowls Club their best ever performance in the clubs history.
The Finals will be played on Sunday 9th September at Ware Bowls Club.

28th August - Dinah Geere bowed out at the Semi Finals stage of the EHDWBA Singles after a tough match. The score did not reflect the game and all the luck seemed to go against Dinah.
A consolation is that Dinah became the first Lady Bowler from Buntingford Bowls Club to reach that stage of the competition so Dinah created a little piece of history along the way.....

27th August - Today's Australian Pairs competition resulted in a very tense play-off between Dave Murphy & Len Purdy against Garry Warrender & Ray Watkins. Dave and Len came out on top and congratulations to them both.
Mike Cooper won the Australian Spider. A very big thank you to Roger Evans, Roxy Clifton, Ross Murphy and Peter Warren for the superb bbq buffet lunch. Thank you to all those who helped set out and clear the green. And another big thank you to all those who played today.

National Triples – The Story

So once again Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume took to the biggest stage in Bowls at the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa as they entered the round of Last 64 in the National Triples competition.

The weather was kind to them, and as they waited to play they looked across  the rinks on all 5 greens and it really was ‘The Who’s who’ of top level bowls.
On show were Commonwealth Gold Medallist’s, British Isles Champions, National Champions, England Internationals both Senior and Junior, World Ranked players – and of course our very own Bunty Boys.

The Bunty Boys were up against former National Champions from Buckinghamshire on their rink. They were followed by a great number of Buntingford supporters and got off to a good start.
6-3 up after 5 ends and everyone could see they were involved in a great tussle. The Buckinghamshire Triple came back at them and then edged in front, but the Bunty Boys pulled away again and it was 9-7 after 9 ends.
The lads fell 11-10 behind after 13 ends and with just 5 ends to play the boys had to dig in – and they did just that!
Some excellent bowling saw them pick up a 4 on end 14 to lead 14-11.
Another single on the 15th end stretched their lead, and then holding shot on the 16th end the Bucks skip mis-judged a fire with his last wood and the Bunty Boys picked up a 5 to lead 20-11.
2 ends to play and they had one foot in the next round. They played out the last couple of ends comfortably and shook hands to great applause from the supporters.

Back on the green just after lunch and they faced more former National Champions and a Triple from Herefordshire containing 2 England Internationals. It was clear to see the lads faced another tough encounter.
This time though they didn’t have the rub of the green and the opposing skip seemed to fire with nearly every bowl - and with great accuracy aswell.
Early on came a huge turning point. With the score at 2-5 after 5 ends, the Bunty Boys were holding 3 shots with just 1 bowl to come. The opposing skip fired and when all the bowls had come to rest instead of it being 5-5 on the scoreboard, it was 2-8 and it was going to be tough to come back from that.
2-10 and all the little rubs, edges and wicks were still going against the lads.
The Bunty Boys dug in but the ends were running out and the score was then 10-18 with 4 ends to play. They won the last 4 ends but couldn’t muster enough shots to take a victory and it finished 14-18.
A valiant effort with some fantastic bowling from all 3 Buntingford players.

Our supporters were commended by the opposition which was great to hear and you all created a great atmosphere for us to play in.
A massive thank you for those that travelled up on the day to cheer the lads on, and to those that booked hotels to stay in Leamington aswell. Your support was very much appreciated – Thank you so, so much:
Jennie & Tony Keeling, Ellen & Greg Amos, Daryll & Bryan Davies, Roger Evans, Eddie Plume, Jayne Plume, Chloe Plume, Garry & Matt Warrender, Ross & Matthew Murphy and Vic Greenberg.

It was a shame the offer of a Coach to the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa from Buntingford Bowls Club wasn’t taken up by the members - because you really did miss out on a truly great spectacle……

On Monday 27th August at 9.45am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club Website stood at 46092.                     There have been 6642 views so far in 2018 averaging 28 views every day. Thank you so much.

Thank you to all of the coaches, the helpers and those club members that have given up their time to make our new members feel so welcome.
As a club we now top over 100 members again - fantastic!

23rd August - The battle of Buntingford in the East Herts Bowls League Pairs Semi Final saw Greg Amos & Dave Murphy have an excellent game and triumph against Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy 25-15. This is the first External Competition Final Greg has reached and we wish both Greg & Dave well in the Final.
So thats the Bowls League Fours Finalists and the Bowls League Pairs Finalists now confirmed, and this will be the first time in nearly 100 years that Buntingford will be represented in these competitions on EHBL Finals Day.

Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of finalists as they will play their Mixed Pairs Semi Final on the 29th.

21st August - As it does every season the winner of the County League 'East Division A' always comes down to a clash between Bishop's Stortford and Buntingford. The Bunty Boys have been in 7 out of the last 8 East Area Cup Finals - and today they reached another one!
With the floodlights on at Bishop's Stortford the lads won by 14 shots.

Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender won 20-15
Roger Evans, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 20-11

The final is due to be played on the same day as the East Herts Bowls Association Finals Day where Buntingford players are already in 8 out of the 10 finals. Good luck sorting out the programme for that one!

20th August - So that 8 out of 8 complete.....
Buntingford's Men have equalled last seasons record  by reaching 8 East Herts Bowls Assocoiation Finals. The Association run 10 competitions and the Bunty Boys have dominated this year again.
Competing the 8 last night was
Ross Murphy in the EHBA Singles and Mark Plume in the EHBA Champion of Champions.
Ross went into an 11-2 lead, and then fell behind 16-12. A close finish saw Ross come through 21-20 and sedcure his place in the Final.
And Mark also raced into a big lead, only to be pegged back. 15-4 up, and then 18-16 in front, Mark eventually ran out winning 21-16. This win now means Mark will be playing in his 5th EHBA Champion of Champions Final.
Well done to both of you and we wish all Buntingford Finalists well on EHBA Finals Day at Buntingford Bowls Club on Sunday 2nd September.

19th August - Please log into our Facebook page to see photograph's and action from the Bowls England National Championships.

18th August - Now this is a great story to share and a nice touching moment. Every player that qualifies for Leamington in the Bowls England National Championships is awarded a badge. Here's one below:

                                                   BE_Badge_2018
This year Bishop's Stortford Bowls Club had two Ladies qualify for the National Finals after they had reached the Hertfordshire County Pairs Final. This was the first time they had ever qualified. However, one of the Ladies fell and broke her hip and the other also fell over which meant that neither player could attend the Championships to play, and therefore neither player was awarded their badge. Bowls England were adament that their rules state that players have to be in attendance to receive their qualifying badge and they weren't going to budge given the circumstances. Very harsh indeed.
Whilst Buntingford Bowls Club were playing their National Two Fours this week at Leamington, Ross Murphy managed to secure another badge, and together with the badge he won himself for qualifying - he has donated both badges to those Ladies. WOW! What a generous gesture. Well done Ross.

18th August - Bishop's Stortford Bowls Club hosted their Annual Pairs Tournament and taking part this year were Buntingford's Tony Keeling, Dinah & Phil Geere and Mark Plume. Now Tony and his partner were very generous in their games giving their opponents more shots than they got themselves in every game they played. Dinah & Phil had a mixed bag across their 4 games, and Mark Plume partnering Alan Hutchison ended up as Tournament Winners. Well done.

National Two Fours – The Story

Buntingford’s journey started back in May and finished at the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa in August – and in a National Final. Who would have ever thought that was possible...

After receiving a Bye in the first round, the Bunty Boys then beat 4 Hertfordshire Clubs in the knockout stages to take them through to the Area Final. A last wood win against Houghton Regis from Bedfordshire saw them reach the Last 16 play-off match - a feat that had never been achieved before in the history of the club.
A match up against Romford from Essex containing a number of National Champions and England Internationals went down to the wire and a 2 shot victory saw Buntingford Bowls Club reach the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa for the very first time – and the last 8 in the country!

Travelling up on the morning of Thursday 16th August it was pelting down with rain, but the rain cleared and the sun shone through as the lads took their place on the green to play Bristol Bowls Club. A surreal experience to believe that Buntingford Bowls Club were actually playing in a National Quarter Final.
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were locked in a very tight battle that saw the scores at 6-5 after 11 ends played. The rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were also in a tight contest that never saw any team pull away by more than 4 shots – but at half way through the match, Buntingford led.
17 ends each played and Buntingford were ahead by 4 shots.
19 ends played each and Buntingford were up by just 2 shots.
Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were 1 end ahead and going into the last end were 1 shot down on the scoreboard. Three brilliant bowls in the last 3 woods by Dave Murphy and Garry Warrender saw the lads pick up three shots to win 18-16 and the Bunty Boys were almost there.
A great 20th e
nd by Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume saw them pick up 4 shots and the game was all over. Buntingford Bowls Club had reached the National Two Fours Semi Finals – and now cue the celebrations……

Team Manager Roger Evans and travelling reserve Bryan Davies lived every bowl from the side-lines and offered great support throughout the encounter. It was also great to see support from Buntingford’s Larry Bullen, Mike Hatley, Greg Amos, Eddie Plume and of course from all of the families of all of the players. Bishop’s Stortford Bowls Club were also out in force to support and with Marcia Dunstone from Hertfordshire Bowls, Buntingford had a great following.

Semi Final morning and the Bunty Boys were buzzing.
There was great support again as a number of people packed the sides of the green to cheer the lads on.

Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were drawn to face an England International from Workington Bowls Club in Cumbria, and the rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender had an equally tough match against their opposition.

Early into the game and with some excellent bowling Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender led 15-2. The rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume were locked into another tense encounter with the scores going firstly in favour of the Bunty Boys, and then the way of their Cumbrian opponents.
The rink against Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender began to peg back against the Bunty Boys and the rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume began to fall behind. With the scores at 15-7 and 14-19 meant there were now only 3 shots in the game.
But - 17 ends played and Buntingford were now up by 6 shots.
2 ends left and Buntingford had pulled back and were level on the rink of Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume tied at 21-21, and the rink of Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender were up 18-13. Buntingford were almost there…..

A great last bowl by Mark Plume saw their rink win by 1 shot leaving their opponents needing a 6 to tie the game against Garry Warrender. They didn’t get the shots required and Buntingford were in the National Two Fours Final – WOW!!!

The National Final – yes the National Final (how good does that sound?) saw Buntingford up against the favourites for the competition. Gerrards Cross had won the title before and this time their team contained 8 Buckinghamshire County Middleton Cup players and a number of England Internationals. The Bunty Boys were the underdogs but we were never going to give in that easily….

The game kicked off and both rinks picked up a two on the first end.
4-0 up and although it
may not seem much now knowing how the game panned out – but it is a hugely significant moment to mention that Buntingford Bowls Club actually led a National Final……
From then on the Bunty Boys battled hard but it just wasn’t to be.
The players shook hands and as the Bunty Boys headed over to their families there were maybe one or two tears amongst all of the hugs.

It hurts to get beaten in a National Final – but who would have thought it? Buntingford Bowls Club were National Two Fours Finalists for 2018.
847 entries at the start of the competition and Buntingford had reached the last 2.
A massive achievement for all of the players involved and one that shouldn’t be underestimated.

The Bunty Boys had built a great team spirit throughout the season and credit to all of the players and supporters involved……….

12th August -
 HISTORY FOR BUNTINGFORD
Buntingford Bowls Club have qualified for the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa after victory in the National Two Fours against Romford by 2 shots - and they are now in the last 8 of the Country!!!
And what a match this was....... Buntingford were up against arguably the best club in Essex containing National Champions and an England International Player - but that didn't matter at all !
Buntingford led early on and then kept the lead at halfway. Romford fought back and got their noses in front for the very  first time after 19 ends played on both rinks. 4 shots behind with just 4 ends to play and the Bunty Boys dug in.
2 shots on 1 rink, a single on the other, 2 shots on the last end and the Bunty Boys led by 1 shot with just 1 end to play - And it came down to the last wood.
Bunty were holding one, the Essex skip was wide - and the Bunty Boys win!!!

9th August - The scoring records keep tumbling this year.......
A new highest winning margin was recorded as Buntingford created history with our biggest win ever. Playing at home against Sawbridgeworth in the County League, the Bunty Boys won by a record 54 shots in a 70-16 win. The win puts the team clear at the top of the table with just one game left to play.
Ross Murphy, Vic Greenberg, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender won 31-11.
Peter Warren, Dave Murphy, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 39-5

9th August - That's 5 out of 8 now complete - with 3 to go.....

The Buntingford Bears have just 2 games to play and are in prime position for back to back promotions. And with just 1 game to play the Buntingford Bulls need all 6 points to give themselves an excellent chance of promotion into Division Two. We wish both teams all the very best.

8th August - Buntingford now have a real chance of their first East Herts Bowls League Fours Championship in nearly 100 years.....
Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Dave Murphy & Carl Frostick have reached the Final after a 21-18 win against Ware. A tight game turned on its head as the Buntingford Team picked up a 5 on the 17th end to go in front. The team then held out for the win. Well done.

8th August - 4 complete with 4 to go.....
Bryan Davies, Tony Keeling & Mark Plume battled their way into the EHBA Triples Final after victory against Bob Spence' triple from Whit Hern. The Bunty Boys led early on, only to be pegged back, but then pulled away towards the end to win 19-12. A big thank you to Bob Hayter and his team at Hoddesdon & Rye Park for their hospitality.

7th August - Ross Murphy has won through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Singles after an excellent game in a 21-13 victory in his Quarter Final match. Ross was up against Richard Rogers who had already knocked out Tony Keeling & Carl Frostick and we wish Ross all the best in his Semi Final game.

7th August -
From our Ladies Captain Debbie Marks:
It was the Club's Annual Ladies Gala with 20 teams from across the County competing. It was a lovely day and the weather held out with only a few spots of rain in the late afternoon. A big thank you to Roger Evans and his all male kitchen crew for a lovely three course lunch, to Tony Duffin, Bryan Davies & Mick Marks for running the bar, to Rosemary Webber for her stall, to all those who donated cakes and raffle prizes, to the three reserves, Liz Cooper, Joan Wilson & Sue Batchelor for helping with the various activities. And finally a big thank you to all those who maintain the green even during these trying climactic conditions, the club and green looked lovely.

6th August - 3 out of 10 complete - with 5 to go.......
Roger Evans & Peter Warren triumphed against the 2016 Champions in the EHBA Two Wood Pairs Quarter Finals. The win means they will now face our other Buntingford Pair Ross Murphy & Scott Wake for a place in the Final. We wish both Pairs all the best.

6th August - Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick came oh so close to making the EHBA Mixed Pairs Final but just fell short for the 2nd time in 3 years. In their Semi Final Match they were drawn to play Whit Hern who have made the Final in the last 2 years and went down by 10 shots. Their Lead played very well and I'm told a few lucky 'wicks' went against them during the game, and that proved to be the difference. Hard luck to both of you.

6th August - The Buntingford Bears are almost there.......
Back to back promotions is a real possibility now.....
4 points against top of the table Bengeo brings them that bit closer.
Well done team.

6th August - Greg Amos & Dave Murphy joined our other Buntingford Pair into the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Pairs after a 23-13 win against Welwyn Garden City. Their opponents started well but playing long jacks (with the mats down - yes in August with the summer were having.....), the Bunty Pair pulled away for victory. Unfortunately, it won't be an all Buntingford affair in the Final as both pairs now have to play each other. So we guarantee to have our first finalists in the EHBL Pairs since 1925. All the best to all of the Buntingford players.

6th August - Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy strolled into the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Pairs after a 23-7 win against Sawbridgeworth. Excellent leading from the front by Bryan saw them through. Buntingford's last EHBL Pairs winners date back to the 1920's, so we wish the lads well in their next match.

4th August - Reigning and defending EHBA Triples Champions Peter Warre, Vic Greenberg & Garry Warrender bowed out at the Semi Final stage this year after defeat at Ware.

On Saturday 4th August at 9.15am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club Website stood at 44900.                        There have been 5450 views so far in 2018 averaging 25 views per day. Thank you so much.

3rd August - Jennie Keeling (subbing for Sue Batchelor) & Ross Murphy have made it through to the Semi Finals of the East Herts Bowls League Mixed Pairs with victory against Ware. After winning 11 of the first 13 ends they were pegged back to finish 17-17 and went into an extra end. Holding 3 after Jennie had bowled and heading for victory, only for the opposing skip to fire and finish 3 inches from the Jack. With the last bowl of the match Ross drew a back-toucher to claim victory. Well done to both of you

3rd August - Buntingford are still on course for a 9 out of 10 after Mark Plume booked his place in the EHBA Champion of Champions Semi Finals with victory at Bengeo. 14-4 up on an 'interesting rink' and then Mark dozed off for the next 3 ends dropping a 4, 3 and a 2 in the process. H e then woke up to see out the win 21-13.

3rd August - Bryan Davies came so close to reaching the Semi Finals of the EHBA Singles after a 21-20 defeat against Kevin Tryrell from Bishop's Stortford. 20-20 and Bryan was holding game until Kev with his last wood took the shot. Bryan had one wood to come but just couldn't quite make it. Gutting for Bryan and well done to Kev. Ross Murphy is now our clubs sole survivor in the EHBA Singles.

2nd August - The Buntingford Bears are edging closer to back-to-back promotions after another victory this week. The rink skipped by Tony Keeling was 16-5 behind but battled back for a 23-17 win. And the rink skipped by Dave Murphy were 12-3 up, and then 16-15 down going into the last end. Holding 1 with just Dave Murphy to bowl, and he drew second wood for a 1 shot victory on his rink and give the Bears all 6 points. Well done Team.
The Buntingford Bears next match is against the top of the table team Bengeo on Monday evening (6th).

1st August - So it won't be a EHBA Clean Sweep this year but the club are still on for nine out of the ten. You have to be in the right frame of mind to play a competitive match and when the traffic plays a part in delaying your arrival that can have a big impact on the outcome of the game.
Cheshunt was gridlocked and play didnt start until 6.45pm. No trial ends and a shortened match of just 18 ends would have affected the outcome. The Bunty Boys of
Roger Evans, Dave Murphy, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick came close but playing on a tricky rink they fell short by 13-16. Playing the full 21 ends may have seen them get over the winning line - but we'll never know....

1st August - Ross Murphy & Scott Wake reach the EHBA Two Wood Pairs Semi Final. Well done lads.

31st July - 2 complete with 8 to go......
Buntingford's Men romped into the Final of the EHBA Thurgood with a 48-31 victory against Whit Hern. The Bunty Boys have now reached two finals and still have representatives in the other 8 competitions.

30th July - The EHBA Clean Sweep is still on - just!
Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender came back from 13-2 behind in their EHBA Pairs Quarter Final, and 19-12 behind with just 3 ends to play and picked up a single and 2 three's to force an extra end - which they won. Well done lads.

30th July - Latest East Herts Bowls League Tables:
4 Games left to be played for the
Buntingford Bears who are well placed for back to back promotions.
2 Games left for the
Buntingford Bulls as they push for a promotion place.
We wish both teams well in their final few games.

29th July - The 'Bunty Boys' of Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume finished this year as County Triples Runners Up 2018. A tremendous achievement to reach the Bowls England National Championships this season, but disappointment in the Hertfordshire County Triples Final.
The boys started really well picking up a 6 on the first end followed by a 2 on the next end. But from then on nothing went their way. The opposing skip played 4 massive bowls during the game including turning a 3 down into a 6 up, a 4 down to a 5 up, a lucky wick saw a 3 down turn into a 4 up, and another 1 down turned into a 4 up. 19 shots against Buntingford on the scoreboard with a massive 30 shot turnaround in just those 4 bowls. It was all very dis-heartening. The Bunty Boys played well in patches but overall were just a little off the pace. A valiant effort and after 14 ends they shook hands. The weather didn't help with the rain and wind playing havoc with deliveries and the pace of the green early on. Such a shame given how hot and sunny it has been over the recent weeks.
A big thank you to the support from the Buntingford members that braved the conditions to cheer the lads on. The usual crowd turned up again - Thank you:
Ellen & Greg Amos, Ross & Matthew Murphy, Eddie Plume, Jayne Plume, Roger Evans, Jennie & Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy, Micky Grimsdale, Peter Warren & Vic Greenberg. And even our old member Ken Mulqueen turned up to support aswell. Great to see you Ken.

28th July - Buntingford's Men have created Buntingford History as they reach the Last 16 of the Bowls England National Two Fours competition with victory against Houghton Regis (compliments to a club with nice friendly members).
The match was played in windy conditions with the green a bit heavy after yesterday's storms and it came down to the very last bowl of the match. The Bunty Boys were 12 shots up across the two rinks at the halfway stage and were looking odds-on to reach the next round, but three poor ends on one rink saw the gap close to just 1 shot with just 3 ends to play. One rink picked up a 3 on their last end, the other dropped a two on their 20th end and it was 2 shots in front going into the last end. Buntingford held one, only for their skip to take it out to hold three and the match..... It then came down to
Gary Warrender with the last bowl of the match and he promptly drew second bowl to send the Bunty Boys through and cue the celebrations........
Romford Bowls Club are up next for a place in the Quarter Finals and a place at Leamington Spa in the Bowls England National Championships. The date will be confirmed soon, together with the Neutral Green location.
The victorious team were:

Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy & Garry Warrender 21-17
Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake, Mark Plume 20-23

A big thank you to Sue Batchelor & Ellen Amos for Bacon Rolls for breakfast and rolls for lunch, and good see our old Bunty Boy Aggers back cheering us on. And later on our good friend and past member Bert Cherrington made an appearance at the club. Nice to see you Bert.

28th June - The Buntingford Bowls Club Home Page has been updated.

27th July - So just as we approach a huge weekend for Buntingford Bowls Club with the last 32 clash in the National Two Fours taking place on Saturday morning, the club hosting the Hertfordshire County Team Ten Final taking on Saturday afternoon, and the Hertfordshire County Triples taking place for Carl Frostick Scott Wake & Mark Plume on Sunday morning, we find the once clear blue skies with the sun endlessly shining brightly in the sky has been replaced with thunder, lightening, cloud and lots of rain & hail.....terrific......

26th July - Buntingford's Men took all 6 points against Ware in the latest County League match - just. With one rink romping to victory, the other rink was a little closer. After being 1 shot behind on the scoreboard and 1 down on the last end, up stepped Carl Frostick to take out the Ware shot bowl to secure all of the points for the Bunty Boys.
Ross Murphy, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick & Tony Keeling won 21-18
Peter Warrren, Vic Greenberg, Dave Murphy & Mark Plume won 32-6

25th July - Australian Pairs - Monday 27th August at 10.00am.

Ever wondered what to do on the last Bank Holiday of the year? Why not come along and join in the fun of ‘Aussie Pairs’. Ever wondered what to do with that exotic flowery shirt that seemed a good purchase at the time? Dress down day means that you can wear what you like (within reason), nothing that would scare the horses or the servants of course, and nothing tooooo revealing either, or you can wear your normal bowls wear, the choice is yours.... naturally, bowls shoes are to be worn.
Luncheon will be the famous ‘Bunty BBQ’.... £5.00 per head
Interested? Put your name on the nomination sheet below...
Nominations will close on Wednesday 22nd August at 10.00am

25th July - Part 1 of 10 is now complete after defending and reigning EHBA Officers Singles Champion Bryan Davies battled his way to this years Final. Bryan raced into a 18-8 lead in his Semi Final Match against the 2016 EHBA Singles Champion Rick Helm, only to drop a 4, 4 and a 2 in consecutive ends to make the scores level at 18-18. Bryan then dug deep to pick up a 2 on the next end followed by a single to reach the Final. Well done Bryan.

25th July - Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick raced into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Mixed Pairs after a thumping 23-5 win at Sawbridgeworth. Well done to both of you.

25th July - It is with sad news to announce the passing of Hazel Hicks, wife of member John Hicks. John had taken time away from bowls in recent years to care for Hazel and thoughts are with John and his family at this difficult time. The funeral will take place at Harwood Park, Stevenage on Friday 3rd August at 11.45am.

24th July - Roger Evans, Tony Keeling, Dave Murphy (sub for Mike Hatley) & Carl Frostick used their 'get out of jail card free' last night as they won through to the East Herts Bowls League Fours Semi Finals. Playing on an awful Shire Park green, they were 7 shots down with just 2 ends to play - and promptly picked up a 3 and a 5 to win by 1 shot. Well done lads.
Buntingford have previously won the Bowls League Fours - but this dates back as far as 1924 & 1925, so we wish the lads well nearly 100 years on from those successes!

23rd July - Buntingford Ladies lead the way at the halfway stage in Division A of the County League East after 2 wins in their first 3 games. Well done Ladies and keep it going......

23rd July - Buntingford's Men fell short in their Quarter Final match against Bishop's Stortford in the County Club Championship (3x Fours). Two rinks were close but unfortunately one rink went down by 10 shots (sorry). This is the furthest the club have gone in this competition in the Clubs history.
The team was:
Ross Murphy, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling & Mark Plume.
Stan Keen, Peter Warren, Bryan Davies & Carl Frostick.

Roger Evans, Mick Marks, Vic Greenberg & Dave Murphy.

21st July - Mick Marks was the winner of the Fi xed Jack competition with John Collins as Runner Up (again). 26 Members entered on a hot sunny day. Rosemary Webber & June Renney provided an excellent lunch, and thanks also go to Roger Evans & Bryan Davies for squeezing 7 rinks into the green. Ellen Amos won the 'Spider' on the day and thank you to everyone that donated raffle prizes.

20th July - Roger Evans, Bryan Davies (Subbing for Scott Wake), Dave Murphy & Carl Frostick cruised into the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Fours after a 27-10 win at Rosehill against Malcolm Songer. Well done lads.

20th July - Buntingford still have strong representatives in the East Herts Bowls League Competitions as we reach the Quarter Final Stage:
Fours -
Roger Evans, Mike Hatley, Tony Keeling & Dave Murphy
Pairs - Ross Murphy & Bryan Davies, Greg Amos & Dave Murphy
Mixed Pairs - Sue Batchelor & Ross Murphy
We wish them all well in their upcoming matches.

20th July - CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK PLUME ON HIS NOMINATION.

It has been recommended that your names go through for Senior England International Trial selection

19th July - The EHBA Clean Sweep is still on (no pressure then Bunty Boys).
We're down to the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals in most of the EHBA Competitions and Buntingford still have representatives in all 10 competitions. The EHBA Finals Day this year is being held at our home club and  we wish all of our Buntingford Members well as they push for places in the Finals.

18th July - Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume now know their opponents for their first round match at Leamington Spa in the Bowls England National Triples Championships - and I think it's going to be quite a game......
They face a triple from Buckinghamshire that include a current England International player. Two of the players have won a National title, and the other has been a National Runner Up on m ore than one occasion.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.........

18th July - There have been some thumping wins for Buntingford Bowls Club this season across a number of competitions. The 'Club Record Wins' page has now been updated.

17th July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after a comfortable victory against Cheshunt 52-21.

16th July - Buntingford's Men got their County League campaign underway with a thumping win at Datchworth. On two very tricky rinks the Bunty Boys notched up a massive 56-13 victory.

14th July - Part Two of 'Super-Saturday' was oh so close...........
At the halfway stage of the Bowls England Tony Allcock Trophy at Rosedale the Buntingford Team led by 9 shots across the two rinks, only to be pegged back and over taken towards the end. With just a couple of ends to play Buntingford were just 4 shots adrift and it was still anybody's to win. But Rosedale killed an end and then picked up shots. Despite a great effort by the team Buntingford bowed out of the competition at the Last 32 stage nationally. The team created Buntingford history along the way and deserve a lot of credit for reaching this far into the competition - a first for the club.

Phil Geere, Chris Hatley, Dinah Geere & Vic Greenberg 19-19
Debbie Marks, Val Moules, Mike Hatley & Tony Keeling 11-19
Thank you to the 10 supporters that turned up to cheer the team on, and to
Roger for keeping some members up to date of the match scores via text during every end of the game.

14th July - Part One of 'Super-Saturday' is complete after Buntingford's Men thumped Bovingdon in the Bowls England National Two Fours 59-25.
The win now puts the club into the Last 32 in England and is the first time in the Club's History they have reached this stage. This win is also the joint second highest winning margin in this competition for the Bunty Boys.

Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender won 24-12. Dave Murphy, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won 35-13.
Well done lads and we wish you well in your Last 32 match against the Bedfordshire qualifiers Houghton Regis. The date of this match is still to be confirmed.

14th July - Elsewhere this morning Hertfordshire travelled to Norfolk for their 5th League match out of 6 in the Eastern Counties League. Hertfordshire won the match against Norfolk and now cannot be caught at the top of the league and are therefore crowned CHAMPIONS. Playing in the previous league games were Buntingford's Dave Murphy, Peter Warren, Ross Murphy, Carl Frostick, Garry Warrender & Mark Plume. Well done to the Bunty Boys.

A big day for Buntingford Bowls Club on Saturday 14th July:
Buntingford's Men play in the Hertfordshire Area Final and for a place in the Last 32 of the Country in the National Club Two Fours at home 9.30am.
And later that day at 6pm
Buntingford play for a place in the Last 16 of the Country as they take on Rosedale (away) in the National Tony Allcock Trophy.
Please come along and support your club. Thank you.

This was the round of Last 64 Nationally and the team romped into the Last 32 in England and the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire Area Final after a stonking 47-28 win.
The victorious team was;
Stan Keen, Phil Geere, Chris Hatley & Dinah Geere 28-14, Debbie Marks, Roxana Clifton, Mike Hatley & Tony Keeling 19-14.  Well done to everyone!  Rosedale are up next and Buntingford Bowls Club are now just 2 wins from reaching Leamington and the Bowls England National Championships.............

7th July - A successful Presidents day for Dinah Geere in the baking hot sunshine at Buntingford. Aswell as the bowling, £600 was raised for Dinah's chosen charity - Macmillan Nurses. This was through the Spider, Raffle and generous donations from the players. Well done to everybody involved.

6th July - Congratulations to Dinah Geere for making it through to the Quarter Finals of the EHDWBA Singles with a 21-13 victory after storming 11-2 in front early on. By my records no Lady Member from Butingford has reached this far into the competition and we wish Dinah well in her next match.

6th July - Buntingford's Men romped into the Quarter Finals of the Hertfordshire County Club Championship (3x Fours) for only the second time in the clubs history after beating (thrashing) Northaw & Cuffley 67-35.

A grand total of £1000 will be shared equally between the two nominated charities, Isabel Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care both of whom provided wonderful support.

2nd July - A unique result in the latest EHBL Buntingford Bears match with both rinks drawing. Both came back from losing positions with one rink 16-3 behind and the other 11-1 behind. Well done team.

2nd July - The latest edition of the Buntingford Bowls Club Newsletter has been uploaded to the website.

1st July - Buntingford's Men cruised into the Hertfordshire Area Final of the Bowls England National Two Fours. The win against Potten End by 43-20 takes the club into the Last 64 Nationally. The rink of Ross Murphy, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender had a low scoring game and after 14 ends only 15 shots has been scored in total. A few ends later and they finished winning 15-9. The rink of Roger Evans, Peter Warren, Scott Wake & Mark Plume also had a tight game and after 18 ends both sides had won 9 ends each. However, in those 9 ends they only dropped 11 shots, and scored 28. Well done lads.

On Monday 2nd July at 8.45am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club website stood at 43541.

A tough encounter now awaits as the team face Sandy Conservative Bowls Club in their next game and we wish the team all the best.

24th June - Buntingford Bowls Club hosted the EHBA match against North West Essex and thank you to everyone that supported on the day. A couple of photograph's below show our Club Chairman handing over the green to the Presidents of both Asssociations - and this is the award you'll get for finishing as the highest losing rink........ A great funny momento of the day....

23rd June - Hertfordshire rounded off their Middleton Cup campaign with a rather flat and lackluster performance against Norfolk. The Team Manager had made number of positional changes and had bought new personel into the team from the previous week - and I'm afraid it just didn't work as the players didn't really buy into it and it resulted in a heavy defeat. The team did win on 2 rinks and Carl Frostick was on one of those winning rinks having played against former World Champion Mervyn King. Carl Frostick was playing in his 50th game for Hertfordshire and many congratulations on reaching this milestone.
Mark Plume came up against World Indoor Semi Finalist Wayne Willgress and went down to a heavy defeat.
Over the 4 Middleton Cup games this season
Carl Frostick won 3 out of his 4 games, Mark Plume won 2 out of his 4 games and Garry Warrender won 1 of his 3 games. Thank you once again to the supporters that turned up at Welwyn & District Bowls Club to cheer the team on. It is much appreciated.

22nd June - Buntingford's Men snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after going down against Oak Hill in the County Team Ten Compeition. With the Singles and Pairs both winning, it came down to the Triples and Fours - but unfortunately both went down by more shots that Singles & Pairs had won by. The match score finished 2-2, but Oak Hill progressed by 3 shots overall.

On Friday 22nd June at 8.45am the total visitors to the Buntingford Bowls Club website stood at 43200.
There have been 3750 views so far in 2018 averaging 22 views every single day. Thank you so much.

20th June - Mick Marks fine run to the Last 16 of the Hertfordshire County Unbadged Singles came to an end after a fantastic battle at Welwyn Garden City. Mick put up a great fight going down just 21-18. Hard luck.
Dinah Geere also bowed out at the Last 16 stage after a fine run in the competition.

20th June - Buntingford's Men came through a tough test against Much Hadham in the EHBA Thurgood Cup to book their place into the Quarter Finals of the competition. Well done lads.

20th June - Greg Amos & Dave Murphy came through their second round match of the EHBL Pairs away at Welwyn & District. This match was due to be played at home, but a full green meant they had to travel to their oppponents. Well done both of you.

19th June - Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender won the battle of Buntingford in the County Pairs after an extra end victory against Scott Wake & Carl Frostick. This win takes the Bunty Boys into the Last 16 of the competition and we wish them all the best.

18th June - Dave Murphy is into the last 16 of the County Singles. Well done and we wish you well in the next round.

17th June - Congratulations to former member Peter Agnew on his qualification for the Bowls England National Championships.
Our 'Aggers', playing for his new club Luton Town has reached the Bedfordshire County Fours Final. We wish him all the best at Leamington Spa in August.

17th June - Buntingford's Men have made it through to the 4th Round of the National Two Fours after victory against Whitethorn on what can only be described in polite terms as a 'very tricky green'. Well done lads.

16th June - Hertfordshire travelled to Suffolk in their latest Middleton Cup Game and unfortunately the result didn't fully justify the high quality bowls that were on show.
Garry Warrender, on his rink raced into a 9 shot lead early on, but was pegged back and fell to a 6 shot defeat. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume had a close encounter all the way through their game and despite the last end being killed twice, they went down but just 3 shots. The atmosphere was excellent with lots of noise coming from the players, and from those watching from the sidelines. A big thank you to the supporters that travelled to cheer on the team.

15th June - Buntingford's Men battled past Sele Farm in the County Club Championship (Three Fours Competition) to reach the Last 16 of the competition.

14th June - Three Buntingford Pairs have made it through to the Last 32 of the County Pairs competition. Peter Warren & Bryan Davies have made it through - and our other two pairs now have to play each other. Carl Frostick & Scott Wake will take on Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender.

13th June - Great news for Mick Marks as he battles through to the last 16 of the Hertfordshire County Unbadged Singles with a 21-15 victory. We wish Mick all the best in the next round.

13th June - A win for the Bunty Girls of Chris Hatley, Val Moules & Dinah Geere in the first round of the EHDWBA Triples 20-15 at Sawbridgeworth. Well done.

13th June - Dave Murphy (subbing for Roger Evans) and partner Debbie Marks came through their first round match of the EHBL Mixed Pairs 20-12. But wait......... News just in........ A technicality means that the match has now been awarded to their opponents....... Oops!

12th June - Newcomer Dave Murphy remains our only hope in the Mens County Singles as he is the lone survivor...... Dave had a relatively easy win last night and we wish him well in the next round.

11th June - Bryan Davies & Ross Murphy comfortably won through their EHBL Pairs. Well done.

10th June - Congratulations to our Buntingford Team as they have won their latest match in the Tony Allcock Trophy. This is a Senior Mixed Two Fours competition and they progressed with victory against Sawbridgeworth 42-34.
Never before have Buntingford gone as far in this competition, and this win puts our Buntingford Team into the 4th Round of the competition and we wish then all the best in their next match.

10th June - Well done to Carl Frostick as he won through to the nxt round of the EHBA Singles with a 21-9 victory against Sawbridgeworth's Nick Goff.

10th June - Hertfordshire took on Cambridgeshire in the Balcomb Trophy (Top Two Fours) and Buntingford's Mark Plume was skipping one of those rinks - and unfortunately got battered! It wasn't to be on their rink as the opposition totally outplayed the Hertfordshire rink. The other Hertfordshire rink did win, and even though it did come down to the last bowl of the game, Hertfordshire didn't progress to the next round.
Once again a big thank you to the
Buntingford supporters that showed up to cheer the lads on.

9th June - Matthew & Ross Murphy's run in the National Family Pairs came to an end at the 3rd Round stage against a very experienced pair at Garston. This is only the second time Buntingford have had an entry in this competition and after receiving a Bye in the first round, and winning their second round match comfortably, they have created history by going further than anyone else from Buntingford in this competition. Well done to both of you.

9th June - Hertfordshire took on Huntingdonshire at Welwyn & District bowls club in their latest Middleton Cup match. The Hunts team contained World Champion Nick Brett and a number of England Champions and Internationals - but they were no match for the Hertfordshire team as they ran out winners 16 points to 6, and by 23 shots. (2 points for a winning rink and 10 points for winning the match overall).
Garry Warrrender did face former World Champion Nick Brett on his rink and they didn't really recover from a slow start and went down by a few shots.
Carl Frostick & Mark Plume faced the current National Triples holder and from 16-9 down, picked up a 6 and a 5 in consecutive ends and never looked back to win 27-16.
Thank you to the
Buntingford supporters that came to watch.

8th June - Even more headlines made this time in the EHBL Pairs. Greg Amos was our headline maker...... This was his first victory of the season. Well done Greg. And thanks to partner Dave Murphy.

8th June - Following on from the big headlines the evening before, another headline was made in the EHBA Triples game involving Roger Evans, Scott Wake & Carl Frostick at Bishop's Stortford. Winning the game wasn't the headline (well done lads by the way), but one of the Clubs coaches that helps the potential new members to Buntingford Bowls Club, and helps coach the Junior Bowlers from Hertfordshire showed everyone how not to do it - by bowling a wrong bias! Thanks for the memories Roger.

7th June - A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 'BUNTY BOYS'!!!
CARL FROSTICK, SCOTT WAKE & MARK PLUME HAVE REACHED THE HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY TRIPLES FINAL AND BOOKED THEIR PLACE AT THE BOWLS ENGLAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LEAMINGTON SPA.

On a terrible green and a terrible rink at Hatfield the semi final wasn't going to be an easy game. The boys did however go into a 15-5 lead just after halfway through the game, but on that rink anything was possible - and it was. Heavy wood after heavy wood, pieces of luck here and there from the opposition saw the Jack and woods pinging anywhere and everywhere, and that saw the Bunty Boys drop shots and the Ware team clawed their way back.
15-5 became 16-9 with 3 ends to play. Holding 3 shots with just one wood to come and the match could have been all over but another piece of luck saw them drop a single shot after 2 wicks!. Next end and again no luck saw them drop a 2 and it was 16-12 going into the last end. Holding 2 after Burnsy had bowled and then there was another heavy wood from the opposing number two and with it came another piece of luck and it saw the Bunty Boys go 3 shots down. Wakey draws shot and whack - out it goes for 4 down! Plummie then draws the shot - and then whack! The shot goes out of the head and its 3 down this time. One wood to come from the Ware skip and he couldn't move anything this time. A huge sigh of relief and the Bunty Boys took a tactical 3 down to win the match by 1 shot. Well done lads!
Thank you for the support from
Roger Evans, Peter Warrren, Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg and our faithful regulars Ellen & Greg Amos.

In 2015 the Bunty Boys reached the National Triples Semi Finals, and this year their first round match will be played on Thursday 23rd August 9.30am at Leamington Spa against a Triple from Buckinghamshire.
Supporters are very welcome.

6th June - Wins for 4 Buntingford Pairs and into the 3rd Round of the County Pairs go Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender, Vic Greenberg & Mark Plume, Peter Warren & Bryan Davies and Carl Frostick & Scott Wake. Well done lads.

5th June - The 'Two Murphy's' and Garry Warrender are the survivors for Buntingford in the County Singles as they progressed with wins. Well done to Ross, Dave & Garry.
There was disappointment for Tony Keeling, Mark Plume and Dinah Geere as they all had a bad day at the office.

5th June - Bryan Davies progressed to the next round of the EHBA Singles after a fine victory against David Hunt from Bishop's Stortford.

4th June - Mark Plume has won through to the next round of the National Champion of Champions after a 21-18 victory at Garston Bowls Club against Jerry Rumball.

4th June - Ross Murphy & Garry Warrender won the battle of Buntingford against Scott Wake & Carl Frostick in the EHBA Pairs 25-20. Detectives are still looking into the evidence of how one of Burnsy's woods disappeared and then re-appeared suddenly at the other end of the green.......

4th June - It is with sad news to announce the passing of Joan Bushell.
Joan had been a member of the club for a number of years and in her time was a 2-time Club Champion winning the Williams Singles in 2014, and the Ladies Four Wood Pairs in 2016. Thoughts are with Brian and family at this difficult time.

3rd June - Buntingford's Men progressed to the 3rd round of the Bowls England National Two Fours competition with victory against Welwyn & District Bowls Club 44-26. The rink of Peter Warren, Tony Keeling, Carl Frostick & Garry Warrender were convincing winners 26-11, whereas Ross Murphy, Vic Greenberg, Scott Wake & Mark Plume had a much closer game winning by just 1 shot 16-15.
We are sure that Scott Wake did infact turn up and play because we vaguely remember him having 1 good wood - but we're still waiting for confirmation on that..........
# Saving himself for the County Triples Semi Finals later this week.

3rd June - The weekend bowlers of Buntingford had a very enjoyable trip to Cheshunt Bowls Club. It was nice to see Jan & David Ward, and Derek Edgson playing on the green which also saw Dave Baxter return to his old club.

3rd June - Congratulations to Mark Plume as he has been selected in the Hertfordshire Balcomb Trophy squad to face Cambridgeshire at Wewlyn & District Bowls Club on Sunday 10th June at 10am.
The Balcomb Trophy is a National 2 rink competition and to be selected in this squad of just 10 players is a real honour.

3rd June - The latest edition of the Buntingford Bowls Club Newsletter has been uploaded to this website.

2nd June - Hertfordshire took on Northamptonshire at Kingsthorpe Bowls Club in their first Middelton Cup match - and what an unusual result it was! Hertfordshire won on 4 rinks, drew on another and lost on one - but lost the match overall but 12 shots and 13 points to 9 (2 points for a winning rink, 1 for a draw and 10 points for the overall score). Unfortunately one rink lost 32-7.
Garry Warrender had an excellent game and was never behind on the scoreboard. Playing third on his rink they won 21-17. Carl Frostick and Mark Plume faced former England International and multi National Champion Paul Broderick, and after being 15-8 down mid-way through the game they clawed their way back. However they went into the last end 20-23, and then picked up a four to win on their rink by 1 shot.

A massive thank you to our faithful supporters
Ellen & Greg Amos for travelling a long way to support the Hertfordshire Team and the Buntingford players.

1st June - Kings Langley travelled a long way to Buntingford for the latest round of the County Top Ten competition and Burnsy made sure it was worth their while.......
1-0 up after the singles had finished and the Pairs and Triples were in total control. The Fours were a bit behind but Buntingford were cruising into the next round - or so we thought.
Peter Warren, Vic Greenberg & Carl Frostick decided to make it a bit more interesting than that.......
They were 12-0 up and then 15-1 up - surely it was just a matter of time before they shook hands. But then the weather changed and from 15-1 up they started to get pegged back, and then were overtaken, and then finished 17-19 down, Oops!
So the match finished with 2 wins for each side, and Buntingford progressed to the last 16 in Hertfordshire on shot countback. Well done lads.

31st May - The Bunty Boys romped into the Semi Finals of the County Triples after winning their quarter final match 24-11 against a trio from Potters Bar. The green at Cheshunt was (now how can I put this politely.....) was not fitting to hold the County Triples Quarter Finals! Once the boys had put their arms back in their sockets after the trial ends they never looked back. They raced into an 11-1 lead, then 16-4 at 9 ends and it was all but over.
This now puts
Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume just 1 game from reaching the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington.

The County Triples Semi Finals will be played at Hatfield Bowls Club on Thursday 7th June at 6pm. The Bunty Boys will take on R Carter, Graham Indge & Vic Goodey from Ware.

Please come along and support your club. Thank you

29th May - Dinah Geere & Ross Murphy came so close to victory in the Bowls England National Mixed Pairs as they faced former England Under 25 Junior International and former Buntingford Bowls Club member Matt Coppen, and current England Under 25 Junior International Rachel Tremlett from Royston.
At 11-1 down the match could have been all over early on, but Dinah and Ross dug deep to pull back and take the lead 16-13. They were then pegged back to 17-17 after 21 ends and unfortunately went down on the 'Extra End'.
A great game and hard luck.

29th May - A new pairing of Mike Hatley & Dave Murphy that were put together at the last minute came through a tough encounter in the Hertfordshire County Pairs against Middleton Cup Trialist Arron Prowle from Datchworth 20-18. Well done.

21st May - New photographs have been added to the EHBA Finals Gallery.

20th May - A 'HOTSHOT' for Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick as they romped into the next round of the EHBA Mixed Pairs winning 30-13

19th May - Four Buntingford players took their place on a very fast green in the latest Eastern Counties League match as Hertfordshire took on Cambridgeshire at Welwyn & District Bowls Club. Peter Warren was making his County debut on what was probably the trickiest rink. They pushed their opponents close but just fell short in the end. Dave Murphy's rink had a big lead early on, then were pegged back to level scores but pushed on and ran out winners by 11 shots. Carl Frostick's rink were never behind and were comfortable winners by 10 shots. Mark Plume was drawn to play against their England International Skip with the match very tight throughout. With Mark's last bowl to play the rink trailled 18-20 on the scoreboard, and were 3 down at the head. Mark then played the perfect bowl to trail the Jack to pick up the 3 shots and win the match 21-20.
Hertfordshire won the match overall by 18 points to 4, and now top the Eastern Counties League with 3 wins out of their 3 matches played.
This game counted towards Middleton Cup selection with the team being picked after the next Eastern Counties League match on the 26th May. 7 of our Buntingford players are in contention and we wish them all well.

18th May - Buntingford's Men cruised into Round Two of the County Top Team competition with a 4-0 win against Riverain. The Singles and Triples were pushed close, but the Pairs and Fours ran out comfortable winners. Well done lads. And a big thank you to Rosemary Webber for an excellent meal.

17th May - 2 wins from 2 games in their new Division in the East Herts Bowls League for the Buntingford Bears. A great start.

16th May - Carl Frostick, Scott Wake & Mark Plume won the battle of Buntingford in the County Triples as they defeated Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender 22-6 to reach the last 16.

14th May - Well done to Dinah Geere & Ross Murphy in the Natiional Mixed Pairs after they came through a tough encounter against Hoddesdon & Rye Park. After 11 ends only 12 shots had been scored, but 8 shots in the next 4 ends saw the Buntingford Pair go 13-7 in front. They were pegged back to 13-13 with just 2 ends to play but held their nerve to go through to the next round 17-13. Well done.

Stan Keen (Subbing for Scott Wake), Carl Frostick & Mark Plume recovered from 8-3 down to win 21-10. And it was slightly more comfortable for Ross Murphy, Tony Keeling & Garry Warrender as they finished up winning by nearly 20 shots. Garry's Triple will now play Mark's triple in the next round.

10th May - A great turnout for the 'Free Lessons' as 17 turned up to give it a go. Thanks go to our coaches of Eddie Plume, Mike Hatley & Roger Evans, together with helpers Dinah Geere & John Collins.

6th May - Back at Welwyn & District Bowls Club again this morning for the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Trial. The County were very open and said that from the Hertfordshire team that reached the Middleton Cup Quarter Finals last year, there are a minimum of 5 places up for grabs in this years Squad. A very open approach which lifted all those vying for a place.
51 players took to the green including 7 players from Buntingford Bowls Club. The Middleton Cup Team will be picked at the end of May and we wish our Trialists all the best:
Carl Frostick, Dave Murphy, Garry Warrender, Mark Plume, Peter Warrren, Ross Murphy and Vic Greenberg.

5th May - Mark Plume made his Hertfordshire Senior County debut on the 11th May 1996, today 22 years on he celebrated playing his 150th game for Hertfordshire with a win on his rink by 5 shots. On a hot sunny morning Hertfordshire took on Essex in the Eastern Counties League at Welwyn & District Bowls Club and won the overall match comfortably. Dave Murphy was also representing Buntingford in his first game for his new club and came up against the 2017 Bowls England Player of the Year Ed Morris. After a very tight match his rink went down by 1 shot on the very last end.

5th May - Buntingford hosted Hoddesdon Rosehill in the clubs first home Friendly match of the season and kicked off with a win.

Some Indoor news just in:
Success for Buntingford Bowls Club at Riverain Bowls Club as the squad of Mike Hatley, Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Brian Bushell, Rick Brown & John Collins won the Wednesday Afternoon Winter League. A close title race saw 2 teams finish on the same points, but the Bunty Boys won the League by virtue of a greater shot difference. Well done lads.

29th April - On a freezing cold day, Roger Evans & Eddie Plume were joined by former England International Captain John Rednall as they coached the Hertfordshire Under 25 Team at Bishop's Stortford. I don't think people realise how much time and effort goes into organising a day like this and thank you to Roger & Eddie. Throughout the day different coaching sessions were in operation and then there were 3 separate sessions where some of the Under 25 team took on some of the Hertfordshire Middleton Cup Team to give them some valuable practice. Mark Plume was involved in those games across the whole of the day.

28th April - The Friendly season got underway on a damp afternoon at Sawbridgeworth and there was a 1 shot victory for the Buntingford Team. Well done.

28th April - So I was asked at work this what what I was doing at the weekend? I told them that its the first bowls games of the new season. To which came the response "So thats why its raining then!".
I'm sure the sun will come back out eventually...... Happy bowling everybody.

The '
Club History' page has been updated with more information about our great club.

22nd April - And the first game got underway as 36 players took to the green for the Annual Spoon Drive. The winner was Ray Bedborough, with Marion Maher and Ross Murphy winning the 'Spider'. The sun shone, and then there was a downpour but everyone was now up and running for the season. A big thank you to Liz Cooper and all of the helpers on the day.

21st April - The Sun was shining as the clubhouse opened for the start of the new outdoor season. Just under 40 members were in attendance cleaning, cutting, clearing and carrying something to get the club ready for the first game the following day. Both inside and outside the clubhouse were given a  makeover and considering the rain, snow and more rain we'd had over the last few weeks the green was in good shape. Thank you to everyone that gave up their time to support their club.

14th April - The annual pre-season social took place last night. The food was of it's usual high standard and good fun was had by all - and everyone especially enjoyed Mike Grimsdale's version of 'play your cards right'. The night was a lovely opportunity to meet up with fellow bowlers after the winter. And the sun shone for what seemed like the first time this year and the green looked superb. With the new alterations to the surrounds recently completed, it made everyone want to have a roll-up there and then.
Not long now folks - just a week to go........

14th April - A reminder to all members that the club opens on Saturday morning (21st April) and we would be grateful if all members could lend an hour or 2 and come down from 10.00am to get the Clubhouse and surrounds ready for the start of the Outdoor season.
You'll all then have the opportunity to roll your first woods towards the Jack on Sunday (22nd) in the first Spoon Drive of the season.

Please come along and support your club. Thank you.

18th February - Is it a record? Has history been created at Buntingford Bowls Club? It might just be.........
Buntingford aren't known as an Indoor Bowls Club, but they travel throughout the winter to visit clubs to keep their bowling arms in ready for the outdoor season. And on the odd occasion we may have 1 winning rink, maybe even two, or an outside chance of winning on three rinks - but to win a game is virtually impossible. However take a look at this:

                               Hatfield_Indoor_v_Buntingford_18th_Feb_2018
Phil Geere, Jenny Newington, Charles Oates & Dinah Geere Won 39-10
Carol Cain, Ray Beborough, Chris Hatley & Ross Murphy Won 27-18
Jim Jaycock, Grace Gibbs, Dave Clifton & Mike Hatley 12-25
Mary Smith, Frank Beale, Roxana Clifton, John Collins 17-32

26th January - Sad news to announce the passing of 2 of our former members. Barry Gravett was only at the club for a short time with his wife Sue, and Alan Wall a former Two Wood Pairs Champion has also passed on. Thoughts are with friends and Family.
                       Barry Gravett                            Alan Wall

20th January - It is with sad regret to announce the passing of Harry Brant.
Harry was probably the oldest member to ever grace the Buntingford Bowls Club green, and what a character he really was. Harry would like to deliver his wood with a 'clap', and always had a quirk or a funny comment to make about the game he was playing in. Harry was also the subject of a Hertfordshire Mercury column report that mentioned Bowls is a sport for all ages.
Harry was the winner of the Club Two Wood Pairs competition twice, and finished up as Runner Up in 4 other club competitions. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

1st January 2018
So, did we beat the record for most visitors to this website in a Calendar Year? ...............It was so, so close, but we didn't quite make it.
We need to spread the word more in 2018
We have a great Bowls Club with great members achieving so many fantastic things both on and off the green. Increasing visitors to this website will help increase our profile across Hertfordshire and no other Club has the values of 'A Club for all Ages, Abilities and Aspirations'. This is such a powerful message, so please share.
Increasing our Profile through this website and through our new Facebook page will help promote our club and maybe attract more Sponsors bringing more revenue to the club. If you send me in your news stories, i'll publish them on this website. If you send me in your photograph's, i'll publish them on this website. If you send me any information on upcoming events, i'll publish them on this website.
Please can all members support in raising the external profile of the Club as I can't do all of this alone. Thank you.
