An email received from Hertfordshire County President, Graham Searle:           I am writing to thank you and the members of Buntingford Bowls Club for the exceptional hospitality you extended to Sue and I on the occasion of your Annual Dinner and Presentation evening.

Both Sue and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with you, Sue saying on the journey home, "What a lovely group of people".  I endorse that comment.

We were received in a wonderful manner and the meal that you set before us was excellent.  Sue particularly enjoyed dessert having two!!!!

The bouquet you presented to Sue is still adorning our house and the bottle you gave to me still awaits opening but it will not be long!!!!!

Please pass on my genuine thanks to all concerned for the memorable evening and I look forward to visiting Buntingford again soon.

Kind regards

Graham

10th October - A friendly game outdoors in October, surely not? The weather will be terrible, the greens will be soft, divots will appear..... Well put all of that to the back of your mind as 12 Buntingford 'pioneers' on a hot and sunny day, ventured to the 'all weather' green at Bishop's Stortford for a first ever meeting between the 2 clubs in October.... A great afternoon had by all - and of course the Bunty Boys and Girls will be back next year to do it all over again.

It is with sad regret to inform you of the sad news that Beat Stone passed away on Wednesday 7th October.

Beat will be remembered for her great competitiveness and will enter the history books as one of the most successful Ladies Buntingford Bowls Club has ever had. Beat won 20 Club Competitions in all, winning her first competition in 1996, with her last trophy coming in 2013 when she won the Ladies Club Championship Singles Title.

Beat was part of the Ladies Monday Evening League winning teams and was also part of the first ever Ladies Team to reach an External Club competition when representing Buntingford in the EHDWBA Anniversay Cup.

The Club would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to John, Denise and Family.

Funeral arrangements will be shared once the details become available.

3rd October - Thank you to everyone for their support throughout today in supporting our Green keepers John Hay & Jerry Rumball in putting our 'green to sleep for the winter'. By my count 24 members turned up from the crack of dawn to late this afternoon and we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to everyone that gave up their time to support their club. Ladies Captain end of season report:

Well, the bowling season is fast coming to a close and a time to reflect on the achievements of the Ladies section of the Club.  The motto for the past season has been ‘progress not perfection’ and the ladies continue to improve in both their standard of play and mental attitude. Buntingford retained the Alma Skinner Cup by beating Stansted away, we also retained the Newman Cup which is played over two legs against Standon & Puckeridge, we won by 22 points!  The Monday Night league finishing position was 7th. In the Anniversary Cup we were beaten away at Much Hadham. We progressed to the semi-final of the Challenge Cup by beating Northaw & Cuffley with the semi-final against Sele Farm at home. Although we lost the match, the ‘fours’ won on their rink. Sele Farm also beat us the Top 10 Club competition, but we have the ability to rise to any challenge cheerfully and play our best. Buntingford entered two squads in the Bowls League, the County League ‘north division’ finished in third place, which is highly commendable, the ‘south division’ finished in 7th place.  Congratulations, too, to Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick who made it through to the semi-finals of the East Herts Pairs.  Thank you to the ladies who played throughout the season and deserve a special mention: Dinah Geere, Val Moules, Beat Stone, Debbie Marks, Mary Smith, Chris Hatley, Jenny Hawes, Julie Hughes, Jenny Newington, Rose Webber, Joan Bushell, Roxana Clifton, Grace Gibbs, Joan Branagan, Ellen Amos, Joan Wilson, Jenny Brown and Jackie Thomas. Jackiealso deserves another thank you for continuing to run the ‘midweek madness’ matches so efficiently.

The Ladies section continues to work ‘behind the scenes’ to ensure that the club prospers and flourishes, this involves providing meals and support for theEHBL Bulls & Bears matches and also any County/East Herts. Matches etc. that are held at the club during the week.  Both gala's were catered for by the ‘usual suspects’ aka ‘the kitchen crew’ who provided breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea for the men’s gala and lunch and tea for the ladies gala.  Thank you to Rosemary Webber for providing her ‘bottle tombola’ for the ladies gala and served behind the bar all day at the men’s gala.  This core of ladies also do their fair share of bar-rota duties, organising raffles etc, this is as well as their annual tea duties and all the little ‘housekeeping jobs’ that need doing around the clubhouse.  I would also like to thank, on a personal level, Dinah Geere & Jenny Hawes for supporting me this season as, firstly, vice-captain and then captain.... their wisdom & support probably averted a few disasters on my part.

A big thank you to the 22 men that represented Buntingford in their Inter-Club competition campaign this season. Inter-Club competitions include National Two Fours, National Top Club, National Over 60's Mixed Two Fours, County League, County Top Team, County Three Fours, EHBA Thurgood Cup, EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy and EHBL Ranson Cup. In the 22 Inter-Club matches that were played across those competitions this season, the players were: Peter Agnew, Greg Amos, Rick Brown, Brian Bushell, Mick Cheeseman, John Collins, Bryan Davies, Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Phil Geere, Mike Grimsdale, John Hicks, Tony Keeling, Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen, Ross Murphy, Charles Oats, Mark Plume, John Powell, Len Purdy, George Swaby and Scott Wake.

6th September - East Herts Bowls Association Finals Day Results:

 - Buntingford's Men are Runners Up in the EHBA Thurgood Cup.

 - PETER AGNEW & MARK PLUME WIN THE EHBA PAIRS!!!.

Ware Bowls Club hosted an excellent Finals Day, and the morning session began for Buntingford's Men with the Thurgood Cup Final against Bishop's Stortford. 25 or so Bishop's Stortford members lined the side of the green to cheer their team on. For Buntingford we were very outnumbered, but had the usual suspects of the Wags and Scott Wake, Carl Frostick, Eddie Plume & Jenny Hawes supporting. The game started in Buntingford's Favour early on but a big count against one of the rinks meant the Bunty Boys were then up against it. One rink finished winning by 2 shots, but the other rink didn't fully recover from going behind early on and Buntingford finished with the Runners Up spot. Well done to the team ofRoger Evans, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling, Mark Plume; Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen, Peter Agnew and John Powell.

The afternoon session started in glorious sunshine and saw the EHBA Pairs Final for Peter Agnew & Mark Plume playing against Whit Hern. The support in the morning for Bishop's Stortford was immense, but for Whit Hern it just seemed that their whole club turned up in the afternoon to cheer their team on with all of the seats taken, leaving standing room only! For Buntingford there was less support in the afternoon than the morning session, but thank you toLiz & Mike Cooper for turning up, Roger Evans, Tony & Jenny Keeling, Carl Frostick, Eddie Plume, Jenny Hawes for staying on after the morning session, and also to Ross Murphy for showing support. For the game the Bunty Boys were really up against it and found themselves 12-3 behind after 10 ends with nothing going for them. A four on the 11th end bought the Bunty Boys back in the game, followed by another four, and then a two, and from nowhere the Bunty Boys were now in the lead - and never looked back!. 27-14 was the final score and the Bunty Boys romped to victory. Battling through 6 rounds and winning every game comfortably, Peter Agnew and Mark Plume deserved to be crowned East Herts Bowls Association Pairs Champions.

Support really does matter when your own club members reach external finals.

 - Mark Plume finished the day with 3 Titles and won his 14th Club Championship Singles Title.

 - The Junior Singles Final was an excellent and very close encounter. With the Final played over 18 ends, it required an 'extra end' to find the Champion. Well done to Jake Andrews.

Thank you to the markers for the matches, the umpire, the members in the kitchen, the helpers behind the bar, those that set the green up, and to everyone else that came and supported their club on Finals Day.

Club Finals Day on Saturday 5th September. Please come along and support your Finalists.......

4th September - Ladies Challenge Cup Semi Final result and unfortunately it didn't go the way of the Bunty Ladies. A good result in the Fours, but unfortunately the Pairs and Triples went down, and the Singles was a closer affair against Sele Farm's former Ladies County Singles Champion June Lonergan. Hard Luck ladies.

2nd September - Congratulations to Joan & Brian Bushell and Chris & Mike Hatley for achieving second place in the Welwyn Garden City Mixed Fours Gala Day. Having won 2 games and lost one, they then faced John Dowler and Shirtley Pratchetts mixed four - and beat them to earn a creditable Runners Up spot. Well done!

The Buntingford Ladies go for glory this week when they play their Semi Final of 'The Challenge Cup' on 2nd September. We all wish them well as they do battle for a place in the Final.

31st August - The 'Buntingford Bulls' missed out on promotion by a small margin as they finished 4th in the EHBL Division Three - but only 2 points off second place. They won 10 of their 15 games played which is a fantastic achievement, but the two points behind second place means they missed out on promotion by just one more winning rink........ A great team effort and everyone that played for the Buntingford Bulls should feel proud of their achievements.

30th August - Disappointment for Buntingford's Men as they were second best in the East Area League Cup Final. Playing Northaw & Cuffley on their home green was always going to be tough as one rink  just struggled to get going, whilst the other rink kept it tight. Qualification for the final for 6 straight years is a great achievement, but such a shame the team could not get a positive result. The team: Bryan Davies, Ross Murphy, Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick, Roger Evans, Greg Amos, Tony Keeling and Mark Plume

The Bowls England National Triples Championships at Leamington Spa. The story begins.......

History has re-written itself for Buntingford Bowls Club as Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume came oh so close to a National Final after being narrowly beaten in the National Triples Semi Finals. What a tournament for the lads and a fantastic achievement. The Bunty Boys not only did themselves proud, but the County proud, and of course our own club proud. The support was immense, the bowls were outstanding and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of a truly great team. Words just cannot explain what has taken place. The experience, the intensity of the competition and the waves of emotion that ran through the players and supporters throughout the tournament may never be matched again.........

The story begins..........

Playing against Durham in their first round match (Last 64 of the Country), the lads started slowly losing the first 2 ends and trailing 4-0. They then got on the  scoreboard and at 5-4 behind after 6 ends and holding 1 shot on the next end, Mark Plume gave the shot away with his last wood after trailing the jack just 2 inches too far. 6-4 down and maybe the luck was against them?? But oh no - the boys then realed off 10 ends in a row with some excellent bowling and shook hands 27-6 in front. The Bowls 'Samaritans' Team bus turned up at the start and there must have been as many as 50 supporters cheering the lads on and they didn't disappoint. What a great start for the Bunty Boys!!

The next round was a much tougher affair against Oxfordshire and was so close throughout. The boys went in front early on and kept the lead only to be pegged back after 16 ends with the scores tied at 16-16. Some great bowls followed on the 17th end from all 3 players with Mark Plume drawing 3 shots to add to the one they already held to pick up a four. The lads held their nerve on the last end and came away with a victory 20-17. Cue the celebrations and the Bunty Boys were through to day 2 and the Last 16 in the Country.

The Last 16 clash was against Lancashire and they new it was going to be a tough game but what a great start and the lads took an early lead - and kept it throughout the game. Excellent bowling all round again from all three players with the win coming on the 17th end after Mark Plume had turned the head around after being 5 down to pick up a single to see the boys through 21-13. The celebrations with the winning wood could have been heard for miles around as everyone erupted. Amazing stuff and the Quarter-Finals were up nextAnd who would have thought that Buntingford would be represented in the last 8 of the Country????

The Quarter Final match was against Sussex and all I can say it "What a game!". The bowling was yet again top class with all 3 players turning on the style and performing at their best. The Bunty Boys led by the odd shot, then went behind by one or two, went in front again but after 16 ends trailed 15-13. Carl Frostick and Scott Wake had an excellent 17th end. With the lads one down with one bowl to come, came maybe the shot of the day from Mark Plume to draw the jack off the shot bowl to pick up 3 shots and take the lead 16-15 going into the last end. The last end the lads held 1, then a lucky wick by their opponents bought in a shot against, then another bit of fortune put the boys 2 down. Mark took out 1 shot with his second bowl, their skip put it back and with Mark Plume's last bowl to come the Bunty Boys were 'game down' and heading out of the tournament. Mark bowled into the head and caught a bowl a foot short and then trundled in for shot. Holding the match the opposing skip bowled wide and the Bunty Boys had made it through to the last 4 of the Country and into the National Semi Finals - unbelievable stuff! Celebrations and emotions like you have never seen before. You had to be there to believe it - grown men crying. Wives and supporters with tears streaming down their faces. The Bunty Boys had made it through and there wasn't a dry eye to be seen.......

Semi Final and the Bunty Boys took a 6-1 lead early on and they were leading a National Semi Final. The green was lightening quick, and the bowls were again top class. The lads were pegged back and after 9 ends it was 9-9. 12-12 after 14 ends, 13-12 down after 15 ends, 16-12 down after 16 ends and then the boys got a well deserved 1 to go into the last end 16-13 behind. It was a tall order to get the 3 shots to tie to take it to an extra end but they did hold the 3 shots, only for the opposing skip to play up a short bowl and take away the glory for the Bunty Boys. Heartbreak at the end and again tears all round. Such a shame but what a tremendous achievement in reaching the Last Four in the Country and the National Triples Semi Finals.....

I can't leave this story without saying a massive thank you to our supporters.Greg and Ellen Amos stayed in Leamington all week to cheer us on. John Powell, Roger Evans did the same. Jayne Plume, Eddie Plume and Jenny Hawes were right behind us from the start. Carl's Mum and Dad were there all week supporting the ladsKen Mulqueen made the journey up to watch the Semi FinalAndy iles our old friend and club member travelled up especially for the match with his two daughters. The County, and the players & members from the clubs around Hertfordshire. There were followers by text, by Facebook, by phone call. Support does make a difference and all 3 of Carl, Scott and Mark were so glad you were there with us........

Carl Frostick, Scott Wake, Mark Plume - what a journey! From around 4500 Triples that entered this competition across the whole of the Country at the start of the season - you made it to the last 4 and the Semi Finals of the Bowls England National Triples Championships. So, so proud..........

13th August - *CONGRATULATIONS TO PETER AGNEW & MARK PLUME FOR REACHING THE FINAL OF THE EHBA PAIRS.* The Bunty Boys triumphed 28-8 in the Semi Finals beating the Hertfordshire County Pairs Finalists, Peter Warren & Garry Warrender. Well done lads!!

13th August - Gwen Beale & Carl Frostick's great run in the EHBA Mixed Pairs competition came to an end in the Semi Finals at a very heavy and very wet Hertford. Hard luck guys, but well done for reaching that stage of the competition.

9th August - More photo's added to the 'Fun Photo' section. Click on Fun Photo's, then 'Show all' and then scroll to the bottom - or simply select slide show and have a look at them all......

And here's all 8 of Stan's painting to date............... Well done Stan Keen!!!

Our resident artist Stan Keen has been at it again........another great job!

8th August - Buntingford Bulls are second in the latest EHBL Division Three table 7 points behind leaders Sawbridgeworth with 3 games to go. Promotion is definitely on the cards, and they could go up as Champions if results go in their favour. Good luck lads!

6th August - *CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BUNTY BOYS* Buntingford's Men have qualified for the East Area Cup Final after topping their group in the County League. Needing just 2 points to qualify in their last game against Bishop's Stortford the boys knew what they needed to do. The game swung in Bishop's Stortford way to start with, then Buntingfords, back again to Stortford and then finally Buntingford clinched victory and the points required. This is the 6th year in a row that the Bunty Boys have qualified for the final. The team was Roger Evans, Ken Mulqueen, Tony Keeeling, Mark Plume, Peter Agnew, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick and John PowellWell done lads!!Their opponents are yet to be names but the final takes place on Sunday 29th August.

6th August - Buntingford's Ladies had a great victory in their last County League match against Bishop's Stortford. This now puts them top of their qualifying group with other games yet to be played. If the results go in their favour, the Ladies could also find themselves in the East Area Final - Lets hope it works out that way for them!! Last nights team was Gwen Beale, Mary Smith, Val Moules and Dinah Geere.

4th August. It wasn't to be for the Bunty Boys in the EHBA Fours Semi Finals at Sawbridgeworth. Dave Clifton, Mike Grimsdale, George Swaby & Greg Amos shouldn't be too dis-heartened though as they had a great run and did exceptionally well to reach this stage of the competition. Well done lads!.Thanks also to the supporters that turned up to cheer the Bunty Boys on!

31st July - *HOTSHOT 8* for Gwen Beale and Carl Frostick as they won through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Mixed Pairs. Well done!

31st July - Peter Agnew and Mark Plume cruised through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Pairs after a 27-7 victory.

31st July - Buntingford Bears won their latest EHBL match with one rink winning by a lot, and the other rink losing by a lot - but the main thing is the team won overall. Well done to Roger Evans, Ross Murphy, Scott Wake, Mick Cheeseman, Phil Geere & John Hicks.

28th July - Buntingford's Men missed out by just 1 shot in their Lyndhurst Quarter Finals match against Bishop's Stortford. The 'home' triple of Roger Evans, Scott Wake and Mark Plume won by 4 shots, and the 'away' triple ofPeter Agnew, Carl Frostick and John Powell were beaten by 5 shots in a highly competitive match. Hard luck lads.

27th July - Buntingford's Men continued their fine start to their County League campaign with a hard fought win at Sawbridgeworth. With one rink losing by 2 shots, and the other rink winning by 7 shots now mean the Bunty Boys need only 1 winning rink in their final league match to top their group and reach the East Area League Cup Final for the 6th year running.

25th July - A great turn out for John Stone's Presidents Day at Buntingford and enjoyed by all that attended - and the sun even shone aswell. The players and supporters raised £536.42 for the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance and a massive thank you to everyone that put their hand in their pocket to support this great cause.

26th July - The Bunty Boys came ever so close in the County Triples Final but were beaten by just 1 shot in the end, 18-17 against Royston. The rain never stopped at Bishop's Stortford all throughout the game and it made for very difficult and tricky conditions. It was nip and tuck for the first few ends and bar 2 lucky shots by the opposition, the Bunty Boys could have found themselves a few in front, but after 9 ends the score was locked at 6-6. The boys slipped a few behind at 12-8 and were holding 1 when the opposition skip turned the head and made 5 shots. The score could have been 12-9, but it was now actually 17-8 with only 6 ends to play. 17-8 down became 18-9 a couple of ends later, and when 1 shot down with one bowl to come on the 15th end - the game looked well an truly over. Mark Plume then turned the 1 down into 3 up with his last wood and it was 18-12. 2 more on the next end made it 18-14, then another 2 and it was 18-16 with just one end to play. Carl Frostick andScott Wake had bowled their woods and the Bunty Boys were in a match winning position holding 3 shots........ only for a wide Royston bowl to come across the head from a wick and sit in for second shot. With Mark's last bowl he had a chance to take out their bowl to lie 3 and win the match, but the bowl held out on the green and he missed by the narrowest and smallest of margins....... and it was the County Triples 2015 Runners Up position for the Bunty Boys.........Great effort lads!!!

Thank you for those supporters from Buntingford that braved the weather to support the lads. It is very much appreciated.

23rd July - Buntingford's Men got their County League campaign underway with a thumping win against Ware. Roger Evans, Ken Mulqueen, Scott Wake and Mark Plume won 24-11, and Peter Agnew, Bryan Davies, Carl Frostick and John Powell won 41-8. The final score 65-19. Well done lads!

20th July - Buntingford's Men suffered another Quarter Final defeat in a County Competition after coming so close against Rosedale in the Eversley 3 Fours Club Championship Competition. The Bunty Boys won on 2 of the 3 rinks but just couldn't get over the line. Hard luck lads.

Resident Artist Stan Keen has been at it again. 3 more paintings produced and a great job done!

The Buntingford Bears can only look upwards in the League table.....

14th July - Peter Agnew and Mark Plume have made it through to the Quarter Finals of the EHBA Pairs. After 8 ends the match was 5-3 and very tight, but the Bunty Boys then stepped up a gear and scored 20 shots in the next 11 ends to win 25-9.

12th July - Tony Keeling subbing for Roger Evans, played with John Powell and they have reached the EHBA Pairs after a thumping victory against the Sele Farm pairing that defeated Carl Frostick and Scott Wake in a earlier round.

10th July - Buntingford's Men were pipped at the post in a very entertaining and highly competitive County Top Team Quarter Final clash with Harpenden.Mark Plume got the team off to a great start defeating National and County Under 25 Runner up Tom Muir 21-5 - and the other scores looked good across the board for the Bunty Boys. As the game drew to a close the match could have gone either way. Carl Frostick and Scott Wake secured a draw in the Pairs, and the Fours of Brian Bushell, Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew just fell away at the end. It was then all down to the triples. With the match all square Roger Evans, Tony Keeling and John Powell were holding 5 on the 17th end until the Harpenden Skip played with weight and got the shot. Down to the last end and with Buntingford holding game and the match, the Harpenden skip drew shot again and it was unfortunately all over. A great contest but a bitterly disappointing end for the Bunty Boys.

10th July - Great news that Beat Stone, Val Moules, Jenny Hawes and Dinah Geere have reached the Quarter-Finals of the EHWDBA Fours competition after a great victory against Erica Spence at Whit Hern. Well done to the Bunty Girls!

29th June - Buntingford's Ladies had a fine victory in their latest Monday Evening League match. Well done to the Bunty Girls.

23rd June - Rumour has it that there was a wrong bias bowled by one of our County Players......In fact bowled by the current County Unbadged Singles Champion. Well it's no rumour anymore...... AGGERS YOU PANCAKE!!!

18th June - Buntingford advanced to the quarter finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy with victory against Sawbridgeworth. Well done to Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake, Peter Agnew, Bryan Davies and John Powell.

17th June - Buntingford held their latest EHBL game and with one rink skipped by Bryan Davies finding themselves 2 down going into the last end, the odds were stacked against them in finding a victory. However with Dave Clifton and Greg Amos holding 1 after they had finished bowling, Bryan had a chance to draw shot with the very last bowl of the match to tie the game - but, oh no - he had other ideas...... I'm sure he stood on the mat thinking 'trick shot coming up here lads". And not content with just 1 wick, he played 2 wicks to trail the jack and pick up a 3 to win the game. 'That's how you do it'......Easy!

It was slightly easier for Roger Evans, Mark Plume (subbing for John Powell), Carl Frostick and Scott Wake in their EHBA Fours match as they comfortably won 32-5.

16th June - Peter Agnew and Mark Plume easily qualified for the 4th Round of the EHBA Pairs after a 21-3 victory at Hertford Castle, with their opponents conceding after 14 ends.

12th June - Buntingford's Men have qualified for the East Area Final of the County Club Championships. This is a 3 rink competition and puts Buntingford into the last 8 in Hertfordshire. This is the first time in the clubs history that they have reached this stage of the competition. Well done to all of the players after a thumping victory on a very, very heavy green at Hertford Castle. Well done lads!!

11th June - CONGRATULATIONS TO CARL FROSTICK, SCOTT WAKE AND MARK PLUME AS THEY HAVE REACHED THE HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY TRIPLES FINAL AND QUALIFIED FOR THE BOWLS ENGLAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LEAMINGTON SPA IN AUGUST!!!!

The lads had an excellent game in the Semi Final beating their Opponents from Harpenden 22-7. Carl led the triple excellently and always had woods in the head. Scott was awesome at Two and was on top form. Mark bowled the woods when needed and it was a fine victory.

Thank you to all of the supporters that came to watch and great to see our old team mate Andy iles making the trip to Hatfield to cheer on the lads.

This is the 3rd time each of the lads have reached the National Finals and they have now matched John Powell's club record.

We wish them every success in the National Finals.

10th June - Well done to Roger Evans, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake for coming through their EHBA Triples 2nd Round match in comfortable style after thumping their opponents from Bishop's Stortford.

9th June - Gwen Beale and Carl Frostick won by 4 shots in their EHBA Mixed Pairs match. Well done.

9th June - Buntingford Bears faced Buntingford Bulls in the EHBL and the match was very tight from the start - and the winners were of course........ Buntingford!

7th June - Our youngest member Jake Andrews entered his very first County Competition when he took part in the County Under 30 Singles championship. Buntingford have a great record in this competition and over the coming years Jake will carry the banner for the club. The really great news is that Jake won his first round match. Well played!!.

In his next round match he was drawn against a Middleton Cup player and last years Champion. Although the score didn't go Jake's way, this will be an invaluable experience for him and will set him up for the years to come. Well done Jake!

7th June - Buntingford's Men came unstuck against Bishop's Stortford in the National Two Fours competition. The rink skipped by Mark Plume got off to a poor start going behind 13-0 after just 4 ends, however the rink rallied to finish 19-18 at 18 ends. Unfortunately it was the reverse on the rink skipped by John Powell as they went ahead early on, but unfortunately fell behind and lost by a few....

5th June - Buntingford's Men triumphed over Townsend Bowls Club in The County Top Team competition. Mark Plume won his singles match, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake won the Pairs. Roger Evans, Bryan Davies and JohnPowell won the Triples and Stan Keen, Brian Bushell, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew went down on the last end by just 1 shot. Well done lads and the Quarter Final takes place on 10th July at Buntingford.

It was great to see our old friend and former member Bert Cherrington down the club this Friday. Great to see you, and look forward to the next time.

Joan Bushell, Debbie Marks, Roxy Clifton and Rosemary Webber had a great victory in their EHDWBA Fours clash at Whit Hern. Well done to the Bunty Girls.

4th June - Congratulations to Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume as they have reached the Semi Finals of the HB County Triples Competition with a 21-10 victory against Harpenden in the quarter finals at Harperbury Bowls Club. Thank you to the supporters that travelled to watch. The Semi Finals takes place at Hatfield Bowls Club on 11th June at 6pm with the winners advancing to the National Finals at Leamington in August. It will be great to see as many supporters from Buntingford cheering them on, please make every effort to come and watch.

2nd June - A brave effort saw Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume bow out at the Quarter Final stage of the HB County Fours competition. It was a shame that they were drawn against a home four in the 'Neutral green' stages at Royston and home advantage told on a very, very, very, very quick Royston green....

29th May - Graham Waite and Dinah Geere came 'oh so close' in their EHBA Mixed Pairs match. With the score tied at 21-21 after 21 ends, it came down to sudden death on the extra end, which unfortunately went against our Bunty Team. Great effort and hard luck.

Buntingford's Men came within a 'lucky wick' in beating Bishop's Stortford in the National Top Club Competition....... Mark Plume got the team off to a great start with a 21-4 victory in the Four Wood SinglesBryan Davies couldn't quite get the win in the Two Wood SinglesCarl Frostick and Scott Wake sneaked the pairs by 1 shot. Stan Keen, Mike Grimsdale, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew went down on the last end in the Fours leaving just the triples result to decide the match. The Bunty Boys of Roger Evans, Tony Keeling and John Powell were 4 shots up with 2 ends to play - then cue the first 'lucky wick' on the 17th end from Stortford to sneak a 2. And on the last end with Buntingford holding the match a tight bowl from the Stortford skip 'wicked' off and came shooting across the head to take out the Buntingford bowls and leave them with the 3 shots required to win........That's bowls for you......

23rd May - Latest Competition results:

Buntingford's Men came through a tight tussle against Baldock in the County Top Team competitionMark Plume got the team off to a great start with a 21-7 victory in a high quality Singles matchJohn Powell's excellent last bowl ensured victory in the triples by 2 shots with Roger and Bryan. Stan, Brian, Ken and Aggers picked up a 4 on their last end in the fours meaning that Burnsy & Wakey had to lose no more than 3 shots on their last end. Wakey obliged by drawing the shot and now the Bunty Boys are through to the Quarter Finals where thay have a home draw against Townsend. Well done lads.

A special mention to our supporters of Mike Grimsdale and Ellen & Greg Amos. They are our regular groupies and follow the team around home and away. Their support is much appreciated.

Stan Keen, Bryan Davies and Ken Mulqueen thumped their opponents in their County Triples Match and now face a 'Battle of Buntingford' against Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume after they did the same and thumped their opponents in their match. This will be a last 16 clash in the County and the battle take place next Thursday.

Mark Plume bowed out of the EHBA Singles - the first time he has ever entered this competition, after he was beaten 21-20. He won't be going in this competition again I suspect......

Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume came through a touch match in their County Fours game and now face a home draw in the last 16 of the County.

In the EHBA Triples first round it was last bowl John Powell again as he drew shot on the last end against another Buntingford triple skipped by Aggers,

Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume won the battle of Buntingford in their County Triples match against Roger Evans, Peter Agnew and John Powell 17-6.

Stan Keen, Bryan Davies and Ken Mulqueen had an easier path in their County Triples match as their opponents packed in after just 10 ends with the Bunty Boys leading by a cricket score. Well done lads.

It wasn't to be for Dave Clifton, Greg Amos and Mike Grimsdale as they came up against a strong Rosedale Triple.

Peter Agnew and Mark Plume got their EHBA Pairs off to a good start with a win over at Bishop's Stortford. With the pair leading 18-1 after 9 ends, their opponents played just a few more before calling it a day.

Some very sad news to report on the passing of Tom McDonagh.Tom was one of the nicest guys you could meet and will be sorely missed. Carl Frostick and Scott Wake won through their first round match in the EHBA Pairs.

14th September - Congratulations to Buntingford's Men as they have been crowned County League Champions 2014 after a fantastic final victory against Harpenden.

After a tough start to their Semi Final match against Baldock, the team pulled away to record a 12 shot victory. The rink of Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume recovered from 11-1 down to go ahead 13-12, and from then on the rink kept it tight going into the last few ends. Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen, Peter Agnew and John Powell were involved in a close match to begin with, and then just pulled away with some big scoring ends to trounce their opponents.

The Final was a role reversal of the two rinks from their semi final match with again  one rink keeping it tight with the other outscoring their opponents Harpenden, An excellent final with Buntingford victorious by 8 shots overall.

The County League Championship topped off a great season by the men and was a fitting end and thoroughly deserved. WELL DONE LADS!!

7th September - A HAT-TRICK for the Bunty Boys on EHBA Finals Day!!

Mark Plume started the day off with a great victory in the EHBA Champion of Champions Final with a 21-14 win. This is Mark's 3rd victory in this competition in 3 different decades. Wins in 1995, 2004 and now in 2014.

Buntingford's Men then completed an 8 shot victory in the Thurgood cup. This is history for the club as this is the first time that they have won this prestigious competition. Well done to the Bunty Boys team of Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake, Mark Plume; Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen, Peter Agnew and John Powell.

And to round the day off the Bunty Boys of Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and John Powell won the EHBA Fours with a victory on the last end of the match.

6th September - A successful Club Finals Day

Scott Wake and Debbie Marks triumphed in the Singles Championships. This was Debbie's first victory and Scott's 4th.

Dinah Geere won her 4th Ladies Handicap Singles in a row and set a new club record in the process. Mark Plume appearing in his 4th Handicap Singles Final in a row, came second for the 3rd consecutive year after Peter Agnew took victory to win his first major singles title at the club.

31st August - BUNTINGFORD ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! Congratulations to Buntingford's Men as they have won the East Area League Cup. This now puts them into the Semi Finals of the County. 28th August - Buntingford Bulls in the East Herts Bowls League have broken all records. A fantastic 70 shots to 14 win against Stevenage Whites earns them a place in Buntingford's history books. The winning players were Bryan Davies, Tony Duffin and Charles Oats who won 35-5, and John Collins, Greg Amos and Rick Brown won 35-9. Well done lads.

 - So we're back from the Bowls England National Championships at Leamington and what a fantastic experience it was for the Bunty Boys of Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen, Peter Agnew and John Powell. Playing either side of them on the green they were sandwiched between former World Singles Champion Andy Thomson and his four from Kent, and World Number 3 Nicky Brett and his four from Huntingdonshire. It couldn't of got any better for them! The lads battled well in their first round match and came within touching distance of their opponents at 14-11 down, but just couldn't nudge in front. They took their Cumbrian opponents to the 20th end before shaking hands. Well done lads and thanks to all of the supporters from Buntingford that made the effort to travel up and see them play.

 - Commiserations to the Bunty girls after they fell at the Semi Final stage of the EHDWBA Fours. A great run in the competition and well done to Chris Hatley, Val Moules, Rosemary Webber and Dinah Geere.

We're off to Leamington this week to support our lads in the National Fours competition. All the best to Bryan Davies, Ken Mulqueen, Peter Agnew and John Powell.

 - Buntingford's Ladies have missed out on a place in the East Area Cup Final by just 1 point. The Ladies needed Bishop's Stortford to lose their last game in order to qualify but unfortunately they got the result they needed to finish above Buntingford in their group. Great effort this year Bunty Girls!

 - Unfortunately Carl Frostick and Scott Wake were beaten in their Semi Final match of the EHBA Pairs. The match was played on a Neutral green that played heavy and their opponents just got the better of them. Hard luck lads and well done for reaching this far in the competition.

 - Buntingford's Men have reached the Final of the East Area Cup. After going into the final game at Bishop's Stortford they just needed to avoid defeat to qualify and came through by 3 shots.  - The Bunty Girls still have a chance to qualify for their East Area Cup Final after a great fightback against Bishop's Stortford. 8-0 down and they dug in and pegged back to nudge in front, then fall behind and then a 4 on the 20th end gave them the advantage. The Bunty Girls top their group with other results still to come in - fingers crossed!

Courtesy of John Stone: One morning three ladies are playing a game when a man suddenly runs by wearing nothing but a bag over his head. As he passes the first lady she looks down and carefully says "well, he's certainly not my husband". As he passes the second lady, she also looks down and carefully says "he's not my husband either". The man then runs past the third lady and she carefully looks down and says "wait a minute - he's not even a member of this bowling club"........

27th September - A great finish to the outdoor season with the annual 'Captain v Captain' match. Some interesting results across the rinks but the main thing was that the members survived the cooking served up by the Bunty Boys Catering Company......

21st September - Garston Bowls Club held their Open Triples Tournament with invited players from the club and surrounding Counties. A highly competitive field was assembled and the Buntingford trio of Carl Frostick, Scott Wake and Mark Plume battled their way to the Final and with it won £150. After being beaten in a very close first game it looked like it was going to be an early exit for the lads, but a thumping win in their second game and a win in their 3rd game was enough to see them finish second in their group and progress to the Semi Finals. A win against the favourites then saw them reach the final where they were unfortunately narrowly beaten on the last end.

1st September - Finals misery for Buntingford's Men
Buntingford's Men missed out on a record 7th HB East Area League Cup Final Win after a 2 shot defeat against Whit Hern. Buntingford led early on, but towards the latter stages trailed by 14 shots with just 4 ends to play across the two rinks.  The lads rallied and needed just 3 on the last end but despite a valiant effort fell agonisingly short by just 2 shots. A win by 10 shots on one rink, but a defeat by 12 shots on the other. The team was: Stan Keen, Peter Agnew, Scott Wake Carl Frostick; Roger Evans, Ken Mulqueen, John Powell and Marl Plume. Reserves were Bryan Davies and Eddie Plume.
The afternoon didn't fair much better for the men as they lost out in a tight EHBA Lyndhurst Final. The 'luck' gods were against the team from the start and they went into the last end across both rinks behind by 3 shots. It wasn't to be and the team finished Runners Up for the second year in succession. The team was:
Roger Evans, John Powell, Mark Plume: Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake.

31st August - Congratulations to Buntingford Bears as they finished in 3rd place in East Herts Bowls League Division Three. Well done to everyone that represented the team. The Buntingford Bull finished in eleventh place.

Worthing 2013 - CEST FINI......

Worthing have hosted the Bowls England National Championships for the last 40 years, but this will now be the last year the Championships will be held at Worthing as they move to Leamington Spa from 2014.
Worthing was the place the top players aspired to get to. Qualification for 'Worthing' would mean you had reached the Final of your County Championships, or qualified via a number of qualifying rounds in a National Competition - Mixed Fours, Mixed Pairs, Club Two Fours etc.
Buntingford were represented 3 times during that period - Mark Plume, John Powell and Scott Wake first played in 2007 and reached the last 32 of the Country in the National Triples Championships. In 2008
Carl Frostick, John Powell, Mark Plume and Scott Wake qualified in the Fours Championships where John Powell was unfortunately unable to play due to ill health, and Roger Evans took his place. A run to the last 32 in the Country was a great success. And in this year 2013, Carl Frostick represented Buntingford in the National Mixed Fours Championships and reached the last 16 of the Country.
The whole of Buntingford Bowls Club should feel very proud that they were represented in such a high level of competition over the last few seasons.

Over the years thousands of players from all over the Country have qualified to play in the National Championships at Worthing. Thousands of players have also tried - but have never quite made it. And there are unfortunately thousands of Bowls club members from all over the Country that just don't understand what it is all about or realy care - which is very sad indeed.......
For those that did make every effort to understand the level of competition required to reach the National Championships. For those that made every effort to travel down to watch the Buntingford Players and their matches at Worthing. And for those that qualified to represent Buntingford and play in the National Championships at Worthing - you would have had a magical experience ............
So, Worthing - thanks for the memories, you did great......

20th August - The stands were filled and the crowd waited in anticipation for Carl Frostick representing Buntingford Bowls Club in the Bowls England National Mixed Fours Championships at Worthing to step on the green. Making up the team were Becky Maynard from Welwyn Garden City, Heather Stapleford from Royston and former Buntingford member Matthew Coppen now playing at Royston. It was a tough draw in their last 16 match playing against a rink that included the Ladies top-ranked player Ellen Faulkner, and Nicky Brett who is ranked in the top 10 male players in the world. The team got off to a slow start and unfortunately never really recovered. 8-0 down after 3 ends with opposing skip Nicky Brett ruling the roost. The team did get back into it, pegged away and played some good bowls. The game got closer but after the 20th end they shook hands at 16-27. Well done everybody. The team that beat them won the National Final but their opponents never got closer on the scoreboard than our team did. A proud moment for Buntingford and thank you to those that made the trip from the club to show their support for our 'Burnsy' - Jenny Hawes, Eddie Plume, Scott Wake, Roger Evans and Mark Plume.

20th August - 'Semi-Finalitus' struck Buntingford again as Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew lost by just 1 shot in their EHBA Triples Match. A great run in the competition - hard luck lads.

16th August - Ware failed to beat Hertford Castle by 46 shots in their last County League match . This means that
BUNTINGFORD'S MEN have now reached the EAST AREA LEAGUE CUP FINAL - CONGRATULATIONS LADS. This will be the 4th year in a row Buntingford have reached the Final. The Final will be played at 9.30am on Sunday 1st September at Allenbury's Bowls Club. Your support will be much appreciated.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CARL FROSTICK FOR MAKING IT THROUGH TO THE BOWLS ENGLAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Playing in the National Mixed Fours competition they came through by a huge margin to book their place at Worthing in August. Playing with, and Congratulations to former club member Matt Coppen, Royston member Heather Stapleford and WGC Member Becky Maynard.

Forthcoming match to watch out for....
Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew will play in the EHBA Triples Semi Finals on 20th August. Venue TBC.

8th August - Buntingford's Men can do no more now than wait for the Ware v Hertford Castle result to come in..... The Bunty Boys have won all 4 games in their County League group and can only be overtaken, and miss out on a place in the East Area Final, if Ware beat Hertford Castle on both rinks and by 45 shots. Their last victory came with a 1 shot win over Bishop's Stortford. One rink went down by 14, and the other winning by 15.

5th August - Buntingford's Men have reached the final of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy after victory over Allenbury's. On a night where the weather was wet, wet, wet.... The home team of Roger Evans, John Powell and Mark Plume went down by 3 shots, but the away team of Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake triumphed by 11 shots. Well done lads.

3rd August - Hertfordshire have won the Eastern Counties League!!
Hertfordshire beat Bedfordshire 18 points to 4 and topped the table after their 6 matches - and remained unbeaten by winning all of their 6 matches. Counties taking part were Norfolk, Bedfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex. This is the first time Hertfordshire have won the League since 1997. Representing Buntingford throughout the matches were Roger Evans, Carl Frostick and Mark Plume. Well done to those players involved. You were part of a winning team...........

31st July - Buntingford's Men recorded a record breaking victory in the County League with a 66-15 win over Hertford Castle. Roger Evans, Ken Mulqueen, John Powell and Mark Plume won 32-7. Stan Keen, Peter Agnew, Scott Wake and Carl Frostick won 34-8. The win keeps the men firmly at the top of their group with 1 match to play.

31st July - The
Ladies couldn't match the result from their first County League match as they were beaten by Hertford Castle.

30th July -
Buntingford's Men suffered from 'Semi Final-itus' with Mark Plume being beaten in the Semi Finals of the EHBA Champions of Champions, and Roger Evans, John Powell, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake beaten in the EHBA Fours Semi Finals.
Mark fought back from 18-5 behind to go down 21-18, and the Fours were 20-12 up - and fell to a 27-12 defeat. Unlucky lads.
It is the second year in succession that Mark has been defeated at the semi final stage of the EHBA Champion of Champions AND the second year in succession that the lads have been beaten in the EHBA Fours at the Semi Final stage.....

28th July -
Buntingford recorded a double over Sawbridgeworth with the Men winning their County League match, and the Ladies playing in their first ever match, winning on their rink. Well done all.

27th July - Congratulations to Buntingford Club President Mary Smith for a fantastic Presidents Day. Great Food, Great company and a lot of drink.......

The
Buntingford Bears remain in 3rd place in the EHBL Division 3 League Table with just 5 games to go. The Buntingford Bulls are just 1 spot off the bottom of the table.

26th July - Carl Frostick and Mark Plume played in the Annual 'Blobby Challenge' at Garston Bowls Club. This is a 'Top Club' clash with the current County Under 30's team taking on the 'Over 30's select team'. Having never beaten the 'Over 30's team in all of the years this game has taken place, Carl Frostick captained the young side. It came down to very the last bowl of the match and sure enough - the Under 30's team won for the very first time!

25th July - Buntingford's Men got off to a winning start in their first County League match with a 4 points to 2 win against Ware. Well done lads.

23rd July - Carl Frostick's run to the EHBA Singles came unstuck at the Quarter Finals stage at Rosedale. The green at Rosedale has been very poor this year and this didn't make for a great game. Hard luck 'Burnsy', but a great run never the less.

19th July - Congratulations to Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen and Peter Agnew after they strolled into the Semi Finals of the EHBA Triples with victory over Don Fox from Bishop's Stortford. Well done lads.

19th July - Reigning Champion Carl Frostick was beaten at the semi final stage this year in the County Under 30 Singles. We won't talk about the score but well done for getting this far.

18th July - Carl Frostick was pipped at the post in the Semi Finals of the County Singles. Recovering from a slow start 'Burnsy' found himself 10-1 behind, but he rallied and got within 2 shots at 13-11 down. Nip and tuck from then on in, but it wasn't to be Carl's day. Hard luck, but well done for reaching this far. Thank you also to the 'few' supporters that made the effort to go along and support.

17th July - Carl Frostick and Scott Wake were beaten by just 1 shot in their 'last 16' match in the EHBA Four Wood Pairs competition.

4th July -
Buntingford's Men have won through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy afer a 14 shot victory over Northaw & Cuffley. Stan Keen, John Powell and Scott Wake drew 16-16, Roger Evans, Peter Agnew and Mark Plume won 26-12.

27th June - Carl Frostick and Scott Wake have progressed to the 4th round of the EHBA Pairs competition with a thumping 25-9 victory over Mick Milne and Alan Gibbs from Hertford Castle. Well done lads.

24th June -
Carl Frostick is just 2 games away from competing in the National Championships at Worthing. Playing in the Mixed Fours Carl plays three to Junior England International Matt Coppen. The front 2 are Heather Stapleford from Royston, and Becky Maynard from Welwyn Garden City. Their latest victory was a very close affair. A win by just 12 shots to 11 has to be the closet game I am aware of in a 21 end match. Great stuff Carl and we wish you all the best for the next round.

24th June - Buntingford's Men were agonisingly close to pulling off a win against Ware in the EHBA Thurgood Cup. Needing 6 shots to win over the last 2 ends. it looked like the impossible was possible. The rink of Roger Evans, Len Purdy, John Powell and Mark Plume won a 3 on the 20th end, and then Mark Plume converted the head to hold 3 shots with his last wood meaning Buntingford held the match with 1 wood to come from the opposing skip. A slightly fortunate wood came up the green to plop into the head and this gained second wood and won the game for Ware.

22nd June - Hertfordshire's Middleton Cup campaign came to a thrilling end with a 17 points to 5 victory over Essex. The win now puts Hertfordshire top of their group and now must hope other group games go their way in order for them to progress to the Quarter Finals stage. Hertfordshire finished their group with 3 wins out of 4 games which is an excellent record. There is a chance Hertfordshire could progress so fingers crossed.......
Mark Plume carved out a draw of 20-20 on his rink, and Carl Frostick finished 2 shots in front on his rink thanks to a fantastic last wood by Skip Martin Coles.

19th June - Peter Agnew and John Powell bowed out of the County Pairs after a narrow loss in the 4th round. A great run in the competition to get this far.

18th June - The lastest EHBL Division Three table puts the
Buntingford Bears in 3rd Place. The Buntingford Bulls are just 1 place off the bottom.....

18th June - Two of
Buntingford's Mens Triples have made it through to the Neutral Green stages (last 16) of the County Triples. Roger Evans, Peter Agnew & John Powell came through a tight match, and Carl Frostick, Mark Plume & Scott Wake won through by 5 shots at Bishop's Stortford. Well done to both triples.

17th June -
Roger Evans, Carl Frostick, Mark Plume and Scott Wake have won through to the Neutral Green stages (last 16) of the County Fours. After racing into a 19-6 lead, the lads were pegged back but managed to secure a victory. Thanks Roxy for a great meal after the game.

16th June - Buntingford's men marched into the Hertfordshire Area Final of the National Two Fours competition with a thumping win over Roebuck 55-19. Roebuck are regarded as one of the best teams in the County but they were no match for the Bunty boys. Congratulations to the team; Stan Keen, Peter Agnew, Carl Frostick, Scott Wake, Roger Evans, Eddie Plume, John Powell and Mark Plume.

16th June - Many congratulations to Carl Frostick for reaching the Semi-Finals of the Hertfordshire Under 30 Singles for the 4th year in succession. Carl is the reigning champion and we wish him well for his semi-final in July.

15th June - Congratulations to Carl Frostick for making his debut in the Hetfordshire Middleton Cup match against Cambridgeshire. Carl joined the records books as only the 4th player from Buntingford to play at the highest level. Hertfordshire won the match and Carl, playing two on his rink went down by 4. Mark Plume playing two on his rink won by 9 shots.

14th June - Congratulations to Peter Agnew as he has won through to the Neutral green stages (Last 16) of the County Unbadged Singles.

14th June - Congratulations to Buntingford's Men as they overcame Hertford in their 1st round EHBA Lyndhurst Trophy match by 20 shots.

13th June - Congratulations to Carl Frostick for reaching the Neutral Green (Last 16) stages of the County Singles with a hard fought 21-17 win. Mark Plume fell at this hurdle with a last wood defeat.

12th June -
Roger Evans and Mark Plume went out of the County Pairs in a very close match. Peter Agnew and John Powell defeated Carl Frostick and Scott Wake in their match thanks largely to a 6 on the 19th end.

11th June -
Carl Frostick, Mark Plume and Scott Wake have made it through to the 3rd round of the County Triples. Joining them in the next round will be Roger Evans, Peter Agnew and John Powell.

4th June - Roger Evans, Peter Agnew and John Powell comfortably won their County Triples 2nd Round match. Carl Frostick, Mark Plume & Scott Wake scrapped through by 1 shot in their County Triples match.

It was good to see our old friend and past member,

It is with sad news to announce another loss to Buntingford Bowls Club with the passing of Bryan Renney. 31st March -
Tony_Tibble_2It is with sadness to announce the passing of Tony Tibble. Whilst on a walking holiday with his family Tony passed away suddenly. Tony spent a lot of time at the Bowls Club looking after the clubs finances until the end of last season and he will be missed. He was a likeable man and very friendly to all that met him. Our thoughts are with Liz and family.

24th March -
Buntingford braved the weather conditions to travel to Bedford Borough with a full squad. Signs were good at the start of the match as the scoreboard read 31-31 across the 6 rinks. Unfortunately it didnt stay that way but a fun filled afternoon it turned out to be. Check out the 'Fun Photos' and see some of the Skips that represented the Club - You might recognise 1 or 2 of the names......

23rd March - Check out the Hertfordshire Bowls Association Website as the County draws have now been made

9th March - EHBA and EHBL competitions have been drawn. Interesting 1st round match in the EHBA Fours - Roger Evans, Carl Frostick. John Powell and Scott Wake have been drawn to play against our newest member Peter Agnew and his four. A shame that 2 Fours from the same club have been drawn against each other.

YOUR SUBS ARE NOW OVERDUE IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID THEM AND WISH TO PLAY FOR BUNTINGFORD THIS SEASON - BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE........... Speak to Eddie Plume as soon as you can.

A fond farewell to
Sue and Barry Gravett who have decided to take a break from bowls and not sign on this season. Sandy Cambell has also decided not to renew her membership. We wish them all well for the future.

Evidence that Buntingford did lead in an indoor match - once...........

16th February - Buntingford travelled to Tye Green for an indoor fixture and nearly broke all of the records in the clubs history..... After taking an 18 shot lead across the 6 rinks at the tea break, it looked like a victory could be on the cards - a first ever indoor victory could be on the cards......But no, our hopes were dashed in the second half. None the less though the overall result left us within 15 shots at the end of the match.
A welcome to
Peter Agnew playing his first game for Buntingford. His rink had a close game until the last few ends..... A 'hotshot' was called against Len Purdy's rink, and there were wins for the rinks skipped by John Powell and Mark Plume.

A fond farewell to Jean and Paul Fitz-Gibbon as they have decided to play their bowls at Allenbury's this coming season. And to Paul Booth who is taking a break due to work committments.

We wish Ted Gibbs well after recent surgery. We hope to see you around the club all fit and well soon.

10th February - Please support the club functions in February and March. Your support at these events would be much appreciated.

30th December - Bill_Moules_2It is with sad news to announce the passing of Bill Moules on Saturday 29th December. Bill fought illness for a number of years and had won every time, but now he has gone to the great big bowling green in the sky. Bill was the club Chairman in his time at the club and ran the EHBL for a number of years aswell. Bill played in 12 Club Finals, winning 5 of them and will be missed around the club. Bill was an officer and a gentleman. Thoughts go to his wife Val, and his family

24th November - Unfortunately Buntingford could not match the result that had the previous week when they played at Cheshunt Indoor. With only 1 winning rink this time (John Powell) Buntingford were well and truly beaten. There was one result that meant one rink in particular took a right hammering - the 'Webmaster' will keep the players on that rink to himself............ (ok then, Mark Plume was the skip.....)

Potters Trip - A group of 21 members plus Peter (friend of the Fitz's) went to Potters Resort recently and had a great time.
The results were varied but everyone enjoyed the games with the Cheeseman/Geere combo almost making the knockout stages, missing out on shot difference of 1, having won 3 of their 4 games.
We took part in most of the activities including air pistol shooting, segway riding, swimming, table tennis, archery, bingo and quizzing.
Thanks go to Ted and Grace Gibbs for organising the trip.

24th November - Many of the menu pages have now been updated - please have a look.......

17th November - Buntingford travelled to Riverain with a bumper 7 rinks for this indoor game, and I think this was one of Buintingford's best performances indoor in many a year! Winning on 3 rinks and getting beaten on another by just 3 shots showed a great effort BY the team. The winning skips were Dinah Geere, Grace Gibbs and Mark Plume - just a shame that the President and Captain couldnt get closer in their games - or get into double figures!!

12th November -
Lots of information added - Photo's, History, Records, Club Finals Listings - please feel free to browse all of the pages.

Don't forget down the club on Friday 12th October for entering your County and East Herts competitions for 2013.

6th October -
Buntingford held their Presentation evening and again it was a huge success. The club was joined by the Hertfordshire Bowls County President John Thompson and his good lady Diane, and everyone was fed well and of course have the odd glass or two......Roger Evans was voted the Club Personality of the year and Bryan Davies joined us via Conference Call to collect the coverted Williams Singles Trophy. Later in the evening 'Slippery Fingers Hicks' and 'Butter thumbs Grimsdale' decided to pack away Bryan's glass trophy for safe keeping, only for it to fall to the floor and break into 4 pieces - aptly 1 piece for each year Bryan has appeared in the Williams Singles final!  But sssshhhhh.... Bryan doesn't know yet, so please don't tell him......

24th September  - The Ladies have won the Newman Cup by beating Standon & Puckeridge. After being 13 shots down after the 1st leg, the ladies raced to a 27-4 lead after 10 ends of the second leg - and then Standon & Puckeridge promptly conceded! The winning team was Grace Gibbs, Joan Branagan, Mary Smith & Beat Stone. Well done Ladies.

16th September -
It wasn't to be for the Bunty Boys today as they were defeated by the National Champions Garston in their County League Semi Final. After winning the East Area Cup for a record 3rd time in a row, Buntingford were drawn against the National Champions Garston on their home green. The rink skipped by Mark Plume managed a draw against Martin Coles. Unfortunately the rink skipped by Scott Wake went down by 17 shots. A great achievement to get this far and to be ranked as one of the top 4 teams in Hertfordshire is something to be very proud of. The full team was - Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell, Mark Plume; Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake
.

by just 2 shots at Worthing to Northumberland, the eventual winners.

17th August -
Buntingford Men have qualified for the HBA East Area Cup Final after topping their group in the County League. Hertford Castle could only manage a 4 points to 2 victory against Havers Park in their last game meaning our boys qualified by 1 point. The final is at 10am at Havers Park Sunday 2nd September. PLEASE COME ALONG AND SUPPORT YOUR CLUB IN THIS HIGH PROFILE COMPETITION.

11th August -
Mark Plume was beaten 21-16 in the EHBA Champion of Champions Semi-Finals. Playing at a neutral venue in Hertford, it was a tricky green and the match was close throughout but Ron Powell, who was excellently supported by his home club Rosedale, pipped Mark at the end.

9th August -
Buntingford's Men now have an outside chance of reaching the East Area Cup Final after a 4 points to 2 defeat against Bishop's Stortford. The rink of Stan Keen, Len Purdy, Ken Mulqueen and Carl Frostick did well to keep the score down to just 9 shots playing their strongest rink. The rink of Roger Evans, Phil Geere, John Powell and Mark Plume won by 5 shots on their rink but it wasnt enough to claim victory. Buntingford still top their group but now have to rely on Hertford Castle either getting 5 points against Havers Park, or winning 6-0 with a smaller shot difference than 14 shots for Buntingford to qualify. Of course Havers Park could do us a favour by winning - unlikely but you never know............

Buntingford's Ladies have qualified for the Semi Finals of the EHDWBA with a 2-1 win. Well done Ladies.

The points score of 4-2 kept Buntigford at the top of the table with 1 game to play. A win against Bishop's Stortford in the last game will see the lads through to the East Area Cup Final.

Congratulations to
Eddie Plume and his Presidents day. With the help of everyone on the day the club raised a grand total of £616.16 for the Herts Air Ambulance. Thank you everybody.

29th July -
Carl Frostick has been crowned Hertfordshire County Under 30 Singles Champion after a hard fought victory. He came back from 7-0 down and 11-3 down to edge in front for the first time at 19-18. A two on the next end secured victory and queue the celebrations. Well done Carl - a fantastic achievement.

28th July - Eddie Plume put on a tremendous afternoon for his Presidents Day. His genorosity was second to none and everybody enjoyed the fantastic occasion.

Carl Frostick will be playing his County Under 30 Singles Final at 1.30pm at Welwyn & District Bowls Club on Sunday 29th July. Please come along and support your club member. This is a fantastic achievement to reach a County Final and he deserves the clubs support.

25th July - Buntingford's Men got their County League campaign underway with a thumping 42 shot victory over Havers Park. Stan Keen, Ken Mulqueen, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake won 27-14, and Roger Evans, Bryan Davies, John Powell and Mark Plume won 37-8.

13th July - Mark Plume has won through to the Semi Finals of the EHBA Champion of Champions with a win against Ray Barwick at Northaw & Cuffley. The score finished 21-14, and it didn't rain which was an added bonus!

12th July - Buntingford's Men fell at the quarter final stage of the EHBA Thurgood Cup with defeat at Rosedale. The heavens opened all game and it wasnt great conditions to bowl in. That said, after 10 ends the rink skipped by Scott Wake led 10-8, and the rink skipped by Mark Plume led 16-1. It has been said before but it can be a 'game of 2 halves' - and it was! Never mind there is always next year.....

11th July - Carl Frostick and Scott Wake gained revenge over Roger Evans and John Powell with victory on the last end of their EHBA Pairs match. Carl & Scott led by 1 going into the last end, and were 1 down with last bowl to come. With Carl begging Wakey to accept the 1 down to take the game into an extra end, Scott had other ideas. I think he managed 3 wicks before he fell onto the Jack and won the game!

29th April - The
new season kicked off with a friendly game away at Sawbridgeworth. In lovely hot sunny conditions with the temperature in the 80's it was a great way to the start the campaign - well that's what we would have liked except it was a grey, dull, cold day with showers of rain that bought the game to an early close before the match had reached 21 ends across the board. Enjoyable none the less with the green running quite freely given the downpours over the last few weeks and I believe Buntingford started the season with a win.......

Eddie Plume and his Coaching sessions that we've all benefited from...

Our Friendly matches have been just that - 'friendly'. With 5 results still to come in, the Club won 9 matches and came second in 31, with four cancelled by the opposition (maybe they were too scared to play us). It has definitely been a case of 'it's the taking part that counts'.........

18th September - After winning the HBA East Area Cup,
Buntingford's Men were beaten by just 1 shot in the Semi Finals of the HBA County League Play Offs at Garston. Buntingford were drawn to play against 7 times Champions Roebuck Bowls Club who bought a very strong team with them containing 6 current, or previous HBA Middleton Cup Players.
In a hard fought match it came down to the very last end across the two rinks when the result was decided by a fortunate 'wick' with Roebuck's last bowl coming in for shot. It was a disappointing end to a great match for Buntingford, but another great achievement to reach this stage of the competition. The Team was -
Roger Evans, John Hicks, John Powell, Mark Plume, John Stone, Ken Mulqueen, Carl Frostick and Scott Wake.

15th September - Commiserations to
Buntingford's Ladies as they were beaten in the Final of the EHDWBA Anniversary (Top Six) competition. The Ladies became the first ever team from Buntingford to reach an External Competition Final and deserve every credit for reaching the Final. The squad was Dinah Geere, Jenny Hawes, Val Moules, Mary Smith, Beat Stone, Rosemary Webber, Joan Branagan, Grace Gibbs and Kath Thrower.

15th September - Commiserations to Dinah Geere as she was beaten in the Final of the EHDWBA. Dinah created history by becoming only the second female player from Buntingford to reach an external competition Final. A tremendous acheivement to reach this stage of the competition.

12th September - Good Luck to our
Ladies on EHDWBA Finals Day. Visitors welcome so please come along to support your club.

4th September -

BUNTINGFORD ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Buntingford's Men have WON the East Area League Cup with a 9 shot victory against Hoddesdon & Rye Park. Buntingford were running away with it at the beginning with the rink skipped by Scott Wake taking a 10-0 lead, and the rink skipped by Mark Plume taking an 18-5 lead. Buntingford were then pegged back as the score reduced to just three shots over the two rinks towards the end of the match but they kicked on to record an excellent victory. This is now a record 5th victory in this competition and they now take their place in the HBA semi Finals against Roebuck on Sunday 18th September. The winning squad was - Carl Frostick, Eddie Plume, John Hicks, John Powell, John Stone, Ken Mulqueen, Mark Plume, Roger Evans, Scott Wake.

Thank you to the supports that bbbbraved the weather - Jenny, Rosemary, Beat, Denise, Mike Grimsdale, and it was nice to see former member Andy Iles turn up to support with his twin daughters.

3rd September -

19th September -
Buntingford's fine run to the County League Finals ended with a valiant defeat against Garston.
Playing arguably the best team in Hertfordshire and on their home green, Buntingford were beaten at the Semi Final stage of the HBA County League.
It was a highly competetive match and at one stage Buntingford were within 3 shots of the hosts but just came up short in the end.

Tom McDonagh made his debut in a competetive match for Buntingford and he couldnt have made it in a more high profile game. The team deserve every credit for reaching this stage of the competition.

7th September - Unfortunately Jenny Hawes & Dinah Geere were beaten in the Semi Finals of the EHDWBA Pairs. A fantastic acheivement for the Buntingford Pair to reach that stage of the competition, and this equals the furthest any Ladies Pair from Buntingford have progressed in an External Competition. The last Pair being Beat Stone & Val Moules back in 2008.

5th September -
BUNTINGFORD ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!
Buntingford's men win the HBA East Area Cup after a 1 shot win against Ware. With Buntingford 7 shots behind with 4 ends to play, Scott Wake's rink picked up a 5 on the 20th end and Mark Plume's rink picked up a single shot. This meant that Buntingford then went into the 21st end 1 shot behind. Both rinks then picked up a single and that was enough to see Buntingford victorious and through to the HBA County League Finals.

This match saw Mark Plume win his 50th Competetive title. It also saw Scott Wake's playing in his 50th competetive final.

5th September -
Roger Evans finishes as Runner up in the East Herts Bowls Association Officers Singles Final. Roger led 20-13 before being pipped at the post 21-20.
Roger Evans & Mark Plume finish Runners Up in the East Herts Two Wood Pairs Final for the second year in a row after being beaten 11-16. The opposition brought in a sub to replace the lead just before the start of the game. They replaced the '82 year old' lead, with an ex Middlesex County Player - and he proved to be the difference............

After a sprited fightback from 15-7 down, Carl led 17-16 and whilst holding 2 shots to move 19-16 in front with his opponent having one bowl to come, a fortunate 'fire' came off and he dropped a three to fall 19-17 behind. His opponent then picked up the 2 shots needed for victory on the next end. A great game and an unlucky result.

(2 points for each winning rink & 10 points for overall match score). Herts duly won by 16 points to 6 and by 11 shots, but that was not enough as Northamptonshire won their match 22-0 against Leicestershire and advanced to the Quarter Finals. 20th June - Buntingford were entertained by Trumpington Bowls club when their Friendly match was split into 2 halves. The first half was played with normal rules, but the second half was played under 'roving cot rules'. Basically where ever the Lead throws the Jack, it stays and everyone bowls to it.
